As soon as I heard that the Boston Museum of Fine Arts had an entire exhibit dedicated to Monet, specifically displaying paintings I've done master studies of, I knew I had to go.
(also sorry if the voiceover audio is funky, I'm working on it!)
In this vlog we visit Boston, see loads of Monet paintings and a bunch of other fascinating art, and work in my sketchbook! I'm finally done with this Strathmore watercolor sketchbook, so the next video you'll see from me will be a sketchbook tour.
We also chat about how to find the motivation to keep going when your art career isn't growing fast enough, so if you're feeling down or unmotivated, hopefully this will inspire you to keep at it. Building a creative career is hard work, but it's possible.

“Holy Shit” is right, Kelsey! Congratulations on your growth and the fact that you’re already exceeding your March goal, aren’t you? I think you’d said in another video, that you were hoping to reach 8K YT Subscribers by the end of March, 2022, and you’re closer to 10K now, on March 15th! You’ve inspired me with your planning and strategies. I’m learning so much from what you’ve been able to share of your process, etc. I enjoy art, but I’m not a painter (yet). I did, however feel inspired by your art, too, and as you were setting up your NY art space, I decided to make myself a space for art and writing too. Plus, I downloaded Notion (OMG! Overwhelming potential there! I love it!), and I’m checking out some art supplies, based on some of your recommendations. I gain a lot of value from your channel. Keep up the good work! :-)

I remember seeing a Monet exhibition a few years back - it was amazing to see his pieces in real life! I don't remember ever seeing the black and white footage of him though, so that was really cool to see in your vlog ☺️ Loved listening to you talk about how important it is to treat the videos you make like an investment, that's what I always try and remind myself when one of my videos doesn't do as well as I had hoped - you just never know if KZbin will pick it up in the future. Congrats on the 8k subscribers ✨😁

I found it absolutely insane that his life & Sargent’s overlapped with the beginning of the modern era, things like the beginning of cinema, etc. Somehow I guess I just don’t think of those two things as existing in the same time hehe 😅

Ok, I feel like I have a lot to say about this, so ima try and condense it down😅To whoever is commenting that “you’re not a *real* artist because you don’t sell your work”? That’s the biggest line of bullshit I’ve ever heard. Selling is just being in retail. Making art is what makes one an artist. So they can go eat a box of….cheap waxy crayons, let’s say. Also, you are so badass for having left a field that was breaking your heart and draining your soul to explore work that feeds your spirit, and honey I cannot think of a greater or more daring move. I know your future self will thank you for following your intuition. Truly. I wish I could’ve followed my passion in my early twenties instead of waiting til my mid thirties to finally give it a go (and now in my 40s just starting to thrive)And lastly, thanks for addressing the “newb-tubers” like me, who actually already have an art career but just started a channel a few months ago and wonder if it’s even worth it. I do it for fun, but also, I figure that when I dive into the more “how I wholesale my art” and “how I make a living as a full time artist” type content it’ll be of use to others just starting out.

those videos will absolutely take off, you're right! Value based content is definitely where I get most of my views and traffic, and waiting to figure out how to make good content before making that transition is a very smart move. I really appreciate the encouragement Debbie, it's such a scary but at the same time exhilarating time right now in my life. I think you've definitely got what it takes to succeed on this platform, the sheer force of will to do it and improve will take you far. Absolutely rooting for you

we have to make bad videos to learn what works for us and also looks good 😀 bugs me when people tell someone isnt an artist if they dont sell art, nope, you dont need to see art to be an artist

I enjoyed this video and I love your art. It is interesting though how often I see advice like this, like from Wheezywaiter. He said he made videos every day for a year before it took off, as if that was good "don't give up advice." I know people who have been making KZbin videos for over a decade with no traction. Sometimes things just don't work and you have to cut the cord. There's a magic luck sweet spot you have to hit, and if you don't hit it, you just don't. True for art as well. But I'm not saying this video doesn't account for that, I'm just saying that's an unfortunate reality of the creative world. My supplemental advice would be if it doesn't work, overhaul your format or try another medium I guess? Dunno. Keep up the great work! Love this channel.

I definitely agree with your thoughts here-- sometimes it doesn't work out for people and there's no shame in that, but I also think it's good to be able to look at yourself super honestly and switch up formats and strategies before throwing in the towel and giving up. I definitely don't suggest uploading every day for a year, you'd exhaust both you and your audience. There's absolutely a sweet spot you have to figure out, I tried so many different kinds of videos before figuring out that the ones where I was honest & transparent about my journey and gave sincere advice were the ones that performed the best. A lot of this career is just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks! Thanks for watching

@@KelseyRodriguez Awww I'm glad that you're doing well!! Ahhh that's a big RIP 😭, I absolutely HATE when that happens like it's one of those minor technical difficulties that can make you end up scrapping an entire video 😂😭 I'm sure that the video will be amazing regardless of how the audio will be! Tbh, I've been on the struggle bus for the past few weeks! 😭 It felt like everything was kinda crumbling down on me at once, but I'm finally starting to get back in the groove LOL!

right?? Van Gogh only sold one painting in his entire life, I don't see anyone saying that that makes him any less of an artist than John Singer Sargent

Hi kelsey👋 how are you doing? BTW I have a question and I feel like that you can give me some sort of suggestion. I'm an artist who loves to draw basically everything and whatever comes in my mind but I'm quite struggling with growing on Instagram and wanting to actually level up my art skills as an artist. The thing that I'm struggling is with my target audience/followers. I used to draw a lot of fanarts from anime, series and realistic portraits too but lately I'm interested in color pencils, watercolor and drawing more foods, nature and I've felt that due to my inconsistency in art a lot of my followers unfollowed me since I approached the wrong target audience( literally a mixture of anime fans, anime artist, painters, realistic drawing fans and etc.) Sometimes I feel really sad that being an artist on Instagram kinda put myself in a box. I mean I just really want to share most of my sketchbook art works but no one seems interested due to having a messy feed with wrong audience. Because of this I feel so sad and unhappy most of the time .
