Thanks for the info. Getting it through RTO is not easy and very time consuming. A visit to RTO is required. Logically if I can drive a vehicle in India, I should be able to drive in any country(except right hand drive countries where, I may require additional training/practice). This is definitely a good option. At least we have something concrete to show the traffic police in the destination country which they can understand. Of course this is a permit and not a license, so we will have to keep our Indian DL also. I dont think they will go much deep in whether it is legal or not. I hope this will work fine in Thailand,Vietnam and Russia.
