I’m SO glad this video popped up on my page! I’m a soon to be sophomore in college(trying to graduate a year early though) and I’m switching into pre-vet! I’m so incredibly excited & I’ve just been trying to get all the information I can. I love how real & raw you are because plans don’t normally go ideally and not many people show when that happens. THANK YOU!

American schools are more interested in skin color, minorities, and foreigners than merit. (grades) Very controversial topic.

@@PerrincinaSprecaciit’s definitely not the advantage you may think it is. from a logical standpoint, vet school in the states just isn’t worth it for a lot of students. i’m someone who made excellent grades and maintained an A average GPA (in undergrad) but decided to detour towards another STEM major due to the complex and horrible vet admission system. i think it’s unfortunate how unrealistic the admission system is. i believe academic discipline and clinical experience should be the most vital components in the admissions process. i was attending one of the top schools in the US for Vet-Med and one of my professors (she was on the admissions committee for the vet school) was very honest about the process. legacy admissions come first (let’s see if this actually dissipates with the recent supreme court decision). in addition, it is extremely unlikely to get in your first time applying. they usually wait 3 cycles to see if you’re “dedicated” which i think is just completely ridiculous. vet school is a very long process that costs a lot of money and upon graduation, you need residency. if the admission process was more close to medical school (which i don’t think will ever be the case because vet schools are so limited) i would’ve without a doubt completed it.

@@PerrincinaSprecaciand to your remark about a “community college,” regardless of if the admission process is easier, the curriculum is still the same. you cannot even get close to achieving a doctorate in veterinary medicine if you fail the curriculum. clinical trials, tests, practicals, etc, it literally doesn’t matter whether or not the admission process is easier you still have to pass. the admission process in the states is terrible and needs revision.

I looked up the mission statements of the school and then I searched the website for things that the school did that interested me personally. I looked into their student ambassador programs, clubs, international study programs, etc. It was a lot easier to talk about the school with my interviewers when I was passionate about what they had to offer!

Hi, how do you get qualified to do the prerequisite courses? like do you have to take SAT? I am not a resident of the US and would like to study vet medicine there.
@lindseybaker94763 жыл бұрын
I took the ACT to get into West Virginia University and was automatically eligible to take all courses I needed to complete my degree of Animal and Nutritional Sciences. I had to take the GRE for some veterinary schools but not all of them required it. Each school is different so you have to check their website for what they require!
@imixmuan90812 жыл бұрын
Most US schools require a Bachelor's degree, even if they say they don't.To get in with less you have to be an exceptional candidate, as in a 4.0 GPA and perfect GRE scores.. 20 years ago I didn't have to take the GRE, my GPA was high enough they waived it. That will not happen now. I went to Ross University, in the Car-a-bee-an. Wasn't AVMA accredited at the time, is now, so I had to take PAVE in 2003 first time they offered it. Honestly, if I had to do it again....probably wouldn't. PA or Nursing are better careers, same money. Ok, maybe a little less unless you are a Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Anesthetist. Being a vet started to really suck after 2016, and it's not improving. I'm so close to retirement I can't really change careers at this point. Getting out of clinical practice and sorta going into teaching now, liking it so far. For the most part.

If your a vet tech do you still have to do under grad

Do you mean if you are currently a vet tech and want to pursue getting your DVM degree? Or what are the requirements to become a technician?
@bunniesarecutel0l2504 жыл бұрын
Yes I’m a vet tech I’m studying for bachelors next year
@lindseybaker94764 жыл бұрын
So I guess it would depend on how many college courses you have taken already. I’m guessing you would have had to acquire either an associates or bachelors degree to get into your vet tech program, so I would first see which classes you will need to take. To be able to apply, the veterinary school will require a certain amount of prerequisite courses in subjects like biology, math, and anatomy. These courses can be taken anywhere and typically take about 2 years to finish. Each veterinary school has their own prerequisites, so you have to check where you want to apply first. Being that you are already a technician means you have a lot of the field experience that they want. As long as you have completed the appropriate amount of classes you will be set!

hi I’m in high school and aspire to be a veterinarian someday! one dream of mine is to study abroad and I think that it would be really cool to do while I get my undergraduate degree I was wondering did you have any international students in your vet school that might have gotten an undergraduate degree in another country other than the u.s? is it possible to get into vet school in the u.s with a degree from another country? or is it possible for me to do my undergraduate in the u.s and do vet school in another country? do you think I could get a job in the u.s with a foreign vet degree? thank you for the video it is very helpful and thanks if you can answer any of these questions ❤️

When you apply through the VMCAS, there are options for schools outside the United States, like Europe, Australia, etc. As long as you acquired a bachelor's degree and meet the prerequisites, I don't see why they would deny you. I think if you're graduating from a school outside the United States, you MIGHT have to take an English test (I could totally be wrong so I would research that.) Also, definitely study abroad while you are in undergrad! I went to Athens and the Cayman Islands while in school and am going back to go to Tanzania and Peru. I feel that it is more cost effective and safer to go while in school then trying to go by yourself after. Hope that helps! (As a reference, I just graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in the United States and am reapplying to veterinary school)

@@jacquelinecastaneda4896 I've done this and it's like any other 4-year undergrad degree (very similar to pre-med). All the usual sciences, of course. The pre-reqs are listed at all vet schools so take a look at their websites. Just like Medical school, you don't need a particular degree before applying. It's certainly easier to get through the study if you have a related field of study and not ancient languages, or art, but people have done it.
