This will be available as an update in adobe lightroom soon, So if you are a lightroom user, right-click on your photo and select enhance details and see if it's available... 👍👍👍

Hi Ian - as you mentioned, it's not available in Lightroom yet, but I've noticed that if I edit an image in Lightroom and then subsequently open the original RAW file in Photoshop, the file opens in Camera Raw with all of my edits (including cropping, and even the Fuji camera profile). Of course, I can then use Super Resolution! I think this is because I've got Lightroom set up to save XMP sidecar files, which I don't think is the default. It seems to work with the Fuji and Nikon Raw files I've tried so far anyway.

Really interesting! I assume that this an update to the original Enhanced Details which used to work for me in PS2020 and then caused crashes every time I used it in PS2021. (I'm a Fuji user). An hour and a half with Adobe's technical support didn't resolve it. They did offer another round of support but, by then, I had started to open Raw files in Lightroom, use the Enhance Details there and then send the file to PS 2021. Just tried this new feature in PS2021 and, thankfully, it works. Looks like I'll be changing my work flow again. Thanks very much, Ian! A problem solved! 👍

Very interesting Ian, I've been messing around with this since Adobe released this update. I think it works well providing the donor image is top quality, if your image is noisy that can also become enlarged! Can't wait until you do some videos/ photos using the Fuji GFX.

I'm anxious to see further work on this. In my opinion, Adobe Camera Raw's upsizer is a step in the right direction and easy to use but there are free enlargers on-line that often perform better. AI Enlarger is one example. I want to do further comparisons using a few of these. I'm sure it varies from camera brand to brand as well so what works best for one may not work for another. I have to say I was quite disappointed that Adobe didn't include this in LR on the recent release. ACR and LR have historically been very comparable in features and seem to use the same engine so I'm not sure why they deviated this time.

This is wild, can't wait to try it out. For me, this could this be the missing link with the Fuji system: being able to resolve some extra detail and sharpness basically writes off the idea of switching to full frame.

@Steven Jancsik What I wrote was this process will resolving SOME extra detail and sharpness: which it clearly does, the proof is in the pudding if you watch the video. I never said it would magically conjure up details (like an insect in water). I don't know what you're arguing with.

Hello Ian. Thank you for that video. I have seen other reviews on super rez however none have looked at the print aspect. If you do happen to loan/borrow a GFX medium format I would love to see say a 100MP GFX image printed compared to a super rez x series sensor in the same way you enlarged the prints for purposes of this video. Once again thanks, very useful video indeed and all the better that I'm in the market for a printer 👍

One more vote for Topaz Gigapixel AI. Same sort of idea but works a bit better than Adobe's offering. I think it's important to add that while all this post-processing trickery is amazing and definitely works in many situations, an APS-C sensor will not have the same tonal registration as something like a GFX medium format body. It's the bit depth and tonal reproduction where the larger sensor wins. Certainly not critical in many many situations, but resolution alone isn't the only benefit.

Thanks for the tip, it works great. It even takes care of the Worm Artefacts issue. The only downside is the enormous size of the file. From 56MB to a whopping 425MB. I was doing a pano to print on a little over 1 meter wide with 7 images but that was to much for my iMac.....it was 600mpix! Looked awesome once it loaded but I was unable to print so kept it at the original files for now.

@@ian_worth Hi. I have tried it with files from my GFX 50S and it crashes, even when I crop down to smaller file sizes :-(. Unless it is just my system, seems like there are a few bugs to sort out. That being said, looking at your enhanced file, while I see no reduction in detail at twice the resolution, and indeed some sharpening, the quality of the GFX files still looks miles better to my eye. At first look, this is not quite a game changer, but certainly useful if forced to do a big crop for example.

No it can’t compete because you can do the same with a medium format image. A super res 100MP would just be even more stunning. The other thing about medium format is that it gives a different field of view at a given focal length ie a “medium format look” which you cannot achieve with photoshop editing, just like full frame and APSC are just different.

MISLEADING I did it and all it does is change change the size of the resolution so if u take the original image look at the size of pixels and size of the image it just doubles it but when u resize the to same dimensions as the unaltered one the pixel size is still the same so if u make the image with both files and print at say 20 inches 300dpi the pixel amount is exactly the same....??? therefore in PS u can always change the resolution size of your images but the image dimension change with it therefore its misleading it does NOT give u double the pixel size in the same image size. u CAN NOT CHANGE THE PIXEL AMOUNT IN YOUR ORIGINAL IIMAGE FILE SIZE ALL U CAN DO IS CHANGE THE RESOLUTION WHICH MAKES THE DIMENSIOIN OF FILE SIZE BIGGER.. ITS A USELESS FUNCTION
