How to get more miles in your Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - BMU reset

Is your Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV low on kilometres or miles even when the battery is fully charged? Try this simple steps and see if you get any improvement. I got 10 miles more on 3/4 battery and 14 miles more on full battery. It didn't only improve the range on the display but also in reality.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF DOG do not attempt any sort of BMU corruption. Those who have tried this have discovered that their battery health quickly plummets to less than it was to begin with. The reason is that a re-initialised BMU causes the cells to discharge too much, thus damaging them. By the time the BMU catches up with reality, it's too late. Fix is FAQ section A.4

Tried it. Only 8 km then became 28 km on the display. Hope it´s for real and not just for show. Anyway, fun doing this little trick, thanks! (Of course the battery wasn´t fully charged...)

Just did this on my 2015 Outlander and went from 17 miles on a supposed full charge to 25 so I’m well happy, hope it works for anyone else who tries it. UPDATE… it’s the next day & it’s dropped to a 16 mile full charge again. Repeated the procedure again, and it went from 16 to 21, I’m wondering how many times you can do this before it might cause some damage, if anybody knows out there could you leave a comment for the rest of us, thank you.

this is not a BMU reset, this is just resetting the counter with zero data, so it calculates higher mileage. You have to do a Smoothing procedure also called DBCAM with the right software (there are no shortcuts). It takes time and you have to charge and decharge the batteries, takes several hours. Ask your dealer if you don't have anybody else to do it.

@ thanks for your answer, I’ve stopped doing it but now the ancillary battery is dying & none of the car part shops appear to do them?! Might be an overpriced main dealer rip off, I’ve got my mechanic on it but you seem a knowledgeable chap & might know of some suppliers yourself if you’d be so kind.

@@adreenal honestly I am experimenting with a Bosch battery (12V) myself, because I didn't want to spend that much money. But only because I charge at home, and I need the 12V only to start the system, never letting the system run too long on the 12V. I calculated that I can change battery every 2 years from that money. The original Yuasa held up for over 9 years, that has to be mentioned to be fair.

this was not a reset of the BMU, this was a reset of the GOM, what happens, when you simply disconnect the 12V battery

This just resets the guess-o-meter resulting overcharging and wear on the batteries.
