Barney the Streetwise should have the unrestricted throttle body but for some reason it doesn't, and you can't just swap for another because the cables are different, but I had an idea...

Interesting thought...i wonder if more head gaskets blew on the unrestriced throttle body engines than the restricted. Great video this though.

Not being at all mechanically minded, I’d have thought the opposite might be true given that to get any sort of performance from the restricted version ( even just maintaining a reasonable speed on a longish hill) needs higher revs for longer thus more stress? Having said that, having made the change, I now enjoy revving the nuts off it to enjoy the extra performance. It’s almost like driving a grown up car 🤣

Another additional cost for changing to the unrestricted throttle body, for those of us without trade policies, is in its insurance premium. Worth every penny though.

No one would ever know you had changed it , definitely not a insurance assessor , we mapped my sons corsa black edition and changed the camshaft in it , then he wrote it off , the only thing I was pleased I did was put 2 new tyres on the front so we didn’t have any quibbles and they paid out

@@Phil-1969 I’m sure they wouldn’t ever check it. However, if you don’t declare a notifiable modification if the insurer asks for it on a new insurance application, a renewal or a claim you are committing insurance fraud. Given that the restricted throttle body was used specifically to lower insurance costs for the 84 bhp unit vs the 103 version and the mod is so well known, I prefer not to lie about it. (Of course it only really becomes a lie if you get found out!🤣)

Hey Paul. You so right... 20bhp was very noticeable on my wife's 25s. The 1.4 83 was horrible to drive, so slow. Keep up the good work.

Clever free throttle body mod & clock fix, hope you fixed the embarrassing Earthing Issue. No telling with road tax, Brothers 2009 Fiesta 1.4TDCi is £20 per year road tax, same since new ! yet most cars go up every year, my 1992 1.6 mx5 £310 & my 1987 polo 1.3 £220. However friends in Holland pay much higher road tax than us

That tax band stuff really gets at me. My dad pays something like £200 more for his L200 truck than I do for mine . exactly the same specification but one year older. I always thought road fund tax was to fund the roads? Worse is to come I think. We will live to see old cars hidden away and started only when the neighbours are out. Folk ringing their dealer for a quarter ounce of weed and two gallon of unleaded.

Master technician at my work owns a beautiful '08-plate Honda S2000. He tells me the tax is £675pa. If it was an early model (say an X-reg), it would be £325pa.

Ok i dud the TMB (tight miserable bastard) throttle body upgrade. It does feel faster. But when diaging something else i found, to my horror that the tps is only registering 60% during live data. The shape of the unrestricted throttle arm on the butterfly must be different to get the full 100% with the same throttle pedal travel.

Does it make any more difference if you remove the plastic wedge from the throttle butterfly, too?

@@ProjectNigel there’s another bit on the inside of the throttle body that’s screwed onto the brass disc and it interferes with the airflow at full throttle. I meant that bit. You’d need to fill in the screw holes after, though, and it can have a negative effect on drivability at small throttle openings, so it’s not such an obvious benefit as the throttle stop modification.

Why does the Streetwise cost more in road tax? 🤔 Here are my reasonably logical musings : The tax rate is based on emissions. I suppose the only logical conclusion is the Streetwise emissions are higher than the 25. Why could that be? Is it that raising the ride height and slapping on slabs of plastic & roof bars increases the air resistance so a bit more fuel is needed, hence more emissions. Begs the question, does the Streetwise have a bit worse MPG than the 25? It would be logical to assume so. Here is my potentially equally likely theory: Road tax is entirely dictated by Government policy and therefore a load of old b0ll0ck$😁
