When I realized my average duration percent wasn’t as high as I would’ve hoped, I started to make shorter videos. That includes KZbin shorts, and three minute videos instead of something longer. As I trained myself to keep retention in shorter videos, I understand how to keep them in the longer ones!

@@activemusickid I would gladly share my notes if I knew where they were, since my comment was posted a year ago. I would say just keep watching the channel. I also listen to their podcasts while driving, or doing odd jobs (this is not a paid promo; I just follow their content). You'll see/hear themes coming across that eventually stick. All the best for success!

I was hesitant if I was going to bother watching this video; I felt like I had watched enough 5-10 videos on thumbnails, niches, keywords, titles, analytics etc., that I didn't need to "waste" my time with a full-hour video. But I was wrong! THANK YOU for sharing this masterclass - it was incredible! I LOVE the detailed breakdowns WITH EXAMPLES that make it easy to understand the different concepts and clearly show why some method work for certain types of content but need to be adjusted for others (leaving me MINDBLOWN, btw - I have never seen anyone break down the different types of intros before!) Giving us the full breakdown of building blocks make the concept so much easier to understand and apply. I love my channel and content, and now I finally feel confident that I have the tools to deliver it to the right people in a way that will engage :) ps, I took 9 pages of notes during this video, that are now being incorporated into my workflow templates and are stored in my binder :P THANK YOU!

It’s always worth creating. Regardless of watch time, making 20 videos is a huge learning process, writing the script gives you experience, imagine if Von Gogh just hadn’t bothered painting because nobody liked his ideas.

Consider how many channels are pumping out a constant stream videos titled "get more views, get more subscribers".... to make money. I'm already getting burned out on them. I don't want to watch any more. It's taking the fun out of making videos, for me. I'm adding a new subscriber about every other day without giving it any thought. I, therefore, consider my channel a success despite the fact that I'll never make any money from it.

The Perfect Video Recipe: 1. The Big Idea When going through so many movie scripts Hollywood film producers don’t have time to read the whole thing so instead they often just ask the creator “what is it about?” Then they have 1-2 sentences to describe it and if it doesn’t seem good, entertaining, or worth peoples time they will skip it. This is called a “log line”. You have to have a good one of these for each KZbin video you make. You have to frame it in a way that the long line will do good and people will want to watch. Make videos with a lot of search demand behind them. Even if the content is niche frame it in a way that applies to a larger audience The common desires and problems of my audience will be my BIG IDEAS 1. Curiosity “Why Alton Brown is warning people about san marzano tomatoes” 2. Negativity “3 reasons you should NOT buy a Tesla” 3. List “The 7 BEST Purchases to make in your 20s” 4. Timelines (news/trend jacking) “20 halloween candies you should never eat” (published a week before halloween) 5. Authority “How Military Linguists learn languages fast” 6. Deep Desire “how to change your life in 3 weeks” 7. Time frame “10k followers in 10 days” 8. Beginner Tips “how to get your first push up” 9. Epic/Extreme “I made a giant 30 pound kit-kit” 10. Refute an objection “How to make money on KZbin shorts without making videos” *on average videos have at least 2 of the elements above *50% of all the videos have a number in them Look for videos that have done well for others in your niche and use them as inspiration for ideas in your own writing Use KZbin keyword autofill for ideas Titles: - If you confuse you lose (5th grade reading level) - Shorter is better (what’s up front is most important) - Chocolate covered carrot - Write title before video 2. Hook Intro: - Tease whats coming up (highlights, most exciting part) - Get right into the action - Reinforce the title 3. Content - Lead them down a path - Make it easy to digest with bullet points - Change camera angle each topic - Add visuals on screen - Change music with each chapter - Show don’t tell - Make chapter intro quick so people don’t skip it - Answer specific questions 4. Transition - Transition into next best video - Make them feel that its a must watch or the video they just watched would be a waste of time. Do this by making that next video important to the teaching points of this video. It’s not just ___ it’s also this this and that.

This may sound like a weird request - but could you do a video on how to use Epidemic sound to find the best sound effects and background music? I don’t know why but I always struggle with finding the right vibe to fit my background. I can picture in my mind what I want - but searching it in the moment is often tough!

Tip #1....Add Nolan's pic to the thumbnail as you know good info will follow 😜 I love taking ideas from your videos and adding them to my low performing videos. I have videos with over 100k views, but have videos that can't break 1k views!! It is frustrating, but I take your lessons and ideas, add them to my own videos, and if it works.......I use that as a sort of template for my future videos.
