I know that that isn't exactly ahistorical, since oftentimes people od marginalized groups end up fighting with their opressors for whatever reason, but for fucks sake can't the majority of the people I'm opressing just try to get themselves rights so I can accept them instead of trying to lose even more rights?

I haven't technically played w/o VotP, but I believe you can utilize the general and exile method even w/o it, so you'd just have to use that for everything. Forbidden ideologies not allowed tho
@jackhemsworth110 ай бұрын
@@generalistgaming Exactly. Unfortunately this disproportionally affects the start of campaigns when generals and admirals can't roll certain ideologies. So far, the only start I've found where you can utilize the 'general and exile' method at the start of the game to great benefit is Wallachia as their monarch is an abolitionist landowner even though their IG ideology starts with pro-slavery.
@generalistgaming10 ай бұрын
No I mean that you can check the generals at start, try to find, say, a Jingoist landowner, and then recruit that general in a way that's similar to the Humanitarian example - not like the Russia example specifically. It does make it so you can't abuse the Moderate into anything trick though. I also think the feature locking is much more minimal than they did w/ say, Eu4@@jackhemsworth1
@jackhemsworth110 ай бұрын
@@generalistgaming Yes you can recruit a Jingoist or Democrat landowner general if say you rolled an Authoritarian or Pacifist at the start which can be a little helpful. But not being able to grant leadership to a market liberal agitator via corn laws, abusing an exiled moderate, or following the Russian abdication example makes getting off serfdom/traditionalism a struggle. I agree that it's not as bad as EU4. Sorry for the rant lol, its just frustrating seeing such an easy solution with VotP.
@scorpioneldar10 ай бұрын
@@jackhemsworth1 personally the general trick is the only one I use even with Votp and I never have any problems. so many nations can't take exiles in at game start and once your about 30 ish years into the game the trick is meaningless anyway. you already have the laws that let you empower the IG's to get the laws naturally. (once the nobles are broken you can do pretty much whatever. and the general trick is all you need to break your nobility.) like you use this trick a lot to get cultural exclusion/Multiculturalism. but if you start with national supremacy (And most do) you can't invite exiles anyway and once you have cultural exlusion. you don't need the trick anymore. same if you have closed borders. same if the exile isn't popular enough. there are plenty of things that can block you from using VOTP at all. and most nations have at least one. and ussually by the time you solve that thing. what you needed a exile for is already done. so exiling your moderate often means you can't bring them back even if they were the only character you ever could have brought back. its a really small thing. arguably an exploit. not a main mechanic of the game.

@dmitrygavr68769 ай бұрын
As for Corn laws, one of the other means to trigger it is changing all of your farms' PMs to alcohol or fruit, basically off of focused wheat. Also, building food industries and ranches, as well as mobilizing your armies goes along way to increase grain consumption. It is possible to do Corn laws even on Russia (not on Qing of course) by combining all of these methods. I think you did show it off on streams, but spared time here. Also, marked liberal landowner allows for abolishing serfdom itself if you have to do it first.
@oldetobie256810 ай бұрын
Also Generalist, if you could do a guide on manipulating interest groups that would be awesome. I don’t know how you manage to get all the useful ones so powerful.
@ImperativeGames10 ай бұрын
He did a few tutorials on that. Laws and generals are obvious but there are 3 tricks. Buy (trade) goods produced in rural buildings (like grain), build buildins that employ Capitalists/Academics/Machinists/whoever you want. Make some goods less profitable by overbuilding. Wealth gives clout. Finally, high SoL makes pops that support stuff like Trade Unions politically active.
@generalistgaming10 ай бұрын
I might try and figure out how to do this but honestly its a TON of little things so it's really hard to organize for a video. I made one specifically for the Trade Unionists that might still be a little relevant, but there have been some clout changes since then.

I'm assuming this has been patched already, but for 1.5.7 when deleting armies, if there are no empty slots in other armies, then the deleted army's generals will just die. This allows for easy rerolling of IG ideologies without the approval hit that occurs for firing 20+ generals (though I suppose it could be countered by saving beforehand and just reloading when enough generals have been fired). Another detail I noticed is that when transfering generals across armies, you can ignore the general/commander cap (probably to prevent deleting a leveled general by accident). This leads to cases where you could have 5, maybe 6, or in my case ~100 fully promoted generals in a single army all helping to boost IG clout. This clout boost can help with passing laws at the expense of a couple hundred - thousand bureaucracy cost, which honestly isn't an issue when playing EIC or Qing or really any end game country. What's even better is that you can delete the army after passing your wanted laws and just recreate this IG army whenever you want to easily pass a law. Hopefully someone with a newer version of the game could verify if these 'features' are still in the game.
@charvakpatel96210 ай бұрын
I think it has been fixed, cause I remember deleting an army that was stuck due to a path bug ( fuck that bug ), That was the army where I collected most of my good offensive generals. To my surprise, they just joined other empty slots. But didn't know this bug was there, I may i have to again explicitly verify it.

China can trigger corn law easily,first you move your market center to the island of Taiwan,then you export grain as much as possible, remove the ports on Taiwan after the trade route are made. This will trigger the corn law, and after you get the agitator you want, you need to release Taiwan as an independent country, this action will bring the trade center back the capital, thus you can develop normally.

I used to exile authoritarians or Royalists to get rid of negative approval in the long term, but this opens up a lot of possibilities, cause you can do both simultaneously, re-roll the general and exile moderates. Do you know if there are any extra restrictions for Japan? Cause I don't think I ever rolled Market Liberal there, Most I get is Protectionist that too after mostly 20-30 years at which point I am already out of serfdom and at least have enacted Interventionism. For Japan, I just always inevitably have to force a revolution post making a defensive alliance with a GP cause peaceful restoration sucks and takes way to long but if I can use the same thing in Japan, maybe I won't need a rev and it can make peaceful restoration a bit more viable.

@generalistgaming10 ай бұрын
It's because I have a ton of clout on them, which influences who you roll (some IGs have a bonus, like AF). The most straightforward play pattern if these are weak IGs is to force and win a rev and then recruit a bunch of what you want. You can roll a lot though, and every time you come by an intelligentsia or TU that isn't popular recruit them and promote them to max so that it starts to get easier to roll them. May need to wait a week for clout to recalc from that though.

It's heavily influenced by the clout they have in gov (w/ a bonus for some groups, like the armed forces) so if those IGs are really small it will take a lot of rolls to find one. You can get the guys who aren't popular, and promote them all the way to boost the IGs clout as you're rolling.
