I recently explained the constant feeding of the fans to my band with this analogy: “Imagine 50 dogs are in a park and there are a bunch of people standing in a circle around them. Who are the dogs going to pay attention to? Whoever is giving them the most treats obviously. Content is the treats” it seemed to finally click after that lol

A lot of this video is really about GIVING IN TO THE PROCESS. Artists want to release one song and blow up -- not realizing they aren't ready. I started music with a five year plan, I don't expect major results for a while still. And by then I'll be more than prepared, we will be ready for anything.

Oh god, the amount of delusional artists that I have heard say "well Radiohead and TOOL release albums once a decade, and they have massive fanbases, so I'll just do that!" The funniest thing is that, if you look up the discography of each of these artists, you will see that they were releasing multiple songs every year in the form of demos, EPs, singles, and albums until they got their big break. Of course they were also playing tons of live shows and pretty much just doing pre-social media CSP. Great content as always Jesse!

This is the most realistic input on this topic. The bottom of it is you need to be productive and planned. You made a very good distinguish between established artists and DIY artists. So far the other channels keep repeating that we should share reels and such to follow the trends and get on bandwagons. I mean, no thank you, I don’t want to be posting myself dancing on TikTok as an electronic music producer. Instead creating the music and the art surrounding it sounds way more cooler.

I made around 220 songs last year. Probably gonna make more this year. So yea droppin only one song every four weeks is hella difficult for me. I'm on course to drop a 10 song project every month this year. And like you said, people prolly just think I'm throwin shit at the wall. But I put a lot of genuine effort into every single song. I make em all live on Twitch too. Been at it for a year now. Not sure how effective it is but I do it every day
@gabrielhues2 жыл бұрын
Watch jesse’s other videos,dropping that much music might be overkill but also it doesn’t work well for pitching (since you can only pitch one song from a release to Spotify) also algorithmically I believe you can only have one song on peoples release radar in a 4 week rotation,so you’d have missed opportunity there. Just because you make that much music (which is amazing) doesn’t mean it all needs to come out. Good luck though

Hey Jessie, you may or may not remember me, but I've been with you since 2013! YOUR STUFF IS AWESOME!! I have a dog-eared, pencil marked, red-pen-starred, and yellow-highlighted copy of the first edition of your "Get More Fans" book, and I have a PDF of the 2014 edition. I've been using your strategies for years, and everything you teach is common sense, and works! So grateful to have found you here on KZbin! QUESTIONS: at 4:05 - you've updated your Single Release Strategy from a six-week cycle to an eight-week cycle, to include adding an Alternate Version of songs. That cycle works great for vocal songs, but what about instrumentals? We can't really release a "Lyric Video", because there is no one singing. (I guess that's where the Visualizer comes in?) Also, the "Alternate Version" - with my band, that's easy, but what about works for solo piano? We already worked out the arrangement for the piece. Maybe do a live version or just another kind of arrangement of the same thing? I'm not trying to be a dumbass here - it's just much easier when working with a band than working on solo artist stuff. Thank you so much for being here, and everything you do for our industry! 😀

You can do any length you want but Spotify isn’t paying royalties on shorter songs. I’d say do what’s best for the song and if they do well you can figure it out from there optimizing over 60 seconds.

Love your videos, thank you! Question: as part of your song release strategy of releasing the main official video weeks after and doing a visual/lyric video first - is this assuming you already have a music video fully ready for release but you have to wait? If so, why? If you have the main official music video ready to go, why delay it and not release it with the official song drop on streaming? PS - this is for a brand new artist, meaning debut single

Jesse, would you be interested in making a video geared for artists who because they need to hold onto their full time non music jobs plan on staying local and at most regional? Jesse thank you for this video! I’ve been reading your books for years but I just finally released my own music recently and have been feeling nervous and discouraged. This video is a great summary of your approach and you really emphasized some different things that I really needed to hear today. In a broad sense do you think that you would need to do anything significantly different with CSP as an artist who is just starting out? I just started posting content and stories around my song but since I only have one song out the engagement isn’t huge so far, which is to be expected, but I worry about seeming like I’m trying too hard or “big timing” and turning potential fans off since I’m in a scene that’s pretty DIY and fairly anti-self promotion. Do you have any videos addressing this & if not could you make one? Thanks again!
@Musformation2 жыл бұрын
The only big difference is I sometimes think it can be helpful to sump a little content at first so if you blow up there’s more to dig in to. A lot of artists sadly have a song blow up but miss out on building a relationship since there’s nothing to dig into. I have a video coming about this soon.

What about producers who enjoy making a few different types of music? I make R&B, hip hop, EDM, funk, and neo soul and sometimes blend these genres.
