Thanks for Video, this video helps me to understand driving licence process. Today (July 12 2022) I visited Edision DMV at 8:15am for initial permit. I want to share my experience. 1. They ask me if I have any DL, I gave my India DL, The officer told if my DL pass through the validation I may get DL without Road test. 2. They ask me are you able to take Knowledge test right away, unfortunately I am not prepared, the next available date after 40 days. So, take your India DL and prepare well for Knowledge test before you visit DMV, so there is a chance to take initial permit and knowledge test same day. If they accept your India DL then no road test. Edit: Yesterday (Aug 23,2022) I attended the knowledge test. Luckily I cleared the exam with 40 marks, after the exam they verified my indian dl again and issued the nj DL.

Good Vlog Ashish, One correction, you do not need INITIAL PERMIT if you have Indian license, straight pass your knowledge test and you get your DL!! I have taken it the same way!!! No need for initial permit!! I got my license in 2018, so not sure if the rules changed!! Let me know if they did, as you said good to have knowledge shared!!! Love your vlogs!!! Keep it up and hopefully we meet soon!!

Hi Prakshal! Yes it does seem that some rules have changed as now it is mandatory for everyone to get the initial permit in order to take the knowledge test

If you have an accepted international license, I can confirm that you need an initial permit in NJ before you can give the knowledge test in 2021.

You can schedule the knowledge test , the day you recieve your initial permit. They give it you on the day of your appointment, at the MVC itself. To book a knowledge test, you ll need initial permit number so you cant book it prior to receiving an initial permit

Only difference is that in India one can drive vehicles in any state with license from other state and it is valid, however in US once your residence state has changed you have to apply for the DL for that state and hour existing DL is canceled.

The test in Rahway DMV haven’t been easy After passing the written test i gave them my Delhi and Middle East driving licenses and still they asked me to take the driving test 😭

Hey Ashish be careful cops might ticket you on NJ Turnpike or Major roads when you drive while vlogging. You will need Real ID soon in New Jersey which can be used an ID to enter NJ on airports..
