G’day mate! Just wondering the other way around, how can you get the US citizenship? As much as I like new Zeland it is really far away for me, instead US would only be as far as a 6hs flight from my home country, plus I do have relatives living in the US. But to be honest do know much of the carpentry industry in the US, but i am more familiar with the commonwealth carpentry industry, and the metric system. I ve been in Australia for many year doing my apprenticeship. But I left already. Because of the distance. Any advise for us would be great! Cheers

Unlikely. I have just returned from Iceland & have family in Sweden. English is incredibly widespread but to make the effort to learn some phrases in the local language will be looked upon very highly by your host country.

How have I "not done my homework" when my question was obviously hypothetical? You can become a citizen of Samoa by living there for five years. My question was if anyone wanted to move to Australia after naturalization in Samoa, would they automatically get New Zealand citizenship under their current law? I have no interest in doing this because it would take way too long and I am not that interested in Samoa, but my question was out of general curiosity about the law.

How about this : I wanna start a new life with some other. Whe wanna buy ground, build houses and be self provided. Having sun panels and our own water systems, and farm, hunt and provide for our own food. I was thinking about Siberia or Alaska but new Zealand is a little warmer and it has better agriculture possibilities. I've been seeing on the web lately that New Zealand is "literally paying people" to move to the southern part of the country because there are so few people and too many jobs. Keeping in mind, my income is rather modest - I basically live paycheck to paycheck and rarely have money left over, and practically nothing saved, how likely is it that I could make the move to New Zealand and know that I will have a place to live when I get there, and that I will be able to get a job, get a car and actually survive there?? I know here in Canada, the government is exceptionally generous to newcomers who arrive with nothing... or next to nothing, but is New Zealand the same way?? Hi Seth, when you get NZ residency, you won't be eligible for any benefit or help from govt for atleast 2 yrs. After 2 yrs residency gets converted into Permanent Residency, and now you are eligible for help from GOVT. Having said that, getting a NZ residency right now is very hard.

Yes. NZ has no problems with dual citizenship nor does the US. I have both Kiwi and US passports. I tend to travel using my Kiwi passport as it saves money paying reciprocal fees that some countries charge US citizens.
