One thing I’ve found really useful for nerves when actually performing in an audition is to treat the audition as a performance opportunity instead of a test. I might never get cast in the role and get to actually perform that song or speech for real, so even though it’s a small audience, it’s an audience I get to perform this to, possibly for the only time ever, so I have to enjoy it! Personally, as soon as I started thinking of auditions that way, I got way less nervous in them!

I was cast as a supporting lead in a brand new musical. We got to work with a composer and lyricist duo from NYC and workshop the whole show. It was honestly one of the best theatre experiences I've ever had.(:

I have a story for you guys. I was at The Music Man auditions, and we were all going over the audition song, but almost everyone there knew the story super well, and I did not. So after the audition measures ended, everyone kept singing, except for me because I didn’t know it. And the vocal director says, “looks like you all know his, let’s just go to the end of the song!” So at this point I am freaking out because I don’t know it at all. But then luckily, he changed it so that it was only the part that I practiced. And then I ended up getting the female lead! (Marian Paroo)

fith grade, man it was a day of suspense. I was there for an audition for an elementary school production of Beauty and the Beast. I was shaking as I was saying the given dialogue and stiff when I sang that one song about a star to the right. I was told by the music teacher I did good but I was a dinner plate. A FREAKING DINNER PLATE. The girl who played Belle turned out to be the lead in 6th grade but I mean I got into both productions. I got so excited when I saw the notification. I had put my phone down. When I picked it up and saw the notification, I said (very loudly) “Wait, what? YAY!!!” QOTD: I had a summer camp show (I’m 12 btw) audition in July. We did Alice In Wonderland Jr. We were told to audition with a 1 minute cut of any musical theatre or Disney song. We were only given one night between the first day and the audition. I sang “Pulled” from the Addams Family. (It was a choice. People sang songs from Beauty and the Beast, Mean Girls, and a whole bunch of other stuff) I was freaked out. I found out later that my director is friends with Krysta Rodriguez. I went in and the second I started singing, my director started smiling and didn’t stop smiling until after I stopped. The show was 2 weeks ago. I was the Queen Of Hearts and it was so much fun.

I love how Everyone is giving tips on how to calm down and not be nervous for the audition if you had taken a Audition for a , a TV series, drama, singing, dancing or any other sort or even modeling I hope you get whatever the role that you’re trying to play or whatever you’re trying to do I hope it is successful for you. You’ve got this don’t be sad if you don’t get the role because nine times out of 10 you will and I hope that everything goes great for you and if you’re reading this and you are doing an audition like I said above you got this don’t be afraid you will get this part that you are trying to get and if not there’s always other times to audition and I hope everything goes well for you like I said. Okay so, I just finished auditions today. I felt so nervous like I was gonna mess up. I went over the lines with the people I’m preforming with. I finally got the hang of it and I felt so welcome. I went up on the stage and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I tried saying yeah and stuff to the people talking so I can get my voice going. I was like, okay this is great! I got used to it and we started preforming. We all finished and I was so confident. But I had to be confident and express full while preforming to get my nerves away. And I’m so happy and wanna do more acts and stuff. So, idek why I was so nervous. The people backed me up a little bit if I messed up. And they did! So, don’t let nerves get you down on something you really wanna do because, it’s just a voice.

I'm not a singer first, i'm an actor first, so i choose songs that tell a story and in which i can emote throughout. it's worked on a number of occasions but won't on other. but realizing that each audition isn't just for the show you're auditioning for, sometimes casting directors and directors keep performers in their back pocket for other projects. merde to all those who are auditioning.
