FYI: Starting July 29th, 2024, the Xbox 360 store is getting shut down. This MAY cause the $1 prequel DLC to be gone forever if you have never purchased it. I say "may" because this game is backwards compatible on modern Xbox consoles, so it may remain available. But I'd recommend buying it now just to be safe. If you've already purchased it, you're good to go & will have it forever.

Bonus: On the PSP version of LEGO Star Wars II to get the Prequel Characters you have play through the boss fights from Episodes I-III and in doing those you'll unlock Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Episodes I-III) Anakin Skywalker (Episodes II-III), Darth Maul and Count Dooku. to get the rest of the characters, you will be collecting the Blue Minikits which are exclusive to the PSP version of LEGO Star Wars II, so do the Boss Fights which are through the Bounty Hunter door in the cantina and collect the Blue Minikits and you'll have the Prequel Characters unlocked in LEGO Star Wars II.

WHAT. MORE THAN A DECADE HAS PASSED SINCE I'VE PLAYED THIS AS A KID, THROUGH TEENAGED YEARS, AND NOW ADULTHOOD. I NEVER KNEW OR EVEN HEARD A HINT ON THE ENTIRE INTERNET THAT YOU COULD DO THIS. And man... that USE OLD SAVE extra has been a head scratcher throughout all that time, but I never bothered to Google search it. Then I hear in another random KZbinr's video (kiro talks | saving in video games) them casual casual mention, "In Lego Star Wars II you can transfer over your characters from Lego Star Wars I." My reaction was just: WHAT. And then I KZbin searched those exact words and found this video. I feel... Catharsis. Completion. Fulfillment. Excited to fire up my PS2 and try it for myself.

Just picked it back up tonight and played both for an hour or two. I saw the extra in LSW2 and thought "maybe I should Google this?" Minutes later, I rethought, and looked in that manual. However I came here to double check what it did as that manual did give a rough explanation. (Also this was a case I got from Goodwill which was just the PS2 version, however it has both 1 and 2 in it but I only have the manual for 2)

Fun fact: some prequel characters have slightly different names in Lego Star Wars II. For example, young Boba Fett is just called “Boba Fett” in the first game, and in the second, he is called “Boba Fett (Boy)”. Another example is the Geonosis outfit for Padme was simple called “Padme” in the first game, even though a different outfit of Padme was already present with the same name. In the second game, the Geonosis Padme outfit is corrected to “Padme (Geonosis)”. Pretty cool, though! Also this works for prequel mini kit builds from the first game in bonus levels! Any mini kit you have that’s fully built will be playable in the second game! :)

Something important to note here (at least for PS2 softmod/emulator) is that this feature does NOT work cross-regions, i.e. NTSC LSW2 does not recognize the save for PAL LSW1. Also it looks like you don't need to buy the Extra at all to be able to use LSW1 Minikit vehicles, however, you will still need to fully complete at least one Minikit in LSW2 in order to access Minikit Bonus levels.

I think it only applies to non-overlapping characters. Use Old Save won't give you any of the characters that are in LSW2.

I remember doing this as a child because I was just unlocking everything after I beat the game, and I didn't realize what they actually meant and all of the sudden when I started a game I had access to everyone and could not figure out why. For some odd reason,i would have the phase 1 clone trooper from lego star wars 1 added to my team whenever i played on freeplay battle of endor. This was on gamecube by the way.

Although my LEGO Star Wars video game journey started with Complete Saga (a few years late, though not as late as it could have been due to the PC version, what I play it on using a physical disc, taking two or three more years to come out compared to console), I was curious as to how Use Old Save worked on Xbox 360. I was kind of hoping it'd somehow be backwards compatible with saves from the original Xbox version of LSW1, but I realized that the original Xbox's memory cards are incompatible with the 360.

Yes, unfortunately the 360 and OG Xbox versions are treated completely separately.

Yeah I did, I found out what the problem was, I'm using mx4sio because my ps2s disc drive is broken, and I couldn't dump all my games so I downloaded lsw2 rom, that was from a different region, so that save file thing only works with same region games, both games us, or both games pal. But I decided to get the 360 version and bought the dlc for 99 cents😅 thanks for mentioning that BTW. Glad I saw your video before the xbox 360 store goes down

Actually all the LEGO Star Wars 1 characters are in the files of LEGO Star Wars 2 (having the exception of the xbox 360 version), you just need the save file from LSW1 and done 😉

I found it a bit weird how the Xbox 360 version of Lego Star Wars II requires you to actually purchase the Prequel characters through DLC when the original Xbox version of first Lego Star Wars is backwards compatible, meaning the Lego Star Wars I save file would be present on the 360. However, I shouldn't be complaining because I played both Lego Star Wars I and II on the original Xbox. Plus, I have The Complete Saga on the Wii.

for the ps2 version it comes by itself you just need to have lego star wars the video game in your memory card and you can buy the extra (i think it's free) and activate it this is exactly how it worked for me

@@SeanWheeler100ok you all don’t understand something, the backwards compatibility of Lego Star Wars 1 wasn’t added on the 360 until years after Lego Star Wars 2 released. I own a Xbox 360 and I want to tell you something. Lego Star Wars 2 released for both The original Xbox and the 360. Surprisingly the original Xbox version of Lego Star Wars 2 works on the 360, just with slightly worse graphics. Just buy the Lego Star Wars 2 original Xbox version and play that on your 360 than you can import the characters from Lego Star Wars 1 to Lego Star Wars 2

Honestly, the feature to bring prequel characters into LEGO Star Wars II became redundant after The Complete Saga came out. What's more shocking is the Old Save characters being available as DLC in the Xbox 360 version. Complete Saga is available on the 360, so why would we need that DLC anyway? And besides, you can't even bring the prequel characters into the Cantina and they are never picked for your Free Play party unless you select them yourself. Jar Jar's completely useless because there are no High-Jumpers in the game. The prequel blaster people can't punch or dodge like the original trilogy characters. The Complete Saga fixes all of those issues (other than Jar Jar's nerf in Episodes IV-VI) and you're even able to use original trilogy characters in prequel levels.
