Wouldn't connecting flight costs you more time and money than non-stop journeys though?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

@@PhilipVels Under what circumstances connecting flights wouldn't cost more than direct flights?
@Elanshin Жыл бұрын
@@uberboiz algorithms are funny things. For example, i booked a flight that is MEL > OOL > NRT turned out to be cheaper than the exact same plane and flight from OOL > NRT. The MEL is more of a positioning flight and often very low usage. Other times, airlines have to compete with the fact that direct options exist and thus make it cheaper to connect. For example, Qantas flying from Auckland to LAX has to compete with Air New Zeland who flies direct but Qantas does not. Thus they have to make their flights cheaper. Its sometimes cheaper to fly Auckland > Sydney > LA than it is SYD > LA on the same flight.

@@Elanshin Your example of Qantas vs NZ route to LAX fails to take into consideration that they are two different airlines with two different frequent flyer programs. What this video is suggesting is that you should fly non-direct route (instead of direct route) to accumulate higher points / status credits. Even if the non-direct route by Qantas is cheaper than Air NZ direct route, the QFF points you earn wouldn't be that useful if you are an Airpoints member instead.

@@uberboiz the first example was jetstar flying to Japan that i very much used, got more points and was cheaper.

I have lifetime silver, I got when Silver actually meant something. This was before Qantas introduced platimium and Gold was the highest they have. Qantas then introduced the class above gold. I have lifetime silver that used to get access to business class lounges. Now I got that status by being a loyal Qantas supporter and chosing QANTAS for my airline of choice. QANTAS changed the rules no longer have lounge access. I definetly do not feel like a valued customer anymore and quite frankly would not fly QANTAS again and not proud to call them an Austrailan airline. The goverment SHOULD open up our markets to other airlines because qantas IS BAD. Changing CEO,s will not fix problems giving the ex CEO a golden handshake is an insult.

Not entirely true about earning less status credits on partners. On AA flights you will always earn the same number of status credits as you would flying QF

Silver status means sweet FA

In what way does it mean nothing? You get business class check in and complimentary seat selection on all QF and OneWorld flights!

one thing I find surprising is that my dad has nearly a million qantas points, like wth I know you get points when you buy some things but HOW HE FLYS LIKE 2 TIMES A YEAR

He probably has a business which he processes all his business invoices through a point earning credit card (like Amex platinum)

Qantas silver status is equivalent to having a gocard bus pass.
