Oh my goodness! Thank you so much. I tried to start the painting. (I also didn’t open up the bag either). Then had to look for your video because I couldn’t get anything to stay on the canvas. I went back and created a new canvas following your directions. I opened my motif bag this time. Saved it but accidentally got out of furniture mode and now my painting is gone. It still said to talk to Rapunzel and I did and finish the task but I’d like to hang my painting. I have two customized canvas, but it shows zero by each one. 😕

OK I went back in my inventory and I had three slots for paintings. Still showing zero and blank for each one. I deleted the first one and then both new paintings showed up. I guess you have to delete it from your inventory After you hang it?

I think it depends on how many "blank" canvas's you have in your inventory and that's what makes the difference on what shows up and what you can hang. A lot of things in this game don't always make sense but I think that's why I like it so much.
