Great video, did you have to show proof of onward travel to enter India?
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Good question, I should have covered that in the video as well. No, I didn't have an onward flight and it wasn't a problem. But I have the 10-year visa that Americans can get. For the 30-day e-visa they might ask for proof of an onward flight. I'm not sure how strict they are since I haven't done it myself, but for that one I would say it's best to have the onward flight booked.

I used the 30 day evisa and was not asked for an onward ticket. In fact, they got my birthday wrong and I flew there panicked they would not let me in, and it wasnt even mentioned. i had no issues.
@koyeus7 жыл бұрын
I had 30 days Indian Evisa(USA passport) , flew from Bangkok to Kolkata, indigo airlines would not let me fly without onward ticket. So I had to purchase one quickly at the airport, not fun.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for those two different personal experiences guys, sounds like it's variable, better to have the onward flight booked already. There are cheap flights through Air Asia to Thailand and elsewhere so that's a good place to check. Also you could try skyscanner, plug in "Everywhere" and then it will show you the cheapest flights possible all over the world.

Now is fine, I was trekking in Nepal last year through the month of May. I think the monsoon can come in June, but of course it depends on where and when it arrives. Hello Gabriel, Great video! I'll be traveling to southern India alone during monsoon season in July. What type of rain gear would you recommend for monsoon rain? Also, I read that the e-visa lasts from 30 to 60 days? I checked the Indian government website but it is now down for maintenance. Lastly, any recommendations of places to visit, stay and eat (I'm vegan) in Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Bangalore, Mysore and Kerala? Thank you! Michael.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
As far as I know the e-visa is only valid for 30 days, but maybe they changed it recently. Not sure about that since I've never gotten it. As for rain gear just get a basic rain slicker of some sort, something that's pretty thin because it will be hot, so you don't want it to warm you up. Not sure about the vegan restaurants, I think there's an app for finding vegan places?

Hey Gabriel thanks for this informative Video, but one question i got How much Money i need when im traveling in india for 6 Months cheap as possible ? Thanks.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
About $15 a day will do it, so call that $500 per month equals about $3,000 for six months. Keeping in mind you said as cheap as possible. But that's pretty doable.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Possibly, but it depends a lot on where you go. Out of the tourist zones then yes, you could find a mid-range hotel for $15 or so. But there's a big jump when it comes to the nicer hotels. $1,000 a month is only about $30 a day and the mid-range hotels in touristy areas will go up a lot to maybe $30 or more, so then you don't have anything left for other expenses. But if you can afford $1,000 per month then you can travel nicely but will still have to think in budget terms to an extent.
@mathieutallard63287 жыл бұрын
For me, easy way to play safe if to figure out 100$ a day. I have no problem to come back home with the money i didn' t spend. Travelling with the nice feeling of having more money than needed is a great feeling. The oposite is shit.

I had arrived in India several years ago, I was escorting my mother inlaw back to her home and to visit my wife's family. I forgot that my 10 year Indian visa was in my previous passport until I arrived in India. I was not allowed to come into the country and was required to get the next plane out of India at my cost. The Airlines are required to check that I have a visa/passport prior to my departure but that fell through the cracks. Aside from the cost, the 48 hours plus of travel was very very arduous. Now I have read they have a visa upon arrival at some airports. I forget the specifics but it sure would have been nice to have that option when this happened. PS A video idea, 2nd class train "Never" I had a nightmare experience riding in a 2nd class train car, I took a wrong train and when I realized I was heading in the wrong direction (a police man told me that was my train) in order to get back my only choice was to take a 2nd class train car. The train was packed like sardines and a group of eunuchs were in there demanding rupees from each traveler, if they didn't pay they would assault them. I refused to pay and I'm big enough they squeezed on by. But when I got off the train they started to follow me so I utilized an item I always travel with "a Whistle" I blew the whistle and started talking to police and they left. Great videos. Thanks for sharing. Dan
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
hi Dan, that sucks big-time. The visa on arrival wouldn't have helped you in that case actually, because you have to apply online at least four days prior to your flight. As for trains, the 2nd class is fine, maybe you mean the 3rd class train? That's the one where people are totally crammed in, they don't seem to limit how many tickets they sell for that. But 2nd class you have your own seat and people who don't have a seat aren't allowed so it shouldn't be overcrowded. Glad it all worked out at least.

I would love if you could give me some input on my upcoming trip. We are going all over India, mainly in cities (Goa, udaipur, dehli) but also going to many forts and ‘safaris’. I’ve heard that in places such as Mumbai it’s not smart to walk the streets after dark, is this true? And/or are there any other possible ‘dangers’ we should watch out for as a family? For the most part we will be staying in nice hotels like the taj hotels and flying/ hiring a driver, so travel shouldn’t be an issue. Also, are there any cultural or lawful differences that might surprise us? Thanks

I have been to India 21 times. As a woman I can tell you that the stories of danger in India are greatly exaggerated. Just stay away from very quiet, dark areas, and obscure, out of the way villages. other questions...maybe you have done a video on it already is it best to carry cash or how do you manage the bulk of your money? where would be a good starting point for a solo woman... goa? im not a beach type but i like nature thanks
@deepkumarvarshney9647 жыл бұрын
starflower126 In Goa, you get various Atm machines but hard cash is also imp to carry but not much in bulk, whenever you need, withdraw cash from ATM.
@starflower9997 жыл бұрын
thanks. my friend said she travelled with a giant wad of cash. but that was many years ago. atm is better

I always carry earplugs, places get pretty noisy especially at night with car horns and barking dogs.

Is there a way to book nights in these cheap huts online or do you simply just book flights then look for a place to stay when you arrive?
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
You can book online for places to stay in India but not sure about the cheap beach huts. Probably the cheapest places don't have online booking. Just try a website and see what's available, for example I recommend this site: www.booking.com/s/01d2cbb6

It's near the top of my list. I wouldn't go there now since it's winter but who knows, maybe later this year.

I would love to travel more often, but can never find the partner willing to travel at the same time, to a specific country who can also take time off from their job. I don't want to travel alone either... Are their websites of people looking for travel buddies? Thanks. PS, I would like to see Peru in 2017.
@dieterfischer34327 жыл бұрын
I think there's a website called travel buddies. type it in google.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Yes, there's travbuddy.com and I've heard about some others but don't remember them off-hand. Also you can use tinder to meet people while you're traveling.

Hey hello,, what's the current expenses like in India just now compared to 3 years ago
@GabrielTravelerVideos Жыл бұрын
I'm back in India right now and posting videos. If you see some of those videos I'm including prices. Things haven't changed too much from a few years ago. As always it depends on where you go, popular places like Goa will be more expensive.

Usually when you book a flight, you will be told about the need for a visa, but I guess your friend didn't read the fine print 🤓

Hi Gabriel, I enjoyed the new videos and happy to see that the Internet has improved in your current location. I was curious if you had a link or name of the power adapter you referenced in your video? Thank you.

@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Right on, sounds amazing. Will you be working in Vietnam or doing other projects, or just traveling around the country?
@Edgesofearth7 жыл бұрын
- Working, unfortunately lol. Never did it before, but I'm going to give it a whirl! Pay isn't great - but the experience and time spent feeling the culture will be worth it! :D Any time off will be spent exploring, for sure!
