There's actually one more technique that you have forgotten and it's called U-Turning. This is the most advanced technique you will have to pull off, but it helps you out in the long run, It's similar to frogging, but you have to use the stick to go Down-Left or Down-Right, and tapping the breaking whilst's hopping. This will give you the most amount of turning, whist you still manage to keep the amount of speed and reserves without ever breaking to lose it. Also "frogging" doesn't do anything after a downhill in this game, it only helps when you're driving on a off-road section...

If i get hit by a clock, i just jump off the track if possible lol On first place the clock takes way too long to lose its effect, so jumping off a cliff is actually useful.

Your video is very instructive ! Though, you forgot one final technique that i use to turn even sharper in the air : U-Turn. How the U-Turn works ? When you jump off a ramp, if you hold the brake button (Square for PS4, X on Xbox and Y on Switch) and press diagonal down and left or right, you'll turn even sharper in the air, which is especially useful in certain tracks like Cortex Castle, and it even works on the ground (pretty useful in the U-Turn section on Turbo Track). I hope you understood how the U-Turn works, as it can be very useful on a lot of situations

You forgot one thing in the break section, you have to hold down too so you don't fly off with your momentum while on the air. This way you can totally control where you go.

You missed to explain that there are several level II blue fire turbo pads, i.e. the one before the finish line in Hyper Spaceway or the one you access through a ramp in Twilight Ct. You can catch and keep the other blue fires on those tracks but if you miss the level II and someone else does take and keep them, you'll see how they fly right past you even with your blue flames pumping out of your exhaust.

I've been playing CTR (Nitro Fueled, to be clear- never played the original) for a while now, and I gotta say, I do think I'm getting better at the game the more I play. I still need to work at drifting and frogging and the like more, but honestly, I do feel like I'm improving. I'm learning the shortcuts, I'm way better at drifting now than I was at the start... I am getting better. But what always kills me in races is getting bombarded with items in a decent spot near the start of the race and never being able to catch up. But hey, I'm beating Tropy's times slowly but surely, so that's gotta mean something... Right? But yeah, I appreciate these kinds of videos because they're helpful for a dork like me who is still learning. Thank you for doing this kind of thing.

Nice video man but might want to update this to note that you gave to let go of X while doing a u-turn, otherwise you will lose USF really quickly. Additionally, you need to make sure you are holding both down and the direction you want to u-turn in, at least for any jumps with significant height, otherwise your forward momentum will carry you forward and you won’t get a proper good turn. This is used for the hairpin turn in Electron Avenue after the blue tunnel for example. You can also see it in your video at 5:09, you jump over the tires but your forward momentum continues slightly before the u-turn kicks in and your kart actually turns properly.

I use frogging to get across grass and dirt but I easily catch up to lunatics that hop like ripper roo on a jackhammer whilst I drive normally. I've yet to be beaten by someone using the classic frogging techniques on dips and straights.

Because froggying doesn't give any speed, unlike drift boosting. It is best used just to maintain your speed when you can't drift, like in the tight loops near the end of hyper spaceway, or the aforementioned grass.

I'd say I'm somewhat decent at playing Nitro Fueled and have been starting to understand how reserves and flames work yet it was until I watched this specific video that I now can find myself holding my boosts and USF's for much longer than before now that I have a bit more clear understanding on how the reserves actually work. Most videos I've watched have basically explained it in the sense of "Just keep boosting to keep your reserves up" which while is true, they however kind of skip over the detail that you mentioned of keeping your boosts in the perfect margin rather than just keep boosting. Before I would find myself loosing my boosts a lot without really knowing why but now that I've been aiming to time by boosts mostly perfectly, I've been able to hold boosts pretty well for a lot of tracks. So overall I'd say this is a pretty good vid. :)

There are definitely differences in the speeds you get from different USF ramps. Try the one in Thunderstruck right before the starting line, and after that try the ramp towards the middle of the same track, you should be able to notice the difference (I believe ramps are coded to give different speeds)

Anyone ever get violent fire? It can only be obtain using an aka aka mask and a super boost pad. It is crazy fast. Like holy shit speed. To maintain it you need have reserves and attack other players. Nobody who is decent will ever get it because they're in first and don't attack other players.

@@VTuberTeej It's easier to power slide in a straight line with advanced characters as they turn less. The tip is that as soon as you start to slide, you hold the opposite direction. I'd recommend time trials when you want to improve your racing.
