Thanks for the post. The lifecycle information is good to know. I am new to owning plants and did not expect to get gnats. I am growing basil, celery and bell pepper so I don't want to use chemicals (or eat chemicals). I will be trying these suggestions.

"Mosquito bits" was the only thing that worked for me. Once you get rid of them (2-3 weeks) Then I use just a little bit of Mosq bits for every watering. No more gnats. Don't let there be any moist things be around without the treatment. Including the bottom trays of bottom watering systems.Use fast draining potting mixes, let them nearly fully dry before another watering. Letting it fully dry will also prevent root rot.

Thanks for all the tips! Definitely going to try mosquito bits if they come around again!

Ive been dealingbwith a gnat infestation since May 2023 & Again From October 2023 to the present day in my apartment. My landlord has had pest control spray but it hasnt been resolved. My whole building apartment is still filled with gnats & all my neighbors & I have been bothered & cannot sleep. What should I do, they're everywhere.

I’m having the same issue it’s frustrating. My apt complex overwaters all the plants outside

my problem is that I have fungus gnats but I don't have any plants. They seem to just be around sinks and resting on the ceiling.

Haha darn it! They might be fruit flies? If you have any fruit out, that may the culprit

@@tenneyplants Hello. : ) they are not fruit flies because they will actually ignore fruit. I put banana slices in a bowl with some vinegar trying to get them to group up so I can spray. They completely ignored it. They seem to love any kind of gentle moisture, but nothing really wet. Thankfully after 2 weeks now they have mostly died out.

@@YukoValis they are psychodidae, drain flies, also known as sink flies filter flies sewer flies and sewer gnats. To get rid of them clean your sink and use a brush on the inside of the pipe from your sink, or pour boiling water down the drain twice a week. You can use vinegar also, some people say baking soda or a commercial drain cleaner. They lay their eggs inside the drain pipe.

@@nicoleperron3315 odd enough they weren't drain flies either. They tended to live on the ceiling more than near the sink. Eventually they all died. we found some rotten produce they were breeding from. once we got rid of that they didn't come back after they all died. Still thank you.

Ignore the people saying they’re not fungus flies. You can have no plants and they could be coming in from outside if you have windows or doors open
