Avoid butters. Minimize twist outs and stretched styles. That made the difference for me. You hit the nail on the head with the consistent cleansing + hydrating. However, butters make cleansing + hydrating difficult because they coat the hair, buildup and block moisture. They also cause the individual strands to repel one another = Frizz. Since I stopped using products with Shea, mango, coconut oil and cocoa butter ingredients, my strands are shinier, smoother, softer, more elastic, clump better and have a silkier texture. I avoid Sheamoisture deep conditioners and stylers for that reason. Twist outs and stretched styles can also mat the roots and cause split ends. Since I got my first DevaCurl cut five months ago and have been wearing wash n’ gos (washing once a week) I experience zero root frizz, zero single strand knots, less shedding and minimal split ends. My hair is holding moisture better from root to tip. With stretched styles, my hair was constantly in a crisis on wash day. I also stick to all water-based products: leave-ins (Keracare Natural Textures) moisturizing creams (Qhemet Burdock cream) and seal with an aloe-based and water soluble gel (UFD or Kinky-Curly). No oils to seal. Wetting and conditioning the hair often without butters and heavy oils helps it find its natural curl pattern so that it clumps without tangling or frizz.

Can you recommend some shea butter free deep conditioners please? I'd love to test your theory. I stopped using whipped shea butter years ago and noticed an immediate improvement in my hair, but SheaMoisture JBCO masque has been my favorite for years but I've been looking for an alternative.
@minimalassembly78936 жыл бұрын
They are hard to find, but I have two that I rotate. One is Matrix Biolage Conditioning Balm (Ulta), which is silicone-free and aloe-based. The second is Qhemet Amla Olive heavy cream (Sephora and local), which is a heavy duty moisturizer and a deep conditioner. It is oil-based, but the oils (olive, castor) draw rather than repel water. I alternate or mix the two together. Two other ones are Alikay Naturals Honey Sage (Target) and Mielle Organics Babassu oil (Target, Sally’s) which are both more strengthening than moisturizing. Some people use DevaCurl One Condition (original at Ulta) as a deep conditioner, including my stylist. If I discover more, I’ll share.
@minimalassembly78936 жыл бұрын
The Mielle actually has murumuru butter, so I wouldn’t use that.

Your comment was like confirmation... regular WNGs (and weekly DCs) helped a ton in the moisture dept. I felt like I started retaining length like crazy and my definition really popped because it never had a chance to dry out and create friction. I didn't think Type 4 hair could do it, but Dickey from HairRules put me on game about doing them daily; within a week I saw a positive difference. I had to cut it back to twice weekly though, because... the way my schedule is set up... 😂

Frizzy roots? Use a denman brush lengthwise in small sections. It smooths the surface texture like magic!
@kiki15734 жыл бұрын
The denman rips my hair out no matter how gentle I am with it. Then I learned it’s not even a detangling brush, it’s a styling tool. My curls clump better when I use it for that tho
@shauniebnaturalista66724 жыл бұрын
@@kiki1573 it does take out a lot of hair. However, my hair is ridiculously thick and getting those weak/shed hairs out really saves my existing hair, stimulates my scalp and promotes growth.

ShaunieBNaturalista I have pretty frizzy type 3c-ish hair and the denman brush just makes it frizzier for some reason? would you know why or have any other brush recommendations
@shauniebnaturalista66724 жыл бұрын
@@a.bby4441 I don't use a lot of different tools. I also don't know your hair. However, when my hair is super frizzy it's because it's thirsty from the inside out. Try adding Olive, avocado or grapeseed oil to your deep conditioner and use the Denman brush while the conditioner/oil is in your hair. That's what tames my frizz. I am Type 4, however and my hair is extremely thirsty so it can handle all of that conditioner and oil.

Regularly clarifiers followed by a moisturising shampoo helps. You have to get into a regimen and use the right type of product. I never used to think that it mattered what shampoo you used till I started paying more attention to licensed cosmotologists as you say in the USA, that specialise in kinky coily hair. I'm loving this no oils no butter regimen. They are not against using them, just not raw, and further down the ingredients list in products.

Yes ma'am baking soda, can also be used as a natural shampoo when mixed with the right ratio of water. Followed by two vinegar rinses. Remember, back in the old days there was no shampoo made for you to buy. So they made there on. Great video!

I think defining curls from the root helps me a lot with frizzy roots because the curls stay put in their curl families and last longer throughout the week. I notice when I don't do this the roots are messier like the hairs aren't in their clumps. I make sure wash day is well done where I finger coil/smooth the roots in their clumps if that makes sense?

Thanks for the tips. I've been struggling lately with my frizzy roots. I did noticed I was getting lazy and not having enough time to keep my hair regimen. I also started using less product because it would cause flakes. At a time, I could use a lot of product and wash and deep condition every two weeks. Now I have to wash before I add a conditioner because of build up. I have type 4 high porosity hair and now it can really lose moisture quick. Your video has inspired me to keep going and commit to my hair regime, because I have been feeling defeated every time I fix it.

I once used yogurt on one of my wigs. I had worn it for like 4 months straight (of course taking it off every other night but it was my hairstyle for that long) & it went from silky to frizzy. It still looked nice but it got frizzy really quickly even after straightening & brushing. I tried boiling it, deep conditioning it & other stuff but it still kept getting frizzy. And one day I saw yogurt in my fridge & randomly decided to put it on the wig. It actually made it a lot less frizzy. I only had to brush my hair out once at work as opposed to like five times. And I didn't have to straighten for a week when I usually had to straighten it almost everyday. So I think I might give the Cherry Lola method a try.

My roots have been frizzy and I thought it was because my hair my had changed texture a little bit due to straightening and the new growth is my actual texture. But I don’t straighten much and I’ve never experienced that before. Now I think it’s because I experienced a lot of shedding and now it’s stopped. So my roots are just thicker than the length of my hair.

I LOVE your hair this is #goals THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! for me I have taken a lot of your tips and applied them I can see the results in about 65% of my hair my curls are uniform and not so frizzy the front of my hair has looser curls so it’s not quite where I want it nor are my roots. I m always so upset I see girls grown out there hair and they cut off the ends and then they have all these beautiful curls. I m so confused lol how is it that I have all these curls from about half way down BUT fizz at the roots...😢 so I ran down what I do today. I am consistent with my shampoo I do change up my conditioners I love to cocktail honey, plain full fat yogurt and whatever deep conditioner I have around I ll mix them up I Pre poo and finger de tangle with a mix of aloe Vera juice tea tree oil, argan oil and jojoba oil I shake it up spay it in and massage I even stopped scratching my scalp I figured I was causing trauma to the skin so my hair has no curl definition (I am a HUGE scalp scratcher this IS SO tough for me lol) then I wash my hair twice once a week to make sure it’s clean clean, deep condition with indirect heat for 30-60 minutes. I don’t use combs or brushes at all on my hair I finger detangle. I wear protective styles flat twist to keep the moisture close to my head wrap my hair in silk & satin then a wig cap when I wear my wigs . I have done the cherry Lola treatment a couple of times, once a month. I pick a week to add extra time for the aztec clay hair mask also yet I STILL have frizz it has been like 2 years of this VIP treatment! 🤔🤔😡 SO I decided to watch your video again. I KNOW what I am MISSING: moisturizing my ROOTS two or more times a week! 💁🏾♀️🎉 when I put my hair in my flat twist at night I may put some oil on my scalp when it feels like it’s dry but I do not spray any type of water or any type of moisturizer on my scalp/roots so the oil is probably just sitting on my hair and not penetrating my hair. It would seem the roots are not actually getting any moisture that it needs from water or aloe juice because I don’t take the time to put it there frequently! 🤡🤦🏾♀️ so I am going to try to implement your method of spraying my hair 2 to 3 times a week with the same Aloe Vera pre poo that I use when I wash! WISH ME LUCK LOL

@powerinyourcurl I transitioned over 2 years ago when I did a big chop. Now my hair is at bra strap length yay!!!! However, I got no definition on my roots, my ends are I think a 3b/3c type. But my roots have no curl pattern and my hair gets super frizzy. I rely heavily on perm rod sets because I can not get any definition with a wash and go. Would this treatment help me to get definition on my roots? I’m very frustrated, I don’t know what else to use on my hair. I would love to do a wash and go but it just does not look good. Any advice would be appreciated. Help!!!

My hair gets so frizzy and shrinks during summer time my hair can't hold any style I also have fine low density hair so that may be part of the reason🤦🏿♀️

your videos are super informative. so many thanks. my hair seems similar to yours. I went natural in 2010. I'm still floundering, but hair at its longest, yet a lot is split. please help. I would make appt. with you because I want butt length hair now.😊 moisture x 3 a day is probably what I need

I thot the root is something that is below the scalp!and above the scalp so I was confused.Initially I thot split ends are the frizz.. Can you show us a frizz hair root

I just need something to fix my hair again, ever since I cute my hair back in 2018 my hair started to get a little thin n frizzy it takes forever to grow my hair is up my shoulders, yikes. Anyone know how to treat it?

My hair is frizzy all through lol. I can never get it to curl up. I've just given up and let it do whatever it wants😅

Same. My hair goes down to my butt but I keep it in a bun 90% of the time because its just a frizzy mess when I try to wear it down with barely any definition. I'm always tempted to just cut it all off again having a TWA was waay simpler and easy to me
