Thank you! I've discovered a big infestation in my butter lettuce and now feel empowered to fix it!

I'm Hoping iHarvest will give us a $200 discount like Gardyn has. This being the holiday season, I'll wait & see if they do. Both companies' hydroponics systems are really expensive.

I grow in aeroponics. I was shipped plants from a nursery across the country. I was sent both spider mites and aphids. I had to shut my indoor garden down for 4 months to make sure they all died before this I spent all types of money on very harsh chemicals while you would see a huge drop in population of bugs u would never get 100% of them .
@plant4table10 ай бұрын
Yeah, I had to shut everything down and restarted twice in the past 3 years because they just wouldn't die.

same thing happened to me. But I have very small unit. SO annoying. Don't know how the bugs got there.

Gnats I can deal with but aphid is my biggest nightmare. I know how I got them. One time, I saw aphids on my roses outdoor. I ofcourse picked them out and then sprayed my rose. Then I walked by my hydroponic garden, bam, that was all it took. What I should have done was burning my clothes, jumping into the shower immediately before going anywhere near my indoor garden. 😒😵😮💨.

Thank you for sharing! I didn't quite follow the dish soap part. Can we just use neem oil? If so, what's the ratio?
@plant4table Жыл бұрын
I use neem oil according to the label instruction. The dish soap is just to make it stick to the leaves. For every 16 oz, i use 1 or 2 drops of soap.

@@plant4table Got it! When I used to do painting, we’re taught to add a little bit of detergent to make the paint more even and stick to the paper. It’s the same reason but I will use natural one instead. Thank you so much!

Hey! Love the info in all of your videos, but I had a quick question. We haven’t seen any bugs in our gardyn, but have noticed a white fuss on two pods. The plants are still growing (barely 4 about weeks in since we got it). The sprouts and plants on these pods look healthy, but I’m concerned it’s mold growing. Have you experienced this? Should I address it or is this part of the process? Not sure if the Gardyn app will tell me if mold is growing if so..
@plant4table3 жыл бұрын
Without seeing a photo, I can't say for sure what it is. If it seems to grow from the bottom of the plants, those white tiny fussy thing might be air roots. They look like a tiny piece of white fussy hair and they are totally normal. You can take a photo and post it in the Gardyner group on FB. Gardyn and members will tell you what it is.

I have a major problem with root aphids, those are worst cuz they hide in the soil and you don’t really see them unless you dig for them .. any suggestion for that? Thanks :)
@plant4table3 жыл бұрын
I would try to spray the plants with mixture of water, neem oil and couple drop of soap. Depends on what type of plants you are growing outdoor, just follow the direction on the package for the measurements. Spray the mixture when the sun is almost down or very early in the morning to prevent the leaves from burning. Also spray the soil around the roots with the solution and hopefully it can help to control them. I spray my roses every 2 weeks in the spring and summer with the same solution and it seems to keep the pests at bay. I have never personally experienced root aphids, knock on wood. Good luck!

Does the neem oil make the leaves of your plants sticky? I had this issue when I used it to treats an infestation in some potted house plants.
@plant4table2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it tends to get sticky. And if you use neem oil on outdoor plants, the leaves can get burned if you apply it while the sun is too hot. I either apply very early in the morning, or in the evening when the sun is not harsh.

did the neem oil really work ?
@plant4table Жыл бұрын
It does work to certain extend. It does not get rid of them all if you have too many of them and they lay eggs inside of the equiments, which neem oil can not get to. I ended up getting rid of all my plants, wash up and waited 4 weeks before restarting a new garden. No more aphids, knock on wood. Neem oil works wonder for my outdoor garden though.

Does this still work if we're not using a growing medium? I have an Aerogarden with just water (and liquid plant food). Does this work on regular gnats too?
@plant4table3 жыл бұрын
You can drop some 3% hydrogen preroxide into the resevoir to get rid of fungus gnat larvae. Therefore, it works without grow medium. I recommend using a very small amount, 1-2 teaspoon per gallon. Make sure to use the 3% one, not the concentrated. Start off with 1 teaspoon to see how your plants react, then increase to 2. Combine this method with the yellow sticky trap should work wonderfully. If I gotta pick between gnat and aphids, I would rather to have gnats. Aphid is a much worse headache. Good luck.
@houseofschenck62303 жыл бұрын
@@plant4table Thanks! I did a hydrogen peroxide and water mixture in a spray bottle so I could spread the underside of the basil leaves. They don't seem to care about thyme, sage, savory, or dill.

:( It is frustrating. If they are out of control, best way is to start over after at least 2 weeks. I haven't gotten any in 2 years.
