I got my first set of canna bulbs ever this year, planted them and was so proud of how big theyve gotten. Ironically, this was the first year I learned what a Japanese beetle was

I was totally plagued with Japanese beetles. I was at the point of just cutting down my rose bush. As a last effort I sprayed hornet spray all over the bush. Many died and many flew away. The leaves and blooms that were still intact were never attacked again by the beetles and the spray did not damage the plant. Just wanted to share.

One of my neighbors with 7 kids used to pay them per beetle captured. The extra spending money kept them busy during summer vacation and helped keep the beetle population down.

I had a raspberry patch at my old house that would just be covered with japanese beetles. One year I got chickens and they loved to take dust baths in the middle of the patch. They also ate the beetles/larvae too. I didn't have nearly the amount of trouble with the beetles I had in prior years.

I just put the beetle lures and the plastic fin in an oil funnel that sits in a five gallon bucket. Put a couple in the yard, add a few drops of dish soap to prevent mosquitos, let them fill with rain water, and dump them out after a while into the compost pile, the reset. I attract hundreds, but also kill that many with zero effort and my plants seem a bit better for it as we get crushed by them if you dont do some form of control.

I fill my 2 gallon sprayer with water and add a cup of dish soap and spray them. It isn't a preventative but it does kill them. It beats picking them one at a time. I use the traps as well. Some say not to but each year I have fewer of them to content with.

Insecticide Sprays on the market could be toxic to organic gardens. I’m hesitant to use anything toxic. I’ve heard that neem oil works really well on adults.

I live between 2 corn fields and have millions of them. They are killing my apple tree, yes I do spray the tree and they just come back in about 3 days. The spray I use says I can only spray every 4 to 6 weeks. I have chickens that roam free but will not eat them. HELP what can I else do?

I go to home depot or big box hardware store and I get this product called specide bug killer granlus and it takes them away very fast, put it on the ground win spring, not only does it take out Japanese beetles, but ants, fleas ticks, grubs, and other pests as well This product has many differnt ways to put it down using the spedder depening on how you want to kill the certian bug. I use it p how it says to kill out grubs. Its a beast of a product I like that it kills on contact and that it get the issue at the soruce. The other thing I use is a spray called sevin. It is a spray thats connects to a hose, and i put it in the trees. Works great to get them to kill them off and it works to proctect the tree all season long from them comming. Lsaved my tree twice with this combo, so last year I did it before they came, and it worked did not get any detritive bugs

How in the world are you going to pick up Japanese beetles you can't catch them also the bucket of water does not work either they don't fall into the water
@renm4163
@renm4163 8 жыл бұрын
You can catch them. They are less mobile in the mornings. I scoot them off the leaves with my hand while holding a cup of soapy water under so they fall right in. Most others fall off my tree then and I get them off the ground and put them in the cup of water.

TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT... This is how I FINALLLLLLLY got rid of them... (copied from another post related to this subject...) Problem related to: Cherry trees, Sorbus, Raspberry bushes and Grapes. Infestation state: Devastating, tens of beetles per branch. Whole foliage destroyed in 2 weeks! (Since 3 years) Location: Southern Québec I tried: Traps --> They simply attract more of them, stink and cost a lot. Plus, they are ugly and reveal to the world that you are under attack and suggest your neighbors that you are the source of this plague. Soap preparations --> What a joke!!!? Garlic, Cedar, Rheum... --> They seemed to love it! Hand picking --> For tall trees... You must be kidding, right! It is simply dangerous and non realistic unless you have an army of slaves to do it. The morning tree shake --> it worked, but the process is very annoying not to mention that you receive a rain of dejection on your head while doing it... disgusting. Hand picking is required. A lot of them fly elsewhere (including all over yourself) and come back the next day. Nematodes --> even if applied appropriately, still waiting for results. No effect on beetles coming from my neighbors. (they are expensive too) Neem oil --> Effect very hard to quantify... Beetles are still eating everything later in the season. White geranium --> In fact, it simply, temporarily, paralyzes them... They seem to enjoy more the plants cited before in this post. As I said, take it or leave it... I will not debate it. This is how I got rid of them. I hate chemical solutions, my fruit harvest is lost for this year... it's annoying but I am tired of being told that these "natural" solutions work and to spend money and TIIIIIIME on this issue!!! The verified and very rapid solution: Malathion 50% solution, mixed and sprayed according to instructions for beetles. THEY ARE GONE!!! simply agonizing for a few minutes, what a satisfaction!!!! Please take note that I am not given any money for this... I will not use this product if not required next year. I want to harvest my fruits entirely free of pesticide. I tried... really!

You probably mean soybean beetles. They look almost exactly like our lady beetle friends
@joyceobeys6818

I'm on the winning side yes whatever they are, it’s a bunch of red bugs with red dots exactly like a lady bug and so so many of them are eating the leaves so there are no leaves left on everything. I’ve been smashing them and fly swatting them. They are on my nerves. I’m against poisons and we eat all organic but no one else gardens around here and so they all come to our yard which is like a tropical jungle here. Because they killed a whole plant in the outer court, I put wasp spray on them there and killed many of them. The Japanese beetles are going for the kiwi, grapes and wisteria mostly, and some evening primrose. Those lady bug looking things are eating mostly my specialty herbs and the squash. I don’t see much on the passionflower or the other many plants n medicinal herbs called weeds. Something got the wild lettuce but I didn’t see beetles or any bugs on it. What is funny is that the sunflowers are all around 15 foot tall and they went to one leaf on the bottom and ate it but left the rest of them alone. The Japanese beetles here like to be way up in the air so I figured they would not eat the small plants or leaves but they also go to a few bottom plants n herbs, they must go to the different restaurants in the yard at night. I just wish I could charge them for the meals!

Thomas Jefferson They are red with black dots, which is what everyone called lady bugs. The orange n yellow ones that we had in Michigan they called Asian lady bugs, were definitely carnivorous and they bit us. We killed them Asian bugs quickly! They needed to eat the bugs...not us! So whatever they are that look exactly like lady bugs are eating my plants to death. I call them lady bugs because that’s exactly without a doubt what they look like. So I also call them dead!
@imonthewinningside8281
@imonthewinningside8281 5 жыл бұрын
@@joyceobeys6818 I guess it could be lady bugs, I never researched if they like some salad with their meat! Japanese beetles.... Epsom salts sprinkled liberally over the ground where they lay their eggs will kill the larvae. Look up their laying cycles. It's also very good for your crops. For the thieving stinkers eating my grapes, berries, cannas and ornamental sweet potatoes, I bought malathion (I think) and POISONED!! them! They gone! I'll also admit I saw a dead honey bee afterwards......
