DIY How to exterior mouse control . Final softbait, repellex, bell labs provoke attractant, ez klean
Controlling mice can be a difficult task. It's important to have a general understanding of the type of rodent you're dealing with. In this episode we talk about tips and tricks for exterior mouse control.
In todays episode I show you how to setup RBS ez-klean stations with Final Softbait and bell labs provoke attractants. There is a right way and wrong way to setup exterior mouse stations.
It's important to remember to setup the traps with the entry and exit points parallel to the walls. It's my personal preference not to touch the RBS bait stations with my hand. I always use gloves when handling the stations.
I use a product called repellex as a mouse repellent. Its designed to alter the environment and push the mice away from where you apply the repellent. I like to use repellex because it's an organic product with the primary active ingredient made out of castor oil. This makes it safe to apply around kids, dogs and cats etc..
The traps should be setup every 15 to 30 feet. It's important to remember that mice are nibblers and will not sit and eat a huge meal. That means it's important to setup multiple bait stations to provide the mice with plenty of opportunities to eat.
Once the stations have been setup and put out throughout the area its important to remove excess landscaping debris. I also recommend recording and creating a site map using google.com/maps. That way you don't forget where you setup the traps. I do my best to conceal the traps so they're not super visible.

This is the best video on this subject I've ever seen. I'm the manager of an apartment community at which has had some mice getting in the apartments. My pest control company used exterior bait stations and it worked like a charm. Now, after living here for ions with nary a rodent, I'm suddenly seeing mouse droppings in my own home. Thank you for such a great video to help me create a similar set up to the pest control company. Thanks so much (from a fellow ginger)!

Totally different question for you. I have a client whose blades are not as green as his neighbors however he has the most grass per square foot than any other lawn around. I fertilizer it 6 times a year. He has a watering system. I have pulled soil samples and adjusted it with the recommended fertilizer with IRON three times and NO CHANGE! Client is in northern Indiana.

BigTill happy to help out. That problem will depend on a few things; 1. the type of grass they have, some species are not dark species and the maximum color you get is the native color the grass is. 2. soil ph 3. micro nutrients. Are you aware of the native overall PH of the soil and the cec's present? You may have an imbalance of nutrients that needs correcting.

I don't like repelling in the same yard as bait stations. You can counteract the bait which draws the pests in and a repellent which pushes the pests away. The principal is like acid and base. I have only been at it for a short time and would love your feed back.

My dad told me they don't like fiberglass and I have seen mice nests made of small pieces fiberglass insulation bats. I use peanut butter in traditional traps with good success. My question is will old rancid peanut butter work as well as fresh? Thanks for the video.
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 5 жыл бұрын
I prefer to use a brillo pad over fiberglass but the fiberglass does help. Peanut butter is a great tool to use for baiting. I find fresh peanut butter works the best. We clean the traps every 90 days and re apply peanut butter.

Thank you for such a very helpful video. I can do all that you recommend but what happens to the rats? Will I find them dead in the yard? I have 2 German Shepherds-will they eat them or if they eat them will it be harmful?
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. the concern is real, they can die anywhere. If the rat is fresh then there can be some contamination. if that's your primary concern you'll want the large wire traps and load them with fruits and vegetables to trap them.

Great information and details, I have the intention of starting slowly a rodent catching service, I will not be of any competition to you, I'm in Montreal region. My main question would be, as you know time are difficult, how do you prevent from having your traps or baits station being stolen, disappearing or missing? either by the property owners or intruders, do you set a written contract with the number of items you are installing and the replacement value if stolen, Thanks for your help, Phil

great question. as a seperate piece you can by rat bait station anchors. you drill a small hole through the bottom of the unit and then the anchor goes through the inside and is hammered about 1ft into the ground. acts like a drywall anchor. not super easy to pull out without breaking the station.

How effective is Repellex granular product for preventing gophers in a yard? Or is the product a waste of money and time.
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 5 жыл бұрын
Here's my 2 cents. I've seen it work in specific regions. The problem I have with gopher control in conjunction with any type of repellent is the fact that gophers are digging underground. The repellents might work there way down 2" at best IMO. If you are on a lot that is less than .2 of an acre I would consider it and it's worked ok for us over the past 10 years. I've had the best control using sticknine gopher bait.

Thanks for the video. We have a community garden, and our main concern with the poisons is that wildlife will eat the dead rats and ingest the poison themselves. We've been using Rat X for that reason, which is supposed to affect just rodents. What is your opinion on this?
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja Жыл бұрын
I feel like there's always a possibility of translocation with these types of products. especially if the dead animal is fresh. the final soft bait is an aggressive product, but i do know it runs some risks especially if animals like dogs eat the bait itself. with your concerns I would stay where your at.

P and LG... just found this video! Love it! I noticed the comments are a year old. Hope you're still checking your comments for this video. I live in Southeast Texas where fire ants are a big problem. I tried to set up a catch a live trap for a rat I saw run under my house. I am on pier and beam. Most people up north don't even know what that is. I'm looking into getting skirting right now for the outside of my home. I went through hurricane Harvey and it's been real rough trying to get situated also after Dad passed during covid. I am on my own and have to pay for every little thing done to my home. So I set out a rat live trap, but if you put anything in there other than are, it gets completely overrun with fire ants. I put the trap on top of a plastic wash tub, about 24 in across. I made sure the outside was real clean and then I rubbed oil all over it to make it to Slippery for the ants. I have gotten no bites, so I may go ahead and order the stuff you recommend, or I may try the gentleman's suggestion of strawberry jelly and a mixture of peanut butter or something else. I think I'll stick a live trap under there also. Any suggestions for people who are dealing with ants that get into and on to the traps? The trouble is for a single older woman, it needs to be very simple and easy to put together. I was thinking of fastening the regular large rat trap to something and then loaded up with something yummy. But again... The ants! Thanks for any ideas.
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja Жыл бұрын
Hi there. my only suggestion is to fill the rim of the tub you are using with water. makes it difficult for them. other than that you may need to resort to insecticide to help target the ants. you're on the right track. unfortunately sometimes mother nature wins. Rats are so stinkin smart as well. makes it very difficult at times.

@catherinesteigerwald1659
@catherinesteigerwald1659 Жыл бұрын
@@pestandlawnginja thanks for the tip, but I already did that too. I not only filled the rim with water but I greased the entire outside Above the Rim so if they made it past the water they'd still have to go up a slippery side. It did work well. You should see what I had to do for catching raccoons and feral cats! I had to make a moat inside of a large kiddie pool. I had to build it up in the Middle with cement blocks and place the trap on top of that. Then I had to bait it and fill the entire pool with water just to slightly below the Trap level. I can't believe I have to do all of this because of the fire ants! It worked perfectly though and I've caught two raccoons with no ants! I'm ordering 100% orange oil and when I get it I'm going to go outside and have a lot of fun killing fire ants. Have a lot of videos on KZbin and destroying fire ants with orange oil, water and a squeeze of dish liquid. Thanks for your suggestion. Swell video..😉

commonly charge $25 per bait station as a setup and lease charge on the first service. that includes putting the bait in the box. Then monthly or bi-monthly (every other month) at your descretion a $3-$4 replace bait charge per station to disgard and replace the bait. The bait should easily last 60 days but we also apply a repellent throughout the yard. You'll have a minimum $55 fee plus the rebait fee.

Any tips on how to deter the mice out of my home? The mice have created a few holes as if they are under my house and chewing their way up. I want to block the holes but I'm scared they may be in the walls and I don't want to trap them inside of my house. (The exterior of my home was supposedly blocked off by a pest control company, I feel that they may have trapped some mice down in the crawl space and now they are trying to find a way out by chewing their way up into my house)

Patience and a lot of it. You’ll need to find the exact entry and exit points. Then exclude them. Took me 6 months in my own home and it turned out to be a fake conduit that appeared to be going into my concrete but really wasn’t 😅

@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 5 жыл бұрын
No pushback from bird lovers. I'm comfortable with the longitudinal studies performed by bell labs to keep our other animals safe. The poisons cause dehydration to the animal and the active ingredient is absorbed and used up quickly within the rodent. There are different approaches. For people concerned with secondary kills I use live bait traps. This allows the home owner to catch and release at there discretion.

man o man that's frustrating. sounds like the mouse populations are outta control. I would take a similar approach as in the video. just remember that mice are nibblers. the more available food you offer the better the chances are of you getting them. I would use a combination of live traps, ie a bucket with water in it and a rolling device, and these bait boxes. you can consult youtube on how to make the live traps on your own and save a ton of money.

Here if its sufficiently rural with farm and large populations it becomes a harborage site, I can double gen blocks (8 per station) our boxes are nearly identical but with 4 posts and in some areas be bone dry within a week or two, then it just becomes a home. Hey Ginga - what would your plan of attack be for what I believe is the last surviving rat in our garage that is freaking smart. Tried baits and traps, no dice. It chews a hole in the drywall, cover the hole and chews another hole. opened up a 10 foot strip at the bottom of the wall and placed glue strips then covered the strip with a 2x10. It chewed up the drywall up and over the board.' I even drilled a hole in the board and blew the sulphur smoke crap in there too. Any suggestions of any way to attract it to it's demise???
@pestandlawnginja

Get a rat trap and load it with fruits and vegetables. Leave it for at least a week or two. Deep clean everything else around it so there's no chance of other food. Its possible the rat is using the garage as a place to sleep and a place to nest. Try and find all entry and exit point surrounding the house and plug them up.

The safety data sheet says "Ecotoxicity Effects: This product is extremely toxic to fish, birds and other wildlife. It always a posibility but not probable in my opinion. the scents and general taste doesn't target the other species. The animal would have to be the size of a rat or smaller to navigate through the box to the bait. hope that helps.
