The only reason they suggest don’t use without a skimmer is because it will deplete the oxygen in the water column so you at least need to have a bubbler put in oxygen back in

I've had a red slime epidemic in my soft coral tank. I went from a sand bottom to a bare bottom tank and the issue disappeared with the sand. My tank looks beautiful now.

Hello, recently found you and I find all your videos super informative. I have always been a freshwater tank keeper and have a 3,500 gallon Koi pond in my garden. I am interested in dipping into the saltwater world but am a bit timid about the care and cost. Been doing research on and off for the past couple years. Was thinking of maybe starting off with a Nano tank, but hear they can be more difficult to care for due to their smallness? -Cheers from Seattle!😊

Nano Tanks are harder to get stable but easier to fix if something is out of wack. A large tank is more stable by default but if something is not right is is harder and takes longer to fix than a nano. If you are new and want to try it out go with a nano. I did and now it is used as my extra frag tank.

Cyano is not an algae..... it is a photosynthetic prokaryotic bacteria.

Hello I've been following your videos and find each very informative. I currently have a huge cyano problem in my tank, which I was treating as diatoms at first. I read that it could be caused by what you said in this video about parameters being out of whack, namely nitrates and phosphates. My aquarium is 75 g. and 10 months old with not many corals yet. Should I still aim for nitrates at 10 ppm considering I only have a few corals?

You have any tips on opening up gonis. I have one that the tentacles just barley come out my dkh stays from 8-8.5 mag is at 1500 and my calcium is 440 nitrates are 15 phosphate.02. It just barley opens and it’s not getting blasted by flow ether it’s in the same area as my hammers and frog spawns.

are you sure it's not a bernardpora? Basically a short polyp goni
@bryanmoreno71408 ай бұрын
@@dominicksorrento108 no I’m sure it’s Goni when I first bought it it was in my tank perfectly fine I upgraded about 2 months ago and now it just doesn’t fully extend before polyps we’re maybe an inch inch and a half long and now there about half that

Do an ICP test. My manganese was low. Once I started dosing it, the tentacles started to stretch out

@@Dyr0s thanks I really appreciate that will be the first thing I’ll do tomorrow hopefully it’s that and not that it’s not going to make it
@Dyr0s8 ай бұрын
@@bryanmoreno7140I believe it’ll show low on the test regardless. Do you do frequent water changes?

I prefer to use coral snow mixed with mixed with MB7 and that will help out compete the Cyano bacteria and the flocculant nature of coral snow really cleans the water column.

Have you tried Dr. Tims cyanobacteria treatment prescription using re-fresh and waste-away, I did the chemiclean but it left dark rusty colored stuff in the sand bed, so now I'm doing the Dr. Tims method, the chemiclean was very hard on my LPS corals they retracted during treatment I had sps to they didn't like it either. and I lost a tang he developed some fin rot during treatment of chemiclean. I was previously siphoning it out but just kept comming back. So far my corals are responding a lot better with Dr. Tims method.

Are my nutrients out of whack If I have 3.0 phosphates?
@kevin83605 ай бұрын
Yes… ideally you want them below 0.1 There’s some debate… but a nitrate of 3-20 is okay, and a phosphate of 0.01-0.1
