They hide inside the walls, Once one person in an apartment brings them in, good chance everyone will eventually get them. Lets face it, people are slobs. These things have been evolving for 300 million years to screw with us. Their favorite spot in under /inside a stove, fridge inside toaster ovens. cluttered area's. They eat anything organic - paper, wood, pet waste, kitchen grease, dog hair, fingernail clippings. Save jars and coat the inside with canola oil, vaseline etc, the video with canola oil seems to be good, the jars with curved edges would be ideal. I once found a computer infested with them, they got into the cdrom drive thru tiny pinholes in the power connector... they made so much droppings it was like a sewage system.. entire computer... really nasty , parts of the computer case began to rust from all the waste they produced. no amount of cleaning with bleach, vinegar, wd40, and other chemicals has gotten the smell out so far. They must have been after the heat the computer made. WE must exterminate them at all costs !

Swag If you really think it's that simple to "buy a new house", then you really need to take a look around at the economic circumstances (assuming you're in America) most people are facing these days. Your comment has got to be one of the most ignorant ones on this thread. Older homes- at least mine does :/ - tend to have cracks where pests can come in or hide. I've lived in a 4-plex with just the top 2 occupied for almost 6yrs. It's been a constant battle to keep a number of pests (at different times) out. I deal with fighting it, because it's what I can afford in the best district for my children- two of which are middle schoolers. And that brings me to my last point: ever tried to fight crumbs, etc against 2 preteens, a 3 yr old, and pets... as a single parent? It's no easy feat.. Fortunately, I've always been able to manage somehow with at home remedies.

I've moved in to a upper part of a house (kinda like an apartment) with my emotional support dog, at first the apartment looked clean with no issues but it was an old house. The rent was rather cheap too. I've moved in and God. . .its a nightmare at night. In the first night of staying, there's a pool of roaches on the floor. Not a few, but infection of roaches. I couldn't do anything to move out since I didn't had anywhere to go for the time being and I couldn't use repellent or any harsh poison since I have my dog and my land lord wouldn't do anything because "it never happened until you came, you must've brought it" (kinda "the your problem you deal with it" mentality). My emotional health got a toll over time (more than usual), like "seeing" roaches where they weren't. Messed up my sleeping schedule, making me a night owl, waiting for 5am when the sun is coming out so I can sleep (because those roaches barely comes out at day time). Not being emotionally nor mentally "there" when I need to be, like work or school or therapy. I'm sharing this story to show other commenters you don't need to be a "dirty" person to be in those situations and even if those bugs are "smaller than you" the point of them invading your space and products is enough reason to toll anyone emotionally. So, please, be kind, and even though we respect your option, please think twice before expressing since your commentary can affect or insult others. Thank you for reading my comment until the end. 😃

I agree. At my grandma's house my neighbor that lives below, refuses to bomb their apartment and all of their roaches come flying up to our apartment and its emotionally and mentally draining. I see roaches in places there not too. Little black spots around my home bother me and make me panic. I can't sleep waiting for these things to go away, I have to wear shoes everywhere in my home now, I refuse to cook in the kitchen, I refuse to bathe at this house(my mom and I have our own apartment) and I've been putting peppermint oil everywhere. What's worse is I have Psoriasis which already stems from nervousness due to the fact that's it's an autoimmune disorder as well a skin disorder. It already makes me itchy so now dealing with this makes it worse as is probably the reason my psorasis continues to flare-up....only reason I'm at this apartment and not the one my mom and I have more often is because the internet, important family matters, and a lot of our main mail/packages come here. Roaches are a serious problem. Especially when you see them during the day and when others around you don't try to solve the problem. And our manager refuses to look for the nest. Because a as many as we have seen and killed, this is a major infestation which means there's a nest somewhere. Whether it's downstairs at my neighbors, in ours, or in the attic they need to look for it.

My boss has roaches and he did the apple juice trick for a while and now there are about 100 fruit flies in his bathroom and kitchen. The apple juice trick is good for killing the baby roaches because they're dumb enough to walk right down into the liquid and they drown, the adult roaches are a little smarter. My friend's apple juice traps have about 2 to 5 babies in each one and 0 to 1 larger roach in each one. A few days later I literally found like 20 big roaches and like 50+ small ones just laying dead on the floor of the kitchen and garage. 100% cheap and effective, and if your squeamish about having to get the tape, then this might work for you because you can just get a broom and sweep away dead cockroaches. Came here because my friend has kids and doesn’t want to use any chemicals. There’s a baby gate at the kitchen so this might work for her. To improve this, you can take some baby powder with talc in it, and coat the inside of a cup, bowl, mason jar, or can with it in a thin layer and it will prevent the bugs from crawling out.

I have been married for 53 years and never had roaches until now. A friend of my daughter's gave me a couple boxes of Government issued Native America food. I started seeing a few now and then and killed the ones I could. I purchased a bunch of bananas two weeks ago and saw a few craw out of them when I un-bagged them when I got home from the store.. I have seen roaches in bags of potatoes in grocery stores. So you can carry them home with you from the stores. Stores quit using brown paper bags just because of this reason. They were finding the bags stored would have roaches. I am now looking for a way to get rid of the ones I now have before they get out of hand. It doesn't mean your home is dirty or nasty to be infested with roaches. They do live outside and can invade any ones home the same way ants do. .

They just showed up and I didnt mess with home remedys personally, but I did order Combat roach baits n gel online since im in Canada and its an American product. IT WORKS! Dead everywhere. You have to get the nest, they grab a chunk and take it there where it kills them. If this home remedy in video doesnt work, grab some Combat from Wal-Mart

Thanks! My wife & I are clean & neat, but living in an apartment - on the 2nd floor of a 3 story building - we get them anyway. Once in, they are nearly impossible to eradicate. We've had the 'bug people' over to spray so many times... and it does *_nothing!_* We've spent countless $$ on bait, sprays, etc. We even *_completely_* removed every single item from the kitchen & let them fog the place! That didn't work either. We had even moved the appliances to clean behind them first! Back they came! I'm gonna try this TODAY! I'll let you know if it works. Thanks again for the ideas. I wouldn't have thought of these! :) tavi.

Dude there are nests of them inside your walls. They breed at an exponential rate. This isn't going to do anything but kill a few at a time. If it's an apartment building forget about it. You can't do anything. ...Force everyone to move out for several days and have pest control smoke bomb the place and leave a shitloads of actual bait and still you can't know they won't come back in a month.

"Force everyone to move out for several days" - That is ludicrous advice because it would never happen in actual reality. Only a landlord would have the power to do that, but none of them actually would, as it would cost them way too much money and also other legal problems. They can't just "force everyone to move out" on a whim.

I am a pest control technician. So I'd like to provide some extra info for those who are interested. They are what we call an introduced pest meaning they are not native to outdoors and are brought in or comming from a complex in close proximity to where your residing. They are not cockroaches. Those are German Roaches. They prefer dark and warm areas. Common places are sinks, refrigerators, deepfreezes, dishwashers, and microwaves. But they'll reside anywhere giving the appropriate numbers. I've found them in bedside tables, light fixtures, outlets, cabinetry, gaming consoles, furniture, and more. If you see one with a pill on it's back, sqish it, Its pregnant. New borns take roughly 2 weeks to reach reproductive maturity. Once impregnated they have 2 weeks till the give birth. They give birth to up to 60 babies at a time and can conceive that very same day. And for everyone being ugly. I've seen these in both government funded and multi million dollar homes. It's got nothing to do with cleanliness and everything to do with who you have contact with. I will say though that in my personal experience poverty homes are more likely to them, however it is due to neighbor's, resell stores, and friends/family. Simular to how a person, who travels, is more likely to run into bedbugs than a person who does not. If you have the money its always best to call a professional who has the means to get rid of them.

I am physically disabled and really unable to clean and so I truely understand but when you said to clean all areas but your sink, the counters and floor would be included. I am going through my house and slowly cleaning it the best I can but roaches love that stuff and hate clean areas. I know you can't do anything about the broken tiles and that means nothing anyway but simply cleaning can and does do a lot. I'd clean the counters, mop, and try to scrub hard to reach places first. Then, when the house is as clean as possible, I'd start with boric acid or borax (though boric acid is better). I hear Demastix Earth is good. When it gets on them it penitrates their exoskeleton and essentally rips them apart so use a duster and dust that into areas like under the fridge and inside of where you think their nests could be. Also, you can use boric acid baits. I have heard warmed up peanut butter (so it's a liquid) and boric acid. The most popular is the yolks only of hard boiled eggs and boric acid. Put them everywhere. But, there is a lot that simply good cleaning can do, I am learning. No judgement. I am, or was, there too. Just advising. You will be suprised how many die off just by simply cleaning. I was.

Hi, I inherited an apartment that had a roach infestation. I think there is still an infestation as I see excrement in ceiling corners and what not. It's absolutely disgusting. I have never cooked in my kitchen, take out the trash everyday, bleach the kitchen and bathroom every couple of days and vacuum every couple of days. I keep seeing roaches and killing them daily. Big ones and little ones. I have been here a month and am quite fed up with this process since I had no hand in causing this. I am going to ask the apartment people to move me to another unit. This has been especially difficult since I have pets and have experienced a couple of times roaches literally crawling down the wall in the morning like 5 minutes after I feed the cat. The little ones are more common than the bigger ones. However, I see both. If they don't oblige, I have my back up plans (posting reviews on Yelp/FB/Google with pictures and videos and reporting it to the health department). But, in your opinion, would you say this is an infestation? Also, what can I do to keep them from getting in my cat's food? He has to eat. I spend all my time in the bedroom since I haven't seen any in here but feel like it's a matter of time before I see them in here. Anyway, thank you for any thoughts and opinions! I'm at my wits end!
@MrPacedan5 жыл бұрын
I dont believe Health dept will consider it an infeststation unless they can see many swarming over a wall in broad daylight for example.You can cheaply take care of it yourself...much easier than moving and better than souring your relationship with management.Likely you would unwittingly move the roaches to your new apt or you discover same problem.

Right on. In my building we used to have a horrid roach problem - for example I had an external hard drive bay, and I taped over all the openings, or so I thought. I went to burn a DVD one day, and it just wouldn't work. I opened it up and I swear to god there was a fucking ranch going on in there- I don't know if you've ever smelled concentrated roach crap, but it nearly made me puke. Naturally, out the window it went. I superglued a little crack in a desktop speaker- and it was like clowns in a volkswagen. Just unbelievable. This went on for a few years, they drank poison like it was fuckin' Junglejuice. Finally the exterminators used a little bitty line of hormone bait, and it was the last generation of those horrors. End. I just pray we never get the bait averse monsters, It's been a few years of roach free peace. None of the little tickles in the dark on my mouse hand, working late into the night. You've got some good ideas, I hope you can get rid of those little bastards, they've had millions of years of advantage over us, but all they can do is follow their instincts, WE are the ones with the brains, beat them with their own M.O., bait the bastards into submission and extinction.

With your method I should be able to get some sense of whether I had one come in or if I have an infestation going on that I was unaware of! Thank you VERY much for this great video! I love how you are so responsible about kids and pets. Good on you for trying to be my good neighbor and helping out. Rich folk get cockroaches too...lol. They're ignorant if they think they don't. Anyone can be invaded by any sort of pest anytime. Folks need to get a clue! I modified this with a technique from another video. The other one put a stand, with bread crumbs on top of it, in the middle of a jar. The stand was surrounded by some water. The roaches jump from the rim of the jar onto the stand. When they try to get up the sides of the jar, they are stopped by a coating of butter. They fall back into the water and drown. I put cider in instead of water. The cider draws the small ones to their deaths. Put the coating of butter just below vertical on the inside of the jar where it starts to widen. Once the roaches start to go upside down, they're into the butter and can't turn back.

Find the harborage areas, such as behind the fridge, stove, the back of cabinets, underneath the sink, in between dishwasher and insulation, wall outlets, base boards , etc. seal up where you can, Vacuum where you can to physically remove roaches from your home and immediately reduce the population, and bait them. Using egg sterilizer will make a dramatic improvement as well along with lightly using some type of powder or pesticide dust in hard to reach areas. The key to the dust is less is more. Using a bunch of borax or powder product is messy and pest can avoid it.
