What’s the most random thing that inspired a story idea in you?

Usually music summons a random idea for me. I know when I was a kid I’d base a “story” on a song I liked, or an instrumental piece. That’s why I have been wary of this because I think I have too many ideas. But it is a good way to the imagination and write whatever plot comes into mind based on music.

A single song! And it was a song that has nothing to do with the plot or story. It started with the theme or something as small as a protagonist’s hobby or interest, and it grew from there

@@azublisssame! I honestly get afraid of writing stories based on the music that inspired it. Like, even though my ideas have nothing to do with the songs themselves, I feel inclined to mention the songs as Inspirationz Example: (INSPIRED BY: …) I don’t know if that’s allowed or not but it helps me feel better

Quite frankly? An unfinished self-insert fanfiction from when I was a teenager. My first screenwriting class ever in animation school (shared with the film students) was me trying to flesh out the fanfic idea, but my teacher insisted it had to be original. So I thought: okay, how do I start making this character *not* like me? 5 years later, I’m still tinkering with it and imagining improvements, but now I have an Honours in Animation under my belt because my script and pitch bible from that transformed idea carried me *this* far - with encouragement from friends and family too. The show? It’s about a relentlessly optimistic and religious detective investigating and battling a sun-cult mafia. Not the shortest logline, but it sums it up.
