My grandfather began playing tenor sax when he was 13 years old in 1944 and played in big bands from 1946 until he passed away in 2018. He left me his saxophone and my goal is to learn how to play it. Being 33 years old, married and having a newborn son, it may be difficult, but your video has inspired me to learn! Haha, that's the mistake I did when i first started clarinet a couple years ago. Now I'm on the saxophone and bassoon, and I can basically blow a good note on any reed instrument. It's all the embouchure, once you get the hang of any woodwind instrument it'll be much easier for any other.

I never took classes at all. It just takes lots of time and dedication to your instrument. I played for about 7 - 8 hours a day for 2 years straight and worked on my tone for years. You don't have to put that much time into it, but I was in love and wanted nothing more than to play the saxophone on a professional level. Good luck!

Ok...so.... i bought various instraments many many years ago with the intention of one day learning to play the things....1)Bena(indian bellows organ) 2) Guitar and 3) a tanner sax. Sadly, my daughter recently left home..so i got gone with the house and now live on my boat on the River Thames(uk). Hi, I honestly hate it when teachers try to put up these type of redicules bariers for students. If you want to play sax. Play sax! Playing clarinet will not make you a better sax player. maybe oif you played for ten years...some clarinet would enrich your playing, but this is just a stupid idea. And oing audition to play sax??? If you want to play sax, Get a saxophone and play your ass off :). Don't wait for someone to give you permission man! So go out there and make it happen :)!

Similar mentalities come with string instruments! I’ve played cello my whole life and decided to start studying violin this year after call leagues always telling me that I already play a string instrument so I shouldn’t even bother dedicating time to a second one. Learning music for the sake of your own happiness is the best decision anyone can make. I’ve never played woodwinds and I’m so interested in playing saxophone. Even to give it a try and see if it says fun as I enjoy playing strings

I had the same thing happen when I started to play the saxophone about 14 years ago. It took me 3 years to find out that my band instructor just needed an extra clarinet player. When I finally switched to the saxophone it was soooo easy to switch over and it seemed so much easier to play than the clarinet. I agree with HelloSaxophone! If you want to play the sax, don't prolong it any longer...tell your band instructor you want to play the sax. You'll love it! Good luck man!

Yes you can learn Im about your age I mess around with guitars a little. But the saxophone blends and enhancements it adds to music is amazing. At our age we owe it to ourselves to try it. Walmart has the Tenor about 600dols. Good luck.
