One thing I always appreciate about true country wear is the classic beat up jeans and a simple tattersall shirt tucked in but still elegantly sloppy🤷.

Hi Chris, In the UK it's definitely the country look. In the US I'm not sure what. At any rate it's my favorite. The variation of color, texture and fabric is infinite. Your examples and ideas really work and are an interesting and informed guide to getting it right 👍. Cheers

Thanks Chris! During the winter months I wear wide wale corduroys quite often. During fall and spring, I opt for finer wale. Both go well with country jackets.

Hi Mike, Corduroys are great to wear as are Cavalry twill trousers. generally 8 wale (thicker) corduroys are more winter wear and 11 wale (thinner) is for more warmer wear, and you are correct they both go so well with hacking/tweed jackets. Just an observation from personal experience for others reading this, avoid wearing darker colours in the hot weather. In the cooler months I also wear Moleskin trousers👍🙂

What a wonderful video Chris. I wear the countryside look to the office. My favorite of your outfits is the one with the green-brown tweed jacket with khaki chinos. What I have not seen is any kind of boots. Is this part of the countryside look?

Hi Kay, glad you enjoyed the video. I wear these looks regularly, they are my go to looks when not wearing a suit. Great to hear that you wear this look to the office. As for boots, I tend to wear boots in the colder/wetter months and I wear heavily brogued boots or a paddock boot, but you can wear chukka boots or even Chelsea boot style with these looks to get that paddock boot vibe, not forgetting the good old Green Wellington look in inclement weather👍🙂

I really agree with your colour suggestions - I'm sat here typing this in a burgundy pull-over and lovat trousers! I really liked the tattersall lining of your wax jacket - that was a lovely little detail worth mentioning, I think. A couple of things I think you missed out on (if I may be so bold). Firstly, the prevalence of checked shirts, be they gingham, tattersall or whatever. Solids work fine in the country look, but I find check shirts work really well, especially with knitwear and/or tweed. Obviously you have to balance your textures a bit, but they're a great casual option. I also have a big preference for moleskin jeans over denim. I find they resist the wet better, and are harder wearing than corduroys in the cooler months. Plus, they differentiate you from the other 99.9% of the population without appearing eccentric (in my view). I also wonder if knitted ties are worth a mention. I appreciate they have become much more popular in recent years, but I was wearing them decades ago before they became fashionable! They have a lovely texture that works well with all the woollens and tweeds we tend to go for. A final mention for the inherent sprezzatura of a well-worn wax jacket. If I ever feel I look too well put together, I just throw the wax jacket on for instant shabbification!

I myself live in the countryside and I often wear tie and suit even when walking the dogs on gravel trails. Sadly, I end up wearing my old scuffed up brogues with the fear of damaging newer pairs. Also, I find it frustrating that I oscillate frequently between messy chores and casual relaxation. So I end up changing in and out of elegant attire frquently. :(

Hi there, great to hear you employ a suit when walking the dog and I don't blame you for wearing your older shoes when walking on travel trials, I would say that walking on dusty/gravel surfaces in the dry does tend to kick up that very fine dust that makes your shoes look worse than they actually are from a wear prospective. I fully understand your frustration of changing from one look to another, I personally without the additional things a prepare for videos, tend to still work with 3 ongoing ensembles, work wear (gardening/chore based), casual for popping into town and then a little more formal for work or meeting for drinks or evenings out. I'm suspicious of wearing wool in the country because of moths (except in the winter). Don't they just land on you and lay eggs? What is their life cycle? Is this a needless concern?

Hi Stephen, a great question where are concerned, but in general if you follow these points the risk of infestation is vastly reduced. Moths may take between six months and one year to mature, they reproduce as soon as they emerge from eggs (cocoons) as adults. It is when they emerge from the cocoons the risk of them eating your cloths is at it greatest. Whilst moths could land on you when out and lay their eggs (cocoons) , it is rare and if you use a clothes brush and brush your jacket down before returning it to your closet (wardrobe). Moths prefer dirty, sweaty, or food-stained wool, so if you keep them clean you can further reduce the risk. You can then use protective moth proof garment zip clothes bags and you can additionally use natural moth repellents like cedar blocks or lavender sachets. I use cedar tree oil and spray the back wall or floor of your wardrobe, or if you are putting jumpers (sweaters) in draws spray the inside of the casket. Doing these 3 simple things should significantly reduce the risk, the irony is that the risk of moth infestation in wardrobes tends to be more prominent in towns or cities than in the countryside. Hope this answers your question and don't let this put you off buying or wearing woollen items (jackets, suits or jumpers (sweaters)).👍🙂

Both were inexpensive yet great quality for there price point.
