A Mexican passport is one of those passports nobody talks about, but it is actually a pretty powerful travel document that gives you access to lots of the world!
With this passport you will be able to visit 158 countries without a visa, which puts Mexico in the 25th rank in terms of global travel freedom.
This passport will give you access to almost entire South American continet, Canada, the entire Europe (Including all of the EU countries), UK, Russia, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and many other countries!
When compared to some other popular passports, Mexico is really a much better country to try and get citizenship in.
But how does one get Mexican passport?
Today we'll be covering some steps and requirements, and what should you be thinking about if you want to obtain this citizenship.
Who are we and what do we do?
We are Offshore Citizen team. We help people become global: get a second passport, set up a second residency, pay less taxes, do banking abroad, etc.
We have lots of interesting articles on different topics, we have relevant information up to date.

You are right. Five years is the total [temp + perm] requirement. The citizenship requirements seem to have changed in the past year, to make the move to citizenship more difficult. For example, some regional offices have stopped processing this; you now have to process it in CDMX; the required paperwork mountain has increased in size; you also have to give up your original birth certificate. I am a permanent México resident and was considering citizenship. This video does not give much away, aside from it being a good option for citizenship!

@@impulsesystems Hi, please correct me if i'm wrong, i just got into researching Mexican citizenship through (mostly) paper residency. First i get a temporary residence permit by showing a bank balance of about $60k, there is no physical residence requirement whatsoever except i have to renew the permit at the end of 1st and 3rd year inside Mexico, and switch to permanent residency in the 4th year, still no physical residency requirement to keep the PR, which i can hold onto indefinitely without going to Mexico (right?). In case i want citizenship, the requirement is >5 years of continuous residency (not strictly physical, but just having a valid permit is OK) + >18 Months of physical residence in the last 24 months preceeding the citizenship application. Am i correct in my research? Obviously i'd have to learn Spanish and the history of Mexico but i'd have ample time for that..

I would be open to paying on personal income for the couple of years required to get the passport, but I would want to know that my corporate stuff stayed offshore and out of reach of the SAT. Hey, michael confirm these: 1) if we get the Permanent Residency with your service. After the 5 years pass when we try to naturalize to get the mexican citizenship, will they require we renounce any of our other citizenships? Online some sites says mexico allows multiple citizenships but does require renouncing your original/other citizenships when you naturalize ?? 2) On the Wikipedia mexican nationality law article it says that mexican citizens by birth can never involuntarily lose their citizenship BUT citizens by naturalization can lose their citizenships if "voluntarily acquiring another nationality"... Is this true?? That sounds so bad since we are always looking for new citizenship deals... 3) another site says if a naturalized mexican citizen resides outside of Mexico for 5 or more consecutive years, they "legally lose mexican citizenship (Article 37, part b, section 2)"

I believe that you are wrong about requiring 5 years of permanent residency to qualify for citizenship. Any years of temporary residency prior to obtaining permanent residency also count towards those 5 years. Also, the economic solvency requirements for temporary residency are much more lenient than for permanent residency. I'm getting mine with help from a consultant in Mexico who charges far less than $20,000, which I think is a ridiculous amount of money for the service.

A very interesting video and an interesting perspective that I hadn't thought about. I like Mexico for all sorts of reasons but have only begun to think about it seriously in the last year or so. One question, however, does that 18 months in the final 2 years make you a tax resident of Mexico? OK, one other question: if you get the citizenship but then move to another country do you retain tax obligations to Mexico?
@tw9419
@tw9419 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does make you a tax resident, however nobody pays taxes in Mexico 😅 Unless one reported themselves chances are nobody would notice. Lol. If you get their citizenship and leave the country you are not a tax resident anymore. Only if you spend 6+ months in Mexico or have severe ties with the country. In that case you don’t need to have their citizenship to be tax resident. So getting a passport and moving to a tax free country seems like a good deal to me

But beware of something. Mexican citizens by birth can under no circumstance lose their citizenship, even if they leave the country for 50 years or if they acquire 3 other citizenships, they can't even renounce if they wish. But naturalized Mexican citizens lose their citizenship if they leave the country for more than 5 years or if they acquire another citizenship after the Mexican one. They also ask you to renounce your previous citizenship, but I don't know if they really monitor this. And since Lopez Obrador is president, the SAT is much more aggressive. The people that don't pay taxes are the informal street sellers and the like.

Yes, permanent residence and citizenship is meant for people who want to live in said countries. The US citizenship cannot be taken, but they will tax you just as if you were in the US. That only applies to Mexicans who obtain their citizenship through naturalization.

I would certainly think twice about starting a business in Mexico. That could well (likely) make you a target of organized come shakedowns. Also, I would be wary about letting anyone know that you have significant funds. Keeping all your money/investments in any kind of Mexican institution would also expose you to the risk that a "helpful" bank employee advises their shady friends to pay you a little visit. That said, if you're just an expat, going about your life, with little overt signs of wealth, you should have no issues at all.
