Thanks … something that was not mentioned in the video … and I know is true at SRE in Michoacán … Once your application for citizenship is approved is that SRE requires that you sign a document that says in the event that you are charged with a crime in Mexico, you understand that you may not use the force of your country of 1st citizenship in your defense. Basically meaning, you are a Mexican on Mexican soil and must handle any legal issues as any Mexican would. They also tell you that you may not sign any legal documents in Mexico that represent you as a citizen of another country. This of course is problematic because banks require you to declare your foreign citizenships if required by your country of 1st citizenship, such as USA Finbar/Fincen laws.
@jesseornelas6600
@jesseornelas6600 2 жыл бұрын
I read that too. Once you become a Mexican citizen you are treated as any other Mexican national and will not have the assistance of your country advocating for you in case you get charged with a crime. I heard that it is very easy to get charged with a crime in Mexico.
@nicmart
@nicmart Жыл бұрын
How are they going to enforce that without requiring renunciation of home country citizenship?
@MountaintopKitchen
@MountaintopKitchen Жыл бұрын
@@nicmart Not sure if it would hold up … but they make you sign a document that says that you are not legally allowed to use the USA in any defense against Mexico’s jurisdiction. Otherwise, they do not grant citizenship. Some I know were never presented such a document to sign … seems to be a more recent thing starting less than 10 years ago and only here and there.

@@nicmart Exactly right, or if you were a celebrity or prominent US citizen. I'll most definitely pass on dual citizenship. I have enough things I'm dealing with now such as VA and social security disability claims to add more drama to it. I'll never renounce my US citizenship or give up a US passport. I might take a vacation to Mexico but won't move there.

Thanks for the detailed information , I was able to get my Mexican Citizenship via my birth parents. It took longer to get my Birth Certificate Apostle since the state of texas was slow. ( 8 weeks ) once that was done was able to get my birth registration of Mexico. Then able to go to the website and download my CURP and ACTA as well. Yesterday went to the Mexican Consulate with an appointment.. I was in and out within an hr .. with my passport in hand .. one side note.. They only take cash ( Laredo TX Consulate ) . Thanks again for you pointers. As after seeing your video it motivated me to get my Mexican citizenship. .. Now trying to get my RFC..... ( long wait times ) :)

Great info as always, mi Tocayo. I just got my dual citizenship via fast track after 22 years of being a tourist! LOL. My grandfather on my mother's side was born in Mexico. So, all I had to do was get my mom's Mexican citizenship done, then I fixed through her...Sounds like a lot of vuelta y vuelta, but it was nothing like the vuelta y vuelta of Mexican bureaucracy...Start to finish, I got everything done in like a month for like 720 pesos. It took me longer to get my birth certificate with apostille sent to me...They didn't want to honor the change in the constitution at first. They told me "that's the generic law, but we have our own internal laws." Crazy, right? So, a friend who works in the government told me to just go to the registro civil and talk to the lawyer there. If you're pleasant enough, he'll push things through for you...And, yep, that worked...So, I'm Mexican now!

My question is my father was born in Mexico and after some doing I found his birth certificate (born in 1925) and had it apostilized and am now in the process of having my BC (born in the states) apostilized per Mexican requirement. Does this mean I can bypass the whole residency financial requirement process as I plan on permanently living in Mexico as a dual citizen. Thanks for your reply and information.

If you have a Mexican parent you only have to wait 5 days to get your certificate of "Mexican born in a foreign country"You can have your certificate in about 5 days. All you have to do is take your 🇲🇽parent's birth certificate to ANY Registro Civil in 🇲🇽office along with your apostilled birth certificate & translate it into Spanish by a certified 🇲🇽 perito in that state where you're completing the process. And make sure your 🇲🇽parents name matches your birth certificate. Once you submit the paperwork & pay for the certificate you get your Mexican birth certificate which is as good as any birth certificate except it states you were born outside of 🇲🇽 And then your children will now have the right to a 🇲🇽 birth certificate. And it can be passed on to the next generation

Thank you for sharing the information. Which means that if a naturalized Mexican citizen subsequently obtains other citizenships, his/her Mexican citizenship may be revoked by Mexican authorities (i.e. according to the Mexican Constitution, Mexico restricts naturalized citizens from obtaining other citizenships subsequently)? Thank you, sir.

I visited the Mexican government website for CURP numbers, but the website did not recognize their information and therefore, no CURP numbers. A disadvantage of obtaining Mexican citizenship is during legal issues you will not have the same legal rights allowed by your primary country. In other words if you hold dual citizenship with the USA and you have legal issues in Mexico, the Mexican Government considers you a Mexican and has no obligation to negotiate with the US Embassy for your release or legal provisions. If you hold a TR or PR you retain your legal rights under US law.

Excuse me, that was sent too quickly.. I mentioned to the secretary, did you notice I was a Mexican citizen? She honestly said, 'oh my, no I did not.' I got a big discount, As stated earlier, you cannot use the services of the American consel should you get trouble in Mexico. I was literally told, 'congratulations, you are now a Mexicana! And you will be treated like one! If you get in trouble, you cannot go to the American consel'. You do need to apply for the INE card which allows you to vote in Mexico and is the best ID you can have. Honestly, other than that, I wish you would give benefits of being a naturalized citizen. I always must carry two passports with me. You use the passport of the country you are standing in, ie, Mexico would be the Mexican passport to leave here and the US or Canadian passport when entering or leaving those countries. I just find that I have the possibility of losing two passports rather than one! Many people think they have to renounce their American or Canadian citizenship. That is not true and it is not a good idea. If there are any other benefits I would like to know. I find your videos helpful, even after living here for 30 years! thank you so much!

Greetings Paul! I am a non-natural born Puerto Rican who holds the Puerto Rican Certificate of Citizenship and I would not qualify for fast track citizenship in Spain. However, I have been living in Mexico as a permanent resident cardholder for one year and Mexico has a similar type of program making iberoamerican nationals eligible for naturalization after 2 years. Would the certificate of Puerto Citizenship work for the fast track to Mexican citizenship in 2 years for iberoamerican nationals? I know it works for nationals of countries like Colombia, Brazil, etc.. However, since Puerto Citizenship is recognized by Spain, do you know if it is recognized by Mexico or other Iberoamerican countries as well? I have never heard this angle discussed, so I am curious to hear what you and others know about this.

Thank you so much for making this video, it's super helpful when the Mexican immigration websites have been pretty confusing at times. I fall under the 2-year track since my great-grandparents were born in Mexico but my family never claimed citizenship. If I am interested in this process, is it better to speak with the Mexican consulate in the US or to a Mexican immigration lawyer? I want to make sure I am able to produce the necessary documents since I am not sure how to get my great-grandparents' Mexican birth certificates.

Is there a change to citizenship at age 65? Maybe that is what you referenced for age 60 in your video, no cultural/ history exam?

It is 60. No cultural/history exam, but you still have to take the Spanish exam if you are not a native speaker.

Any idea how the level of Spanish required would translate to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)/Marco Común Europeo de Referencia (MCER) levels of language competence? I know that Spain requires an A2 level (as measured by exams such the SIELE or DELE) of ability to qualify for Spanish citizenship, but I've not seen anything comparable for Mexico or other Latin American countries.
@qroo
@qroo 2 жыл бұрын
That is a good question but there is nothing written in the rules and guidelines to indicate a particular level of Spanish. It would be helpful if they did that.

It is probably similar to the American requirement to speak English for naturalization, so a relatively casual interview. Small chitchat about the weather, how your day is going, etc., and then the written exams.

I was born in Mexico before 1998. My parents had to revoke my citizenship to become a citizen in the US. Now I am told that I need to reclaim my citizenship- Declaratoria de nacionalidad mexicana. I need a form G-24 which is outdated and I was told the new form is N-600 and is over $1000 to submit. Is this accurate? Has anyone else had this same issue? Thanks to everyone that replies!

Seeking some clarification on two questions, just to make sure I understood correctly. 1) People from south america qualify for the 2 year track and have to pass a culture/history, but are exempt from a language test I'm assuming? 2) People from south america can be a temporary resident for 2 years and then apply for citizenship? Thanks for the vid btw, super informative

1) Yes to the 2-year track. They are exempt from the language test if their native language is Spanish. 2) Yes.

@@kimberlydavis8861 The 5-year track is for every foreigner who has no connection to Mexico. Be they from the US, Ethiopia, Slovakia, Cambodia, or Samoa. The exceptional service thing for a 2-year track is similar to how the US awards "honorary citizenship" to notable people like Winston Churchill, Mother Theresa, etc. It's that kind of EXCEPTIONAL service.
