I have been covering the sensor with my index finger while holding down the trigger. I then remove my finger from the sensor to simulate the trigger being pulled. At 5.7 setting and got to play many rounds perfectly. It was a process though, something that most gamers may find annoying.

Knowing the Nes version helps, and some of the other stuff about pointing at the top/sensitivity but now I’m wondering about the Tomee gun too.

13:50 a couple of things regarding the Wii U port of Duck Hunt: The wiimote speaker produces a sound similar to the zapper's trigger when you press the shoot button (B), which makes it feel closer to the real thing specially when usig the Wii Zapper. Also, it is possible to remove the on screen reticle by pressing down on the dpad to make it harder and closer to the original game. Just like the NES version, a second player can control the ducks' movement by using a second controller. In summary, if you have your old U plugged to you tv and want to play some Duck Hunt, I think that's the most convenient and affordable way to do so, plus you can aslo play Wild Gunman and not just Duck Hunt.

So much work just for Duck Hunt. Maybe it might be worth it if Hyperkin could make some more of those patch cartridges for other light gun games. However I’m really happy to still have an old CRT TV to play my original light gun games on. I’ve been buying up some old ones for the Master System and playing them with my kids. They’re having a blast!

I will try the things you figured out (two of them I didn't even see/pay attention to); however, I have two questions- I have a Classic II HQ console. Do I have to get the Retron? Also, when I realized Duck Hunt wasn't working I attempted to play Mario but no matter which button I pressed, it just refreshed the title screen instead of going into the game. I tried again without the adapter piece and the game wouldn't even load. Any tips are appreciated, thank you!

Just a few quick questions since you seem to have put a bit of time into this so far. When you talk about simplifying/limiting the amount of things inbetween the nes and the tv. What is your current setup? as i have my toploader rgb modded and being passed through a gscartsw into a ossc then to the tv. Also have you or are you able to use the gun and then play prepatched roms into something like a everdrive bypassing the need for the adapter? Or would things like the light sensitivity switch options not work then?

so when I talk about simplifying things between the system and your TV, what I mean by that is eliminate anything in between them. Go straight from an HDMI output into the input on your TV. Don't use switch boxes, don't use capture cards, go from the system right into your television. I don't own an NES everdrive so I have no way to test patched games

@@RoXolid So... I went to a local store and picked one up knowing i could return it if it didn't work. The included adapter seems to be the problem, like your previous video i could not get a good connection between the game and nes to get a solid image. The game would stall/crash as the connection was horrid with the only copy of Mario/Duck hunt that i have So i thought i should try what i asked. I patched my ROM using the NESLCDMOD ips projects files (currently using the Duck Hunt (W) beta 5 version) popped it into my everdrive and booted up. Spent a few mins getting the light in my room and the gun light switch to the point that missed shots miss all the time. So yeah, I got it working and i'm loving playing it again on my big screen lcd I'm hoping that anyone that has got this gun or maybe something similar might be able to bypass the adapter and get it working for them self. I know that most people will be annoyed that a kit should just work, but at least this way i can try a a few games via the NESLCDMOD site and i'm not locked into the single game too. Maybe i could have gotten the cheaper Tomee gun (or similiar) if I could find it locally and gotten the same result, but a win is a win Thanks for the vids Roxolid :)

I'm glad that you made the experiment for what it is. In the end I pass on it since it only works on duck hunt and I get it is just a patch of the game at least in my opinion.

I found out the the zapper does work on original hardware without the cartridge adapter on a CRT TV, with but that defeats the purpose of playing on an LED/LCD TV, the sensitivity switch makes some of the light gun games better

I tried the gun kit with the retron hd1 as suggested the game will not even come on after the reset, powering it off and on multiple times, know the game works as it comes on perfectly without the orange card. Ordering a 2nd one free trade in just to see if it was defective

@@RoXolid its odd after seeing your video i thought i got this. I bought everything did exactly what you showed in the video the main screen of mario/duck hunt won't even show up on the screen. So I reordered another kit, I think its the orange cartridge. Im hoping it was just defective. I will let you know if it works. My wife loves that game its why I invested in the console just for the game. Oddly the game works perfectly without the cartridge so I know its not the game. Ty 4 the video

It's more about the fact that the Retron 5 dumps the ROM first before playing. There's no way to dump the ROM and patch using the adapter with the Retron 5.

It still pisses me off that Hyperkin ignored both the frontloader NES model and the SMB/Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet 3-in-1 cartridge, both of which I have had for the last *30 years.*

The front loader I can understand a bit. The adapter cart doesn't release from the Blinking light win well, so unless they added a tether to the adapter it would be able to be removed. The fact the ROM is technically different between the different revisions, and since the adapter patches a specific ROM that also makes sense. Neither were deliberately done, it's just the nature of the beast

When you went over to the original top loader, I was like "Wow, that's how I remember it looking!" and now I'm wanting to just get an original NES for my CRT and play the light gun games that way. I have the Retron HD because I was worried about the failure rate of the NES cartridge mechanism but heck it. This product just seems a little finicky no matter what.

The Top Loader really hasn't had any issues with the cartridge slot, that was more the front loader. Even there, however, if you install a Blinking Light Win mod (I have a video showing that process here on the channel), it makes the Cartridge Slot pretty bulletproof.

There are skins for duck hunt on escape pod.. that and another KZbinr showed an everdrive with the neslcdmod patches working.. So my mind is going a million ducks a minute

I've had a lot more hits than misses with their products. Their Wireless Cadet and Scout controllers are awesome and my preferred way to play the NES & SNES! The quality of their gear has improved a lot over the years, even since the initial release of the Retron 1 HD!

The version of WII or WII U , uses a sight aim, so thats like running in a bike with training wheels, thats not the proper experience since players are not using the skills of their own sight. I recommend BYPASS the WIi or WIIU version if you want an actuall lightgun experience, get the original hardware and a CRT
