How To Get The Most Out of Your Dial Indicator - Simple Trick

Dial indicators are used for very precise measurements thus making them a great tool to have in your tool box whether you’re a machinist or a auto mechanic. Depending on which brand dial indicator you buy or how often it has been used, you may need to do a few things to it to improve its performance to get the most out of your dial indicator. In this video I will go over some simple tricks that I used to improve my dial indicator and get it to operate at optimal level. This will be great for your if you’re measuring wheel bearing play on your car.

Never oil a dial indicator

Just my 2 cents, maybe instead of oil look into using something like Houdini lock lubricant. It isn't an oil or silicone, not sure what's in it but it's a highly recommended lock and door knob spray lube that doesn't gum up and is supposed to not leave a heavy film behind. It's worth a look into anyway.

Depends how much you use it, but you can get a Federal, Mitutoyo, Starrett, or Brown and Sharpe on Ebay for $20-30 and are soooo much better quality. These Chinese ones are complete garbage.

I've been having good luck with clockwise tools on scamazon. I don't freak out when they fall of the lathe. The stuff from the hazard fart is really shitty.

There is no situation I can think of where I would want a less accurate dial indicator. Pro tip: Write a script before you turn the camera on. Stick with it. Drop "like," "ya know" and "ummmm" and you'll make a far more concise and interesting video.

Well did it work better i gave up on it after the 10th time he peat peat repeatedly repeated himself i dont think oil is the way

HF quality. “fix something to FIX Something”. Just take off plate cover, vacuum out the particles from poor MFG it, a clean wipe Lube and work oil into the mechanics. Simple!

I just opened em up and took an aerosol can of gel lube and opened fire.... shook out the excess, screwed back on the back, took a tiny washer and filed it down to where the needle sits straight up and down putting it underneath the rubber o ring on top brcsuse you can unscrew that top stop.. put some 3 in 1 on the outer shaft and voila, she twerks...
