Nice video. I am yellow cab driver in NYC . You can go to Manhattan in 2.75$ via Q10 bus from jfk terminal 4 and free transfer to subway at Union turnpike / kew gardens station where you get E and F train .You need to have money on metro card to get free transfer or if bus driver provides you with paper ticket for transfer. It will take 20 minutes extra but it’s sometimes worth to see the local bus travel and sightseeing which pass by Caribbean neighborhood/ south Asian neighborhood and Jewish neighborhood.

If you were headed to Brooklyn there is a LIRR option to Atlantic Terminal from Jamaica. Leaves you where there are connections to 11 subway lines. Live in Brooklyn but have never done it. If there are 3 people though, a cab costs $52, so might a better deal. Great video.

Wait in line at the airport and get a Yellow Cab. They are flat rate. And rate controlled. Do not let someone "pick you up" (New Yorkers call it Gypsy Cabs) -- actually wait in line. They move fast. One person pays as much as three. Just do it. Compared to other cities, New York is very reasonable.
@michaeltuffin8147 Жыл бұрын
Beides being less expensive than a Taxi from JFK->NYC (70 bucks) the train is often quicker, especially between 4-7p.m. At the height of rush hour it can take 2 hours to drive into the city. The taxi, though will drop you off anywhere in Manhatten at the flat rate.

There is now a LIRR service to Grand Central in addition to Penn. The ticket fare is the same, either to Penn or to Grand Central. Regarding the ticket activation before boarding, there is a catch. The app-based city ticket has a short lifespan (only a few minutes) compared to regular ones. I recommend activating only when you are on the platform and about to board. Some people make mistakes by activating the ticket when the train is not yet coming and about to expire when boarding, already expire when the conductor approaches to collect the ticket. It is not the first time that the intended LIRR trains arrive late while your activated ticket is already expiring
@timj6843 жыл бұрын
Just to point out, you would very rarely need to wait 30 minutes from Jamaica to Penn Station. Going to destinations on Long Island (and other stations) you might need to wait 30 minutes or so if you just miss a train, but multiple train lines go from Jamaica to Penn Station, so it is rarely a wait of more than 15 minutes or so, even outside of rush hour (late at night could be a bit loner)
@RenataPereiraTV3 жыл бұрын
It happened to me already, it was a 40 min wait... I even posted at the time... Good to know it might have been an unfortunate situation then 😉

If one is going to Brookly- really downtown Brooklyn the Barclay CEnter , one can take the LIRR to that Barclay's CEnter Brooklyn Stop, but I forgot the name of the Stop. If one takes the E Train, they have to go through Queens, then from MIdtown Manhattan and transfer to another TRain in lower Manhattan to get to the Barclay CEnter. I think it is called Atlantic TErminal. It is bacially Downtown Brooklyn. ONe can take the J Train which goes through Queens and then Brooklyn. But it is not a very nice Train. It goes through some bad Neighborhoods in Brooklyn like EAst New York and Bed Stuy.

Great video. Just a few notes from a native 1) the Sim Cards in the airport are knockoff garbage. If you buy one and it doesn't work you will not get a refund 2) you can use the same MetroCard on the AirTrain and Subway as long as it's a Pay-per-ride card and not unlimited. You'll actually get a free transfer from Air Train to Subway as it'll detect the swipe in your card. Thus you would only pay the 7.75 total 3) if you are visiting anywhere near mid-town it's going to be a lot faster to take the LIRR, even if it's Times Square. Right as you exit the LIRR you can immediately transfer for the subway or walk. The subway will take you a lot longer 4) UBER does not have a special NYC rate. They will charge you around $30-$40 to go from JFK to Manhattan. (The hustlers will charge you upwards of $100 but that's a whole other story) Overall though, your video was great and informative
@RenataPereiraTV3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for your tips, Matt! Very useful! So interesting that the signs encourage you to add the subway fare to the $7.75 AirTrain fare. I've always used pay-per-ride MetroCards and never tried this. About the LIRR to Times Square, I guess my opinion is based on traveling with a lot of luggage. I find it harder to get the subway once you arrive at Penn Station as compared to being at the subway since Jamaica. Minimizing the walk and the connections makes a lot of difference when I'm already tired and trying to get into a busy train, hehe. All the best! 😉 😊

A few notes about this from a Native New Yorker who lives in Queens, not too far from the LIRR in Jamaica. The LIRR is nicer, more upscale than the Subway, butg obvkiously more expensive. The LIRR Cars also have bathrooms (NO Showers) but Toilets, maybe not the Cleanest which NYC Subway Cars don't have. I think during the Pandemic they got rid of the BAthrooms in NYC Subway Staions which defintely were not the NIcest. If you take the Subway form Jaimaica since it is one of the first Stops, you should be able to get a Seat on the E Train. Another option maybe Renata will cover this later is to take the Q60 Bus near the LIRR Jamaica Terminal which ends go along Queens Blvd and end up stopping in Manhattan as the last stop by the 59th Street Bridge really 60th Street and 2nde Avenue. The Q60 would be a long ride during the day especially Rush Hour into Manhattan- defintely over a hour, more like 90 MInutes, shorter at Night. The Q60 Bus takes the Metro CArd like the Subways and I believe the New Omni Card MTA is beginning to use to repalce the Metro Card. I am old fashioned and prefer the Metro Card. I beleive one can take other MTA Buses like the Q10 to go to and from JFK as well which should requre a regular MTA FAre unlike the AirTrain which now I see is $7.75 as opposed to the Bus which is $2.75 and you get one free transfer either to the Subway or another bus as long as you use it within 3 hours (I think the transfer period was 2 hours when this first began a number of years ago, but I heard it is 3 hours now)
@RenataPereiraTV2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for all this information. We do wish to return and take the subway in and film that as an alternative,
@HoldenNY222 жыл бұрын
@@RenataPereiraTV - YOu could also try the Q60 Ride from the LIRR, but I think it is a very long ride from the Jamacia Station , over a hour, much, much longer if you go during Rush hour especially Morning Rush Hour. But you can use your cell phone because it is above ground and it is just a Regular MTA Swipe.

You wouldn't have had to stand if you took the subway; in the Manhattan-bound direction, the station is the first stop after leaving the terminus and the train probably wouldn't have been crowded at the time of you day you were traveling. Also, barring any special circumstances (construction, signal problems, etc.), the E train runs express in Queens, which means you can get to Manhattan very quickly. From the JFK subway station, I've reached the first Manhattan station (Lexington Av/53rd Street) in 20 minutes--not quite as fast as the LIRR, but perhaps not as slow as this video suggests.
@RenataPereiraTV3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing the alternative route. When we return to NYC we will try it. 👍😀

@@RenataPereiraTV You’re welcome. Oh, you mentioned contactless payment at the AirTrain stations… FYI, the AirTrain stations are run by the Port Authority of NY and NJ, the same agency that oversees operations at New York area airports. However, the contactless payment system (OMNY) was the creation of the New York City Transit Authority, a completely different agency. Hard to tell whether the Port Authority will allow the use of another agency’s system on their turf. “But they both use Metro Cards.” Well, yes, but the cards sold at the machines at AirTrain stations are coded differently-you can’t add 7- or 30 day unlimited bus/subway rides to a card you buy at one of those machines because those options were implemented by the Transit Authority (P.S. Buy a 7- or 30-day card from an authorized vendor in the AirTrain station (which saves you the $1 fee) and add the cost of the AirTrain ride to that card).

A good guide video! Personally, I always prefer to go via Howard Beach. Way less chaotic, but it sort of depends where in NYC you want to go (and no LIRR option this way). Just a minor note: the Airtrain fare increase actually happened on November 1, 2019, so not pandemic inflation related. I only know this because I flew out on October 31st and it was $5, and returning on November 3rd, it was $7.75!

Ahhhh! What a coincidence that you saw the increase! I was there in October 2019 as well and still paid the $5. I have a friend who also prefers Howard Beach for exactly the same reason 😉

So when you disembark from LIRR and go up, you come up into Moynihan Train Hall, and exit from there? to 8th Avenue, yes?
@RenataPereiraTV3 жыл бұрын
You disembark at a corridor (where I'm speaking at 8:08) that ends up at the wall that appears at 8:12. From there you get to choose which side, and we went via Moynihan/8th Ave

@@RenataPereiraTV Thanks! I'm going to Anime NYC in mid-late November and my hotel is on 36th St between 8th and 9th Ave. Been using a lot of Google Street view to figure things out but videos like yours really help fill in the gap!

@@JJR93 That's awesome! Yes, it's a short 3 block walk, just leave Moynihan via 8th Ave and walk north, it's about 5-7 min. Enjoy NYC!

For any New Yorkers reading this. I’m landing in JFK and I’ve got to get to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, would you advise following this video and then just walking from Moynihan train station to it?
