But if they cancel this project (or any story dlc) they will at least open Mexico's map for red dead online. Anyhow Mexico is coming. It was very likely looking at the physical map given with special and ultimate edition, it is now sure thing as we can access to it. :)

Xbone x already has a remastered rdr. It's called the 360 version and it runs with 4k upscaled graphics and looks and plays better then rdr2. Ok, it plays better, not looks better. It's also a better game, with better characters and a better story. Undead nightmare only helps.

"El Presidio" is the only mexican side city you can see from the US side. That's why only the outside walls have some "Decent" textures and also why is the only city that appears in Mexico.

I think the atmosphere of it is perfect aside from armadillo obviously, but there's literally nothing to do there besides explore. there's 4 points of interests, two legendary fish, around 7 dinosaur bones, 6-8 exclusive animals, one useless treasure hunt that's only remotely worth doing if you're going for a full compendium playthrough, another mustang, one revolver that's just a factory-designed version of one of the early game revolvers, 2 bounty posters, and basically one exclusive herb. it would be cool if it actually had some content. nothing too fancy either. maybe just some new weapons and horses exclusive to tumbleweed. speaking of tumbleweed and armadillo, it's cool that tumbleweed is populated, but the cholera outbreak in armadillo is just so dumb. they could've done way more with that town. but aside from all of those negatives, I love New Austin. it's cool that rockstar even decided to remaster it in RDR2. I can even look past all of these negatives because it's supposed to be a much smaller part of the game. the main focus is the main map.

I quite like the old rdr1 map a lot better. In rdr2 it’s quite barren but in rdr1 it’s full of stuff to do and see. While in comparison rdr2s map is massive but a lot of it is mountains that have literally nothing to do.

So basically Mexico is empty because players weren't meant to go to it, El Presidio is there but empty, poorly textured, and missing bits up close because players were only meant to be able to see it from far away. It's interesting they included a cut out tunnel thing where the railroad tunnel went through the mountain in the original game, that as well as all the other textured open space in Mexico is a wonder why rockstar included it, maybe they do have future plans for it.

I'm late but you can get into Mexico as Arthur pretty easily. It involves going off the map going around New Austin, finding the beginning of the San Luis River, and swimming to the opposite side. You risk getting sniped if you travel too close to the New Austin border so I like to travel alongside the untextured land. Once you get to the San Luis River you won't get sniped as long as you stay on the opposite side in Mexico. You can also find wild horses off the map so you don't have to make the travel on foot if you can't find a way to bring your horse.

You can get to Mexico at the very start of the game. You take one of the small boats into Flat Iron Lake and jump from the small boat to one of the bigger CPU boats heading south. The boat will go close enough to the Mexico border that if another boat crosses between you and the border, you can shoot the occupants, swim to the next boat, and row it to shore.

Listen people , Rockstar wouldn't have made this much detail in Mexico just to say it's for a backdrop . If this was a back drop , they wouldve made a small amount of land and make you glitch through the ground and back to the regular map . They have to be making this for a dlc or just a bonus place to travel to . Or else they wouldn't have made Armadillo or Rio Bravo or Gap tooth Breach or Tumbleweed accessable . There wasn't even story missions near Armadillo or Tumbleweed . Why would they make this accessable ? It's obvious maybe when Red Dead Online comes out or some other dlc comes out , Mexico would eventually become accessable . They wouldn't have designed that city and tunnelway in Mexico if we weren't allowed there. So let's hope it'll be accessable in the future of single player and not just online .

Personally, I think they might have somehow reused the map from RDR1, improved New Austin and West Elizabeth and added the new areas, but left Mexico untouched save for a general texture overhaul they must have done on the whole RDR1 map. That's probably why it's there, and unfinished. I really hope they end up using Mexico though, if only for an Online map expansion. Lots of potential there, and it's already partly done; they wouldn't have to make it entirely from scratch.

If they weren’t planning to remaster Mexico like they did with New Austin, they would’ve just let us go to Blackwater, Great Plains, and Tall Trees. If they were willing to recreate New Austin, then they gotta have future plans for Mexico. If I was a developer and my boss told me I had to recreate the map of a previous title but leave one region out, I wouldn’t have done it unless they told me they had plans for it as future content.

You can jump off the edge on the far southwest side of Guarma where the corner is with waves. If you climb that mountain with low res textures you will find another bigger mountain behind it. I think it is the highest point of the map you can get to. Hope you find it cuz the view is awesome!!!

Here’s my theory aside from online play, I honestly believe they were testing their limits as far as how big they could make maps for a story mode. This is actually insane to sit and think about because Mexico was huge in red dead redemption. To think that they were able to include that in an already massive story map, is impressive. Now just image if they were able to do that, what gta 6 is going to be like. I’ve heard rumors that they could possible try to make a whole state, a few states or even all of the US. Even heard about all of the UK as well or overseas story.

Luke Dalley Maybe RockStar was going to make Mexico playable with towns and missions and the such but couldn’t really get it in on time or didn’t really have much inspiration to make it as good as the rest of the game, so at least they’ve put the sound files in.

As huge as RDR2 is, Rockstar could've easily included a remastered version of RDR in with the Ultimate Edition for only a few more Gigs of data. I always thought that RDR looked fantastic, imagine it in 4K Ultra HD

STEEZER I have a PS4, so nope. But my point remains the same, the original RDR was about 600 MB of data for PS3. A remastered version included in with Ultimate Edition of RDR2 for PS4 would probably only have added 4-6 Gigs to it's already 100 Gig size if that. Perhaps Rockstar has a remastered version in the works as a DLC. Not many people still have PS3 or XBOX 360 I suspect, so from a money making stand point an updated version for the latest generation consoles would probably sell very well.

It seems like they were either planning on having Mexico in full in RDR2 and ran out of time/money to do it, or they really just mashed the old map together with the new map and instead of deleting anything (just in case for DLC) they left in that entire area. Crazy.

If you guys look up the "2016 leaked red dead redemption 2 map" that was leaked even before rdr2 was announced. Not only did it correctly leaked the actual base game map, it actually also DOES feature mexico and all the major places there that we visited in rdr 1, my guess is that this was cut at the last second (because john never visited mexico before rdr 1) and it's probably gonna be featured in red dead online (hopefully).

Doesn't work anymore. In history mode the horse doesn't try to climb the edge, and in Online mode, if the character goes too high he dies "falling from the horse" :-(
