Hi sir! I am also a fresher and really want my first client . I am video editor n a blog and content writer . I am eagerly waiting for my first client

I use to get alot of work on Upwork last month. This month, not so much. I have a question. As a milestone, should we ask for a Initial deposit? I usually ask for half up front and the other half when I give them the final approved video. I am thinking other freelancers are NOT asking for a deposit up front and the clients are choosing them instead.
@PaulMendes3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, Josh. The truth is, it depends on a variety of factors. However, in my experience, it is common to take at least some sort of deposit before working on a project. But the more important part is getting on a phone call or video call with the client and build a real relationship with them first. Make sure you are able to focus on qualifying them and seeing if you both are a good fit to work with each other. If that's the case, they won't have an issue with a deposit. Remember, clients want their problems solved and this is a numbers game. Stay patient and persistent and you can get your lead volume back up to how it was.

Appreciate the help I’m just concerned about the portfolio and reviews on my profile as a beginner. I want to work as a writer/translator/transcriber, would I get hired with no past work done on upwork? I have a little blog in which I write fitness food recipes, would that serve as a portfolio for blog or ebook writing jobs?
@PaulMendes2 жыл бұрын
Everyone has to start somewhere. Think about it, every single freelancer on Upwork has gotten a project when they had no reviews on the platform. You can definitely use your past blog as a case study on your profile for past work experience. Then focus on landing your first blog or ebook writing job and getting a great review. It will start to give you momentum and then you can go from there.
