For Canadians you can open a BMO Harris bank account via BMO. Ask specially. Once you have Harris you can get other accounts
@OffshoreCitizen3 жыл бұрын
Yes it's a bit annoying but definitely doable. RBC also has an offer but it's way more expensive

I find TD the best. The TD (USA) will pull a Trans Union Report from Canada. You will use your CDN. SIN, but it does require putting down a US Address.

I heard that you can get the Amex gold and they ask if you’re a U.S citizen or not however it doesn’t make a difference to the application. You think that’ll work? Actually I’ve just done it and they said they’ll get back to me soon lol

Being a citizen won't be a deciding factor, depending where you apply being a resident definitely can be.

The terminology between the US and the UK with debit/credit/checking cards. When I have an American company telling me that "we only accept credit cards", when I've been paying for said service with a debit card for years is becoming an absolute joke.
@MichaelRosmer4 жыл бұрын
Haha yes the term "credit card" is often used interchangeably with "visa & mastercard" in North America. Sometimes we also hear the term "bank card" in Canada and some other places.
@toddgilbey39794 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelRosmer yes, but Visa and MasterCard are just brand names, they both offer the same credit card services and debit card/bank card services. Unless it’s different in North America. But the times I’ve had to explain to Microsoft - a multi-billion dollar company - who supplies Office365 to all my business how they have been accepting debit cards for the past 30 plus years, is kind of tedious despite saying otherwise 😂
@MichaelRosmer4 жыл бұрын
@@toddgilbey3979 haha well there are a couple cases for example with some online ad accounts where they actually won't accept certain debit cards but will accept credit but in general I'd say just give them the card number and call it a day. Lol

I’d like to know how Americans can get credit in other countries.
@MichaelRosmer4 жыл бұрын
Great question it depends on the country. Most countries don't have sophisticated credit systems like the US does. In most cases you need to be able to show a regular income like a salary within the region (in some cases region could be the EU for other EU countries) and make an application but it also depends on secured vs unsecured credit. Secured as in a mortgage is much easier.
@i1pro4 жыл бұрын
What's a good place to build credit besides the US?
@MichaelRosmer4 жыл бұрын
@@i1pro well first realize most countries don't have sophisticated credit rating systems like the US. For instance, in some countries, it goes on a bank by bank level. Next, I think it's really important to consider where you would want to utilize credit? For instance, say you can get credit in Bulgaria (not that difficult to do if you've got a residency permit, show a salary and file taxes) but don't plan on spending money in Bulgaria you'll be limited to an unsecured line of credit that's probably not very high. If you want to buy property in Spain you probably want to build credit in Spain (generally banks won't lend to you outside of your home country unless you're talking about sophisticated international asset-based lenders for deals that are sufficiently large). Some other countries that have sophisticated credit systems would be places like Canada & Germany. UK is middle of the road. Usually, the most important factor starts with demonstrating income locally (not so true in places like Canada, the US, etc. where income is separate from credit). What I find is most useful is in cases where the two can be separate. If you haven't already I'd look into building corporate credit, especially in the US, separate from personal credit as it can give access to a decent amount of low-cost unsecured capital.

Thank you for your video I still have a question though. Your examples don’t seem to cover my case. I have a US social. I used to study live and work in the USA. I was able to build US credit and retain my social. However I had to leave the US years ago and I decided to settle in Canada where I am a citizen. How do you update an address with the credit bureau in the US they won’t accept canadian address it needs to be Us and it requires a proof of address bill etc. Are there like PO box services that can be used so I can still enjoy the benefit of leveraging my US credit?
