Where there's a will, there's a way. And the operator had both the will and the way. Great job.

Thanks for posting this video. I suspect that this guy had done this exact thing before, since he had, it appears, just the right amount of tire cushion. The key seems to be making sure the bucket is directly down-slope, so no tendency to roll ruins your day. There are videos of such excavators going down hill, some gracefully, some fatally.

GREAT Skill and nerve. The silage clamp looks high from the ground, but when your sitting in the cab of the digger it looks twice as high😨 and a long way down to the very hard concrete floor 😵 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

i would just like to say the reason the digger is up there is because when you silage (cut grass) and it get's haulled back to get farm in trailers on digger is on top of the grass right from the start aranging the grass in differnt area's and also compacting the to get more in and the grass then get's built around it until the end until he gets of and the end

Its a silage pit. As tractors came to dump the silage, the digger built it up into that pile. As more silage came, the higher the pile got and....this happened :P

I can hardly believe nobody replied to this, though I’m sure by now you have figured it out, but for the benefit of urbanites: the digger’s job is to roll and crush the silage, so when the pile started, digger was at ground level. As each new load gets dumped, digger creeps about crushing it. Silage pile gets higher, and unless you have designed your pile so that it has a natural ramp, the digger will end up stranded as this one did.

But the point is that the pit is as square and as neat as possible. Clawing a ramp out of one side of it would mess the whole thing up.

I've seen hundreds of silage bunks and worked in several and I have never seen an excavator on top. What the hell was it doing up there to begin with? Also that's fresh silage there so there's obviously a ramped edge from where the bunk tractor has been pushing the feed. And what was stopping you from just digging yourself a ramp? You could have easily spooned on the loose feed from the ground and put it back with the bucket...and even re-packed it!

Larry: So how do we get our $900,000 14 ton excavator off this 16 ft cliff ?!? Moe: I think building a temporary ramp with gravel, sub-base or dirt would be the best way. Curly: No way, takes too long. Just need 11 random tires stacked up to do it. Larry: Alright, you stack the tires and I'll drive our expensive equipment off the ledge. Moe: You sure this will work? Curly: Heck ya, gravity will handle the rest. We just need to cushion the 14 tons of pricey equipment falling 16 ft. Moe: =(

I was hoping to see some sort of pyroette off the top like putting all the weight on the arm and then twisting the cab and hydraulically stabilizing the whole trackhoe atop the arm and then slowly and carefully lowering it in a graceful ending to the ground all the while doing something kooky in the cab like some sort of weird country style dance move that is only known to a few people in that area and he was debuting it actually and not the tractor to go against gangnam style. But it wasn't.
