Great! Just a small note - if you touch the color pads they will discolor over time - be careful when handling!

Hello. I have watched a lot of these Passport Tutorials since getting my Colour Checker last year. I found your Tutorial really helpful because you explained about the colour chips being 50% saturated. It's a small observation but a very important one for me. I can now happily take this information and use with my Davinci Resolve software Cheers

Thank you for the video. One thing I learned that I was not aware of in using mine is that the color chips are 50% saturation. However I found I few things that I think you missed or could improve on. One, rather than crop it is easier to zoom into the passport and then mask for the specific chips you want to work with. You also did not touch on white balance. If your WB is off (for example recording in GoPro's native WB), then your center point on the vector scope will be off and will need correction. You can use the white/grey/black chips with RGB Overlay to align at 100/50/0 IRE.

Honestly I never understood the part of color corrections and so on, this is the first time I understood a little, still really hard for me to get it all but it's a progress. How bad will it be to try to get such a color checker knockoff on AliExpress for example to see how it goes?

Excellent video! Well explained. Thank you. A question.... Been trying to match multiple cameras in FCPx and found a good way is to edit IN the MC screen by colour grading each angle, then making a Project and editing all the angles. Do I still shoot all the angles in LOG? C log, F log and N log (as you have) or just rec 709 ( forgetting log) with the colour checker?

I recommend you still shoot log to get the most out of your cameras, it’s always easier this way because the color checker makes it super easy to match. It’s much easier to match a video without color information than one that does.

@@Channel8eight Many thanks, thats really useful to know. I was getting in a tangle adding a lut to C70 footage but no lut seemed to look right on Nikon and Fuji. I guess when I get my Color checker and use it, everything will start to become better :)

Yes, Sony's always notorious for red/magenta hues, the image started to fall apart a little and look weird the more I toned that down. I don't regularly shoot Sony, but one of the things I learned is that; SLOG on that 8 bit 100m codec Sony offers on a lot of their cameras is daytime robbery. The image does not do well in post production at all, and is really far from the best out there, had become so accustomed to the higher bit depth and bit rates on the BMPCC4K I forgot stuff like this was still an issue on consumer hybrids, or those from Sony at least. Notice how the pocket 4k image has a bit more depth in terms of the color reproduction? It looks a little richer overall, or maybe that's just me haha 😆
