My goal is becoming a Back end web developer but should I try to get a job as a front end developer first? Do you think I should just learn how to become a back end developer and wait until I know enough to get the job? I'm thinking if I can just get my foot in the door and learn from the people at the company it will be a smoother transition to level up to the next position.

If you really want to be a backend dev focus on becoming that. I made the mistake of thinking it will be an easier transition from front-end to backend but in the end, it takes time to learn. Don't waste your time with front-end right now unless that is the route you want to go. You can get your foot in the door as backend dev. I hope that helped. Take care.
