Very helpful! Does the two-step/HPR pay setting happen at the FJO time or does that have to be set in the TJO? In looking at the lateral transfer TJO, it's listed at step 1 (although my current position is already step 7).
@federalhiringadvice1385

If it's a lateral your step should stay the same. The TJO might me step one while they gather your current information to keep everything the same.

How long should you wait to hear back for an interview from the time you are referred to the hiring manager?
@federalhiringadvice1385
@federalhiringadvice1385 Жыл бұрын
I'd say no more than 2-4 weeks. If you haven't heard anything in 4 weeks call HR to check the status.

Hi! I’ve been a contract specialist (GS7) with the VA for 3 months. I’d like to transfer laterally to HR. Should I wait a year for time in grade? I have 8 years as a Assistant Manager in the private sector along with 24 HR college credits.
@federalhiringadvice1385

No need to wait, start applying now. It could take some time to get through the process because of the volume of applicants that tend to apply.

Also to piggyback off my last question I we'll have to relocate do you think I can ask for a two to three months out start date? Or will they take back the offer?
@federalhiringadvice1385

You can always ask. They won't rescind just for asking. Just have to prepare for if they say no.

I noticed the time and grade job had the required experience then said “AND” the time in grade requirements. Does it make a difference if the “AND” is not there. I know that could be a big thing, or mean nothing at all.

Is the two-step rule the max pay that one would be able to get during a promotion? In other words, they will calculate your rate based on the two step rule and you won't be able to negotiate to a higher step than what results from the two-step rule? When reading the two-step rule it seems it is the minimum pay increase that is required for a promotion and not necessarily a limit.
@federalhiringadvice1385
@federalhiringadvice1385 Жыл бұрын
The 2 step rule is the max. There is no ability to negotiate for more steps during a promotion.

I'm retired military and also a 100% disabled veteran and I currently work for the United States Postal Service, how does my current job with the post office and veteran preference help me being hired for a Federal government job? The post office is not considered government
@federalhiringadvice1385
@federalhiringadvice1385 8 ай бұрын
The post office should be considered federal. You can use your veteran status to meet the area of consideration for positions or preference for jobs open to all us citizens.

I'm currently a gs9 applying for an open to public direct hire gs 12 position. I have 2 years of specialized private experience but it is only parttime (about 6 hours a week). Does that qualify as "specialized experience"?
@federalhiringadvice1385
@federalhiringadvice1385 2 ай бұрын
@@hiero365 if it's part time experience you'll need enough years to equal 1 year of full time experience. 40 hours x 52 weeks = 2080 hours to meet the 1 year of specialized experience needed.

It just depends. Most requirements are scheduled around the same time to complete them faster. So they don't wait for one to be done before starting the next. If that's what they told you I'd believe it.
