How To Get Your Pebeo Masking Pen To Work!

Dhivya asked me how to get the pen to work - she can't get the masking fluid to flow out, so in this video I share a couple of tricks you might find helpful, if you have the same issue.
I love using my Pebeo High Precision Masking Fluid Marker in my watercolors. It draws really fine, precise lines, but it can get tricky to get the masking fluid to flow out of the hard plastic tip of the marker. Watch this video to learn how to fix it!

@@EvaNichols28 I love the idea of pigment resist from a fabric dyeing class I took ages ago. However, I don’t have actual watercolors, just Graphitint, Inktense, and Dürer Aquarellstifte. I love color very much, but am a very cautious and meticulous creature. I see potential in using this masking fluid to bring a little color to my drawings. I have tubes of gouache but keep looking for a class and there are none where I live. At any rate, if I can figure out whether the masking fluid easily peels off after drying , I might try more watery media. :)

@@kendalchen I think it will work just a well with the Graphitint, Inktense and Dürer Aquarellstifte. Just test it out on a scrap piece of watercolor paper first, to see if it works for you. Have fun experimenting!

Thank you so much for your kind comments. If you can get the pen open by unscrewing the top, you can refill it. You might need a pair of pliers, I found that works great.

Mine is work but I don't know why it's hard to peel off

It can be because of the paper you use, or if you let it sit on your paper for too long, or of it’s exposed to heat or lying in the sun. If you are using cheap paper it can be a problem, or if your paper does not have sizing the masking fluid sinks into the fibers, and can’t be removed. I use 100% cotton paper- usually Arches. You should test it out on a scrap piece of your watercolor paper first, to test if it can be removed. I hope this helps pinpoint your problem. Wishing you a happy, creative day.

Thank you so much for your comments. Yes it’s not for everyone- you can also make your own fine line masking fluid “pen” using a small bottle with a fine tip. When not in use insert a pin 📌 so it doesn’t clog up. Happy painting.🎨
