i have 3 yard roosters that got along great. All brothers. Then bam! 1 rooster was shunned & scared & almost starved himself from fear. i healed him. I gave him 2 hens & is fine in his own run. Meanwhile my 2 flock leaders a son & father that look alike have 11 hens & been fine 1 and a half years but today Easter March 2024 bad fights all day which I kept separating them saying NO! & WHEN that didnt work I finally had to put the main aggressive rooster into a small separate run. So Each day i WILL work with them & see what happens. they are silkie cochin mix boys. i am so stressed now because things were okay now not. I hate when leadership changes. hens also can fight & pick on each other alot. Always have more than one water & feed station & places for hens to hide when others harrass them!! ty for your videos. i have had chickens since 2021 & seen so much, learned alot but just when u think all is okay a new issue arises !!! peace can be had months or a year then chaos.

Just finished watching both of your videos on stopping rooster aggression. We started with four hens, and one of them developed a larger cockscomb while retaining hen feathering, all our other hens including a single bantum have much smaller hen-looking combs/wattles. About four months into having our hens, we got two bantum roosters (We didn't realize that until a bit later as bantums mature slower than typical chickens), and a few days ago Donut and Vanilla(the roosters) got into a nasty fight so we separated them by putting vanilla (the only one we could catch) in the coop of the past three days. We let them out this morning, and though the roosters started to fight, our largest hen Compy then stepped into the fight, stared both of the smaller roosters down and broke up the fight without more than a single lunge. The flock is now all hanging out together at our neighbor's property, and don't seem to be fighting anymore. We probably got lucky that our only roosters are smaller than three of our hens, and the hens themselves seem to be towing the line with them. Don't know how sustainable it is, but after watching this video my partner and I will likely attempt the cock fighting rooster training method with Vanilla (the main aggressor) and will need to get the kennel to allow them their own space to acclimate after the fight. Sorry for essaying here, but figured I'd point out our experience as it is the exact scenario you seemed most curious about. Hope it helped, I'm sure your videos will help our situation though, seems to make sense to me.

I used this technique with some 4 month old hens I introduce to my flock and it worked very well. I am going to try with a new rooster next. It worked so well with the young hens I'm confident it will work well with our new Cochen rooster.

We have a mixed flock of 14 hens + 2 roos...we brought 2 groups together. A group of 9 hens and a group of 5 hens/2 roos (we ended up with a "surprise" roo). They've been living peacefully for 5 months. The younger roo has matured and started challenging the dominant roo today... it's pretty aggressive. I had aleady separated the young roo into the chicker tractor in the run and had planned on keeping him separate for a few days to a week. Now that I've watched this video I'll add the orher steps as a strategy to help them get along. The trick is catching the roo in the run if he becomes aggressive again. He's big, fast and smart. Hopefully you have a video with tips on effectively catching roos. I convinced him into the chicken tractor with food....he might not be bribed as easy next time 😅. Thanks for rhe wealth of information 🙏✨

I have a question. I have 3 roosters that got along fine until my husband brought another rooster w 4 girls . So now the second rooster is attacking the head rooster and I haven't been able to get him to stop. The head rooster never had anything attack him so he is prettified of his son. How can I get them to be friends again?

My question is about the time in the training when they are almost ready to integrate, but you're not certain they are fully ready. So they are taking a long time before they try aggression. Life happens. What do you do if you need to go to the bathroom or take care of something else and can't supervise for several hours at one time? Do you still put the instigator back in their cage even though they haven't been aggressive? And a related question, how do you know when they are ready to integrate? Maybe by the time they can go for an hour without aggression, they are ready to leave in the flock? Also wondering if you or the sanctuaries have tried the "blinders" (peepers) that block their view and if they are any help in this sort of issue. My eggs are in lockdown at the moment so I'm trying to learn all I can in case I end up with a bunch of roos (Serama).

I'm building a separate coop and run for roosters (when we hatched our chickens, we got more roosters than we thought). Is there a way to do this and not have fights going on continually. Granted, they will end up supper (most of them) but some I just got attached to. We just don't have enough hens per rooster.

i have 2 roosters, they are father and son. the son hit puberty about a month ago and he has been chasing the hens like crazy and daddy roo is not hapy about it. its frustrating because he is getting aggressive with us due to i think being stressed out by his adolecent son.

I’m trying to introduce a rooster and they are beyond bloodied through the deer fencing that separates them. It is the equivalent of free ranging for one rooster and an 8x12 “cage” for the other. The fencing is 1.5 inch. There should be some mention of the fencing size because what we have would quickly result in death if we let it continue.

I straiten out a wire hanger. then I fashion a tight small hook on the end. Make the end a tiny loop so it wont poke the chicken then make a about a three inch loop and where it comes back to touch itself make that part just large enough to slip around the ankle. then the big part of the loop make it large enough to hold but not be too tight. You can catch them easily. walk up nonchalantly and then surprise hook there leg. Its easy. HOW TO CATCH A CHICKEN (Without Running Around Like An Idiot) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYvIaZypp7p-otk

@@shartne Thank you -- I have sheep but hadn't thought of using the chicken equivalent of a shepherd's crook. Glad to hear it doesn't hurt the chicken's leg. Is it OK to hold the chicken upside down as shown in your video?

When my rooster began to get aggressive, I would snatched him up and sit down and cuddle him for 10 minutes or so. He never liked it because it makes him look weak in front of the girls. He stopped trying to bite me because he knew how it would end. 😅

I have 3 roosters. 2 are 7months old. 1 is 6months old. All three hatched here. A few days ago the 7months old got into a fight. The alpha was challenged and lost. He was very bloody. Now I've tried to do the method you talked about but how do you repeatedly catch the rooster?? I have a net but he is really fast. I just can't catch him. Ive resorted to playing as rooster and standing between them as often as i am outside. The scared one jumps on my shoulder or hides behind me.

That’s a great question JD and I don’t have an easy answer for it. I highly recommend you talk to the folks at Roovolution.com. They are highly knowledgeable about rooster problems. You can email them or even set up a consult for one-on-one help. They are a nonprofit and will help for free. (Of course, donations keep them going.) Please reach out to them - they are better equipped to help you than I am.

I usually have to corner him. I have a few U-shaped areas where I can tackle my chickens if need be. A herding dog can help pressure them into the area as well. It's kinda stressful for them, but sometimes it's the only way to catch them.

Now I had two mini Kelso greys the ones with blonde heads there were four of those lil brothers brought to feed store where I worked n I bought two of em n added them to my rooster flock n those guys would fight n I would break em up n then they both would turn on me n I would try the pin them down n put their lil faces in the dirt n other one would be trying to free the brother I had pinned n I wouldn't get any where with them but my alpha Orion who was just the coolest rooster ever he could bend over n give them the rooster eye n they would stop fighting n act like they weren't even fighting n act like they were best friends n he never beat up those two I guess his size was enough to scare them as he was a Rhode Island red n they were only a tenth his size but he kept the roosters in line that I had n if the owners son kicked him out of the store for looking at himself in the mirror n then go eat the sample feeds in the bins once he was out front of the store he would crow like it was war n every rooster on property stopped what ever they were doing n ran to him n then it was every rooster vs the owners son Orion was something else

Old timer from Louisiana. There is no way to keep American game fowl from fighting. It is not something you teach them . There born that way. They must be separated completely from each other. If you don't separated them you will loose at least 1 if not both. They will fight in and out of a cage . They will fight there on reflection. Just part of nature. I do appreciate your good intentions.
@Magg_2006
@Magg_2006 26 күн бұрын
@@dollarbill8976 That's not a part of nature whatsoever. By that logic, cornish crosses being born with an exaggerated feed intake and suffering from health conditions is nature. In reality, cockfighters have selected bred these roosters and have even conditioned it in their heads through their training and living spaces to be far more aggressive than any normal fowl to the biggest extreme possible. Indeed fighting exists, but in the wild it is far less extreme. They don't really touch each other either. It's usually a massive buff-up contest with pushing and intimidation until one submits. With at most a few boo boos. The behavior of gamefowl isn't natural at all.
