Both of my cats must be able to smell the meds. I tried every food they normally love and they won't touch it. Too smart for those tricks haha. I had to resort to straight up by hand and stick my finger down the poor things throat. I just ordered this pill plunger. Hoping that helps. Glad I found this video before the pill plunger arrives so I have a good grasp on how to use it. Feels like all I have been doing is watching how to videos on this latley lol. Yours is the best one so far. I feel bad having to do this to my poor kitty. I stratle my from behind so I have my arms around him and his back end to my chest. Nowhere to go. He was already use to me doing that position from having to do insulin injections and he knows the drill. He just crouches down now and let's me do it lol

The dry texture of many pills makes the pill stick to the rough wet surface of the cat's tongue. A determined cat can resist swallowing it. Buying empty gelatin capsules just big enough to contain the dry pill helps a lot. The slick surface of a capsule slides down much easier than a dry pill. Thus you don't find spit out pills later on the kitchen floor. . .

Some coat the pill in a pit of oil or put wet cat food on it to entice the cat to eat it. I think the wet cat food could start to dissolve some pills, which makes them even harder to get the cat to take. I don't use either the pill popper or any lubricant. It's a matter of getting the pill near the back of the throat and having the cat's head tippped up and immediately stroking the throat to encourage swallowing. I've heard blowing on the nose can encourage swallowing too.

@@saintejeannedarc9460 I use a pill popper that the one in the video to give my cat a capsule while tipping his head up and then with a dropper I give him a little water immediately after to help the capsule go down. I also stroke his throat. I know would find it hard to swallow a pill without water so I figured it would help my cat.

thank you for your video. I watched others and was not successful in pilling my cat with a small capsule. I got good at small pills but not this until I watched your video, came at him from behind and putting the pill popper to the side of his mouth with me behind him. Success! at last! I also applied one tip from another video I learned which was dipping the pill in his wet cat food which I think helped it slide down a bit. thank you sooo much. I am so relieved to finally have a way of doing this.

It's been a while after I posted this comment and by now one of my cat has figured out a way to spit out the pill even when I use pill popper(which I bought after watching this video)... He closes his mouth and shakes his head till he can push the pill out of his mouth.

@@cassanova9322 The trick is to get it to the back of their throat and tip the head up and stroak the throat to encourage swallowing. Some say blowing on the nose will encourage licking which encourages swallowing too.

The pill popper is so long that it actually makes giving the pill harder. I’d say it’s the worst choice.

@@miss.heatherr I use my hands instead. I have the best control that way and can gage how far back I get the pill in their throat. I've always had success coming behind the cat on the floor and straddling them so they can't back up. I put a hand on their chest and gently pry at the side of their mouth to get it a bit open, then pop the pill to the throat. Tipping their head up as I do this and then stroaking the throat to encourage swallowing. It's ideal to do this when the cat is asleep or really relaxed. Even Stewie who I usually have to grab is pretty easy to pill and almost thinks I'm giving treats.

That looks like it’s very easy to hurt the cats throat. I will never use a pill popper! Why can’t medicine be made in a taste and scent a cat will like. This is the 21st Century. None of what you showed worked for my cat this week. We had to pay extra and get the liquid form of the medication.

@@Nine_Bun_Bun Our cat is way smarter than that. We did try it, but she could smell the pill and would not touch it. There has to be a better way to dispense medication to a cat. The methods in most videos just don't work with our cat. And the stress she feels makes things worst. We ended up using liquid and squirting 'most' of it into her mouth. Seems vets have the easy cats to deal with.

@@josebrivera1716 I am having the same problem. This pill popper device was given to me by my vet and I just can't bring myself to use it. We've tried just about everything to get my cat to take his medication but really we just do the best we can to get the most in him but it's not a perfect system by any means. It is frustrating for sure especially when these videos make it seem so easy.

Scruffing is very stressful for a cat... and painful! They Actually go limp as they feel threatened and its a protective action. You should never ever !!!!!! pick a cat up like that as you can cause alot of serious damage and it hurts them!! Neem 'n nuwe pil uit die dosie, plaas weer die kat in jou arm, terwyl jy beide voorpote stewig vashou. Forseer sy kake oop en druk die pil binne-in sy mond met jou regter wysvinger. Hou die kat se bek vir ten minste 10 tellings toe. 5. Haal die pil uit die visdam met die klein netjie en gaan haal die mal kat bo van die kas af. Bel onderweg vir Hyperama om 'n nuwe eetkamertafel te bestel. 15. Bel die SPCA om te reël dat hulle die gemuteerde satanskind van 'n helkat kom haal en stop by die Petshop om te vra of hulle nie dalk klein hamsters het nie.

Please know that not everyone who cares for a declawed cat has gotten them declawed themselves. Some were already declawed in the past before being adopted. They still deserve good homes! Also that has nothing to do with the validity of demonstrating how to give a cat a pill. Pill Pockets and Pill Poppers are useful methods of giving pills whether a cat is declawed or not.
