This is a short video I put together for my patients who need to give themselves B12 shots. In this video, I am using a 1", 25G needle.

@@vanessafinlayFor the muscular shot for the Vit. B12 that I used from the pharmacy (doctor Rx) the syringe was 3mL and 23 gauge. I have also given myself daily B12 injections with a much smaller insulin syringe with B12 that I ordered via mail. These were micro doses that I did for about one month. I used Cyanocobalamin from the doctor's Rx with the once a month injection and larger intramuscular needle; used methylcobalamin with the insulin needle daily (it's more subcutaneous with the shorter needle). The insulin syringe was 31 gauge x 5/16" -- 0.3mL

I’ve done many injections in the ventroglute (hip) I find it to be the easiest spot, and pain free. You can also draw back on the full syringe and replace with a new sharp needle of a smaller gauge. 30 works. Just twist the old one off. It will be dulled from the rubber stopper

@TheCurtisdavies You need to discuss that with your doctor, but I take a shot every 2 weeks. I am thankful my insurance covers most of the cost. For me, B12 injections are a necessity. My body does not naturally absorb B12, and it causes me numerous health problems if I dont get the injections. If it isn't a real necessity, that could be why insurance doesn't cover it. I dont know your situation or the type of insurance you have, but best of luck to you.

Question; I'm not sure about the propper way to dispose? I cap the needle and put everything back inside the prescription bottle that my vial came in, I've only used 2, they're still sitting in my bathroom. Can they just be tossed in the trash?

Do I push the plunger in and release all the b12 when needle is all the way in or do I release it a little bit as I’m pulling it out? I’m terrified to do my own shots!!….. I’m not scared if needles , but I cannot seem to do this… I’m getting my courage up… what if I panic and break the needle? I’m sweating bullets just thinking about it….. thanks. Not being perv But picture you but cheek witha. Grid, not pretend what would be the middle (target bulleseye 🎯) of your cheek, dont think about it in relation to your hand or how you feel, literally imagine your butt cheek andbullseye, and put all the way andnjust inject not fast not slow just normal, take out press and rub I said butt, because biggesy muscle, no danger of hitinf a vein or blood and brusing etc, or it balling up Tons of veins you cant see only feel on your. Thighs esoecially, biceps even You can even do it trough your boxers just swab your area firsr etf incase you feel wierd looking at your butt , or have a freind do it that you trust because your scared of needles Just press down pressure for thirty seconss then clean , rub rub run down and no . Ball brusing should appear, please dont muscle your shoulder arm or lega especially legs unless you know what your doing just start with glutes like drs do it when busy they give the nurses the shot and rhey do rhe glute vs a dr might go for your arm, they know the anatomy better where as nurses ehhh lol butt cheek can't make you weep a nurse told me when i was q teen and. Self. Conscious lol she though i was scared of w shot no i was scared of a pretty lqdy lookin at. My chubby mexixan hairy(for allni know i mean ive never gotten a chance to look my butt nor do i intend to lol) hope helped

Dont use the whole needle cause if it breaks you then have a needle in your muscle and if that happens your fckd. Imagine flexing your leg and the needles just tearing up your quad. Nasty buisness leave enough out so if it does cause it can then your able to pull it without panic setting in.

Let me just say that while this gave me the courage to give myself a shot in the top of my thigh, it hurt like a son-of-a-gun! And bled quite a lot! So I must of hit a nerve and possibly an artery? I'm not sure. Now I'm not nearly as confident about doing this again, but I need to be. Because my arms, especially at my elbows are cold and asleep when I awaken in the morning. I survived the shot and didn't seek any medical attention. The bleeding stopped about 3 min afterwards. The pain is about 70% better and it's been 5 1/2 hours. Still not as bad as when the nurse hit my sciatic nerve giving me a B12 shot in the hip, so professionals are not always the better route. Phlebotomists certainly can't seem to draw blood worth a darn these days and they have bruised myself and my mother and it hurts us quite badly. I think I will have my husband give me the next one and then hope to be brave enough to give it to myself again. He says it hurts him when he does it to himself, so that is why I wanted to learn, especially since all the new latest and greatest prescriptions are now injectable, like the one my husband and a friend of mine have just been prescribed. Some additional suggestions. Try to get as much air out of the needle as possible. This video by the VA kzbin.info/www/bejne/nH6oi5eEpMl6g5I shows at 2:26 seconds, exactly where your muscle in your leg and hip are and if giving in the thigh it is best to go off to the side just a bit and not directly on top of your leg. At 4 min on the VA video it shows how to best get the air out of the needle which IS IMPORTANT! Despite all the pain and blood I'm still glad I watched this video and got the courage to do it myself. I WILL try again, just a little differently. Thank you for this video and best wishes to everyone that needs shots to maintain their health and well-being.

The trick to injecting the thigh is to resist tightening it. Sometimes it's easier to do it in the butt--not the butt cheek like in cartoons but the upper outer quadrant, the muscle between the butt cheek and the hip. If you do it right, you don't feel it at all, and that way you don't see the needle going in.

Hi there, i have a question, my husban injects himself with b 12, i decided to try a b 12 shot for my nervousness, after research on the web. Since he has done it to Himself I let him do my shot. It was on my thigh way above my knee, ir stung during and when He pulled out the needle.I notice B12 juice or blood coming.Of course we apply pressure and it was all okay, I was laying on the bed and when I got up to walk. I felt my leg weak and also I felt like if I didn't walk on it That weakness would continue and i wouldnt be able to move. I Believe I was just sore since it is intramuscular shot. But, but my question is, why do I still feel in a way sore after a month of the shot? I have kneeled down where my thigh streches and I feel like a tearing burning sensation, in that area, what is the cause of it? Is that normal? I cant even do much of a quad strech without feeling burning tearing sensation. Please help thank you
