It took me a minute to figure out what you were doing. So you made a stencil with your Silhouette and pulled out the centre of the vinyl and left the outline.Then put the paste. Awesome! These would make great gifts!

Appreciate the help video! However, this video makes assumptions that the viewer already knows certain things. I've never etched at all so I need to be shown as if I were a 5yo. Why transfer tape? What does the cream do? You cut the letter out, but then did transfer tape to what? To the cutout letter or to the remains of the where the cut came out from? You put the cream on the transfer tape itself? How does that get to the glass? Lots of holes here making assumptions the viewers have some experience with it.
@kinhafazzio3 жыл бұрын
I'm not an english native speaker but I'll try to answer your questions (even if I'm a year late). Transfer tape is a tape you use to transfer your piece of vinyl/stencil paper to your glass. You cut your image on vinyl/stencil paper and put the transfer tape over the vinyl/stencil paper image. This way is easier to center and fix your image on your glass, it's better than peel the vinyl/stencil paper image with your hands and apply directly on the glass. The transfer paper is only for this: centering and applying the image on the glass. Once centered and applied, you peel the transfer tape off. And then you have your glass + vinyl/stencil paper, only. The "cream" is a product that reacts when applied on glass, turning the glass matte where the paste is applied. The vinyl/stencil paper image will work exactly as a stencil: will protect the areas of the glass that you don't wanna turn matte with the paste and will let the paste react on the areas where you want your image applied. Let's use a heart shape as an exemple. You cut a circle with a heart-shaped hole in the middle on your stencil paper. Then you use the transfer tape to apply this circle with the heart on your glass. The tape will make this process easier. You apply your image on your glass and take the tape off. Now you have a glass and a circle with a heart-shaped hole in the middle sticked to it. You put the paste over the image you've sticked on the glass. The paste will react only on the heart-shaped hole, 'cause there's no stencil paper protecting this hole. The rest of the image/circle is protected by the stencil paper, and will not affect the glass. Once dried, you peel off the stencil from the glass and voilà, you have a permanent matte heart on your glass!

i don't understand the significance of the transfer paper. if you already have the stencil, couldn't you just stick that on the glass and dab on the etching cream?
@justwantaplaylist16 жыл бұрын
that's what I thought, too. This seems like an extra step and it looks like it's not necessary. Does anyone know why you need the transfer paper ?
@izackhairis69516 жыл бұрын
Letters such as B D P and R has that inner semi circle thingy. Using transfer tape will get u a clean uniform finish. And vinyl are quite stretchy as well so on a round surface like the glass u may end up having a distorted letter stencil if u dont use a tramsfer tape
@phife18785 жыл бұрын
@@justwantaplaylist1 Like the other person said, you use the transfer tape to transfer the center of letters(A, D, R, O, P, Q, B). Otherwise, you'd be placing the centers by hand. Transfer tape also allows you to apply more complex designs, like landscapes or trees.

You can buy everything you need at a hobby store. Super easy you can buy the stencils, the Armor Etching cream. This video makes it seem a lot harder because she's making the design. You can buy the letters already made at a hobby store also. You can also etch on mirror if you like. I hate when people make easy shit harder than what it really is. Of course you can do it this way if you like. It's not rocket science. Go to a hobby store read the directions on the Armor Etching cream. Have fun!

Costs less if you are doing it as business. The cream costs you like 10 bucks.. And it can be reused multiple times as some people don't rinse off first and put the excess cream back in the bottle then rinse it.
