Thanks Steve, excellent video! I always take a few photos of what I'm about to take apart/replace/rebuild with my camera for future reference, never fails, this 60+ year old mind can't remember like it used to.

According to GM you're supposed to torque the spindle nut to 52 ft lbs then back it off to 0 then finger tight.

thats what I was looking for , thanks ! You get people making DIY vids but leave out a critical step. And it's 60 ft lbs for those axle bolts too.

Loved the video - interesting. I've done drum brakes on cars before but this is a lot different - the hub assembly and removing the axle is not like a car - at all.

It's definitely different when you get into heavy duty trucks. It's much more involved. Thanks

I’ve done this job years ago. Factor said new gasket only on axle flange. I installed and tightened to 60 ft lbs. the axle leaked next day. I ended up going to axle shop. I believe the only thing they did different was they put gasket sealant on the gasket and little on the bolts. This video skipped the axle install.

This was a very good video I'm getting ready to do rear pads on our dually and figured I'd look up a video just for shits and giggles and I saw your doing all the other parts too so I figured I'd go ahead and learn how to do everything for when that time comes

I was expecting to really be honest and straight about how to do this, there were a lot of missing information about the process. This videos made people believe that it's very simple, the omission of some size tools and hiden mess means a lot to me. Appreciated the information anyways..

@1kory883 4 жыл бұрын
Did I miss something, did you pay him to train you how to do brakes on your truck? He's making a video to help people out that most likely are already mechanically inclined. If you can't fill in the missing pieces, or need to be told what size sockets you need, then you shouldn't be doing brakes jobs pal.

It seems that if you dont use OEM shoes and hardware they never seem to seat right especially anything Mopar. I've got a 08 3500 to do Monday. Great Video! I'm researching lifts for myself and the atlas 2 post is on the top of my list. My heaviest truck is a 2500hd gasser with a 8ft utility bed full of tools, what size is your lift and how did it handle that dully. It looked solid when you were working on it.
@slow_restoration
@slow_restoration 5 жыл бұрын
It's a 10,000 pound lift. It lifted the truck off the ground with no problem, it was a little slower to lift it if you started with weight already on it. This truck was close to 10,000 though, I don't think you would have any problems.

My 04 2500hd with an 8ft reading bed, 2wd ext cab weighed in at 7700 pounds loaded with tools at the scales. There's no crane on my box, and no air compressor, point is this should get you close and a 10000 lift should work for yoh

What type of differencial fluid do you top it off with? Will synthetic mix ok with non synthetic? Maybe if in doubt I should just change that fluid all together? It probably needs to be done anyway. I was thinking about using valvoline 75/140 full synthetic for my 2006 3500 Express cutaway van with dually.
@slow_restoration

Yeah if it's time to change it anyway it's good maintenance to drain and refill. Check with the store where you buy it, they should be able to tell you what is needed for your year and model. Thanks.

My 1991 3500hd has rotors. There are only a few years in that year range where gm actually made a true HD that was different from all other 3500s. It was called a cab and chassis which was more like a 4500. Everything was different and most auto parts stores don't know how to look up parts for these trucks. But they are sought after cause they were built very heavy duty and used for strictly commercial type use, dump trucks, flatbed tow trucks, tow trucks, Etc. But they did have rotors on the rear!
