Hello guys, this video is the first of a new series where I'm going to go round different corporate kart tracks around the UK and giving you guys some advice on how to improve your lap times.
For this first video I've visited one of my favourites corporate circuits Milton Keynes Daytona where I was trying out their new fleet of Sodi SR5s. Unfortunately parts of the circuit were damp so was unable to get a representative lap time in.
I've been here a few times in the past with two of them visits being 24hr race wins so have a reasonable bit of experience around here.
I hope you enjoy the video and you find it helpful to improve your own karting. Be sure to leave a like and subscribe to see more like this and dont forget to leave a comment on your opinion of this venue.

That’s actually me at the end of your video about to let you past haha. Can definitely see now where I was going wrong with the wet line on that section. Great help! Subbed.

Glad to help, yeh that wet section was quite tricky, whenever the circuit is those conditions I just try to find the driest parts of the corner to get the grip

Did they recently upgrade the karts if so how much faster are they?

Hi, the new fleet is from June last year but they are around 3/4 seconds a lap slower than the previous fleet.

@@BWR33 They were upgraded for the 24 hour last year, but there was a big speed difference between the Sodi's and the DMax's. More recently, around February i think, they have done a 'upgrade' including grippier tyres to get the times back towards the previous fleet time. They suggest 2-3 seconds faster than previously. It's the 24 hour again this weekend, so we shall see. Fastest lap last year - times matched by the 5 or 6 teams with the staff karts - were in the 1:13s. Im expecting to see some times in the 1:10s this year. For me the biggest problem with Daytona - a similar problem with all arrive and drive tracks tbh - is kart discrepancy. There were clearly faster karts than ours last year which, for example, pulled 5 kart lengths on the main straight despite a worse exit from the bottom hairpin. But its shouting in the wind to try and get that resolved, i think.

@@stevepearce5182 completely agree with the kart differences, it will always be the same wherever you go, the place that I’ve seen do the best with keeping the karts as close as possible is the Club 100 championship but they will never be perfect, as for the times for this weekend will be interesting to see the difference compared to the old tyre compound, also good luck for the weekend 👍

@@BWR33 Yes i agree. C100 do so well because they have a kart tester who checks for a representative (and very quick) laptime - i recall they aim for 3 tenths gap. I heard that the reference lap time when we asked for our kart to be tested last year was a 1m21 - not much good when we were lapping 5 seconds faster. Thanks!

Most helpful video! Do you have any tips on how to brake in order to get the kart rotated on the way into the corner? You’ve mentioned a few times on this video about a little slide on the way in.

Yeh so for me I do this technique into slower corners to help get the kart rotated, a lot of corporate karts tent to suffer from a lot of understeer so this is where it helps the most, I’ll go on the brakes hard ( but not hard enough to lock up and loose control) and stay on the brakes just after turning into the corner which make the rear of the kart try to step out canceling out some of the understeer on the way into the corner. Hope this explanation helps you 👍

@@BWR33 that’s useful, thanks! I did a D40 at MK on the weekend and used this technique. It was going great, I was running top 3 after 10 laps or so. But then I got greedy on the brakes and locked the rears, sending me into a half spin. Finished P5, so room for improvement.

Glad it was useful for you, it’s just about finding that balance of rotation and not locking up too much, practice will make it become more natural and will help bring in the results 👌
