How To Go From Basic To Chic In Easy Steps

I wear this sort of thing as my "daily" outfit since I'm retired. One thing I add to the outfit is a simple short sleeve button sweater...sort of a jacket...but softer. I am unable to wear heels since a foot injury, but I find dressy flats with a little heel are ok. My favorites are a jacquard print black pair, that are visually interesting, but don't dominate the outfit. I always add red lips and mascara, but seldom any more makeup than that. Most people guess my age at 40, because I refuse to "frump out". Big surprise, I'm 63. Dressing well camouflages age when mixed with good nutrition and a happy outlook.

I really like the jacket added to the jeans. And, you rock that look! I have incorporated the scarf look to cover up a neck scar (20 stitches from basal cell removal). I wore one of your recommended outfits on a train in California on Thursday. The woman sitting next to me, easily 20 years younger than I, commented on how chic I looked. I put her on to your channel! I think you will get a few more subscribers from the US Nashville, LA, and North Carolina after that train trip -- only 2 hours from the SF Bay Area to Sacramento. But women love to chat about style wherever they are!

I have been watching Paris street videos for more inspiration and you, Marie-Anne, are the best dressed. I loved the casual looks today, especially the white jeans and nude sneakers, good for summer heat and uneven terrain. While I never wear a watch, having collected bracelets for the last 50 years when I travel and as gifts, I am looking again at my stud earrings that were put away years ago. It is such a joy to throw open the doors to my closet and see all my lovely, coordinated clothes. Getting dressed has taken on a new excitement with your guidance.

Based on your video I realize I have been overthinking style and making it too complicated. Is it really just so easy and simple? I think your "basics" are essential to making you look inherently stylish. 1st your hair style is complimentary 2nd is the fact that you are slim so your clothes fall well. Simple is BEST! The lipstick & earrings make everything look better- more intentional. Love the scarf! It’s such a great touch. I love the shirt better than the T shirt but the white cuffs make it even better. The only thing I can think of in single additions would be a simple V neck fine knit merino or cashmere pullover which is a favourite of mine on a chilly day and I often fill the neck with a scarf

This is really helpful. As a waitress I wear a white t shirt and black trousers. It can be boring wearing the same thing every day but I have cropped, fitted black trousers, simple but good quality black loafers, sometimes I’ll wear red ballet flats, my t shirts are a good fit and I wear simple make up with a red lip most days. My hair is very long, thick and very dark, almost black and I like to wear it down but at work I can’t so I’ll put it in a twist or an elegant bun with Pearl earrings. I’ll change up my earrings, a simple necklace, and watch. There are ways to make a simple outfit more chic and I like a challenge!

I tend to overthink my outfits so this helps a lot because little simple changes are the most impactful. I sometimes like to glam up my simpler outfits with a costume statement necklace, that might not be a Parisian thing to do but it has elevated my outfits somewhat and I enjoy the sparkle it brings. Here's my take: # 4 a little scarf goes a long way. You can try tying the scarf down like necklace, etc. #5 I love the nude heels. Red would also make you "ready."! :) # 6 Try keeping the white T own underneath the long button down blouse and have a few buttons opened for that POP, #7 Add the long blue blouse underneath the blazer, # 8. I love the white jeans --- so summery. Also, if you have a black T -- that would also make for a great look. Well Madame L. -- you asked and this is my take. Thanks for asking for our input.

Hi Marie-Anne, I really liked your step-by -step approach to elevating the look. I love white t-shirts...on everyone, but me. I cannot wear white near my face. I have an olive skin tone and prefer a tan or ivory color, but t-shirts in those colors aren’t as easy to find. When I do find them, I grab a couple and keep one tucked away until needed:).

I really like these videos Marie and thanks so much for your recent advice re Calla shoes. You asked for comments on the above video so I must tell you first I am probably the clumsiest woman on the planet thus I never wear white. Also, the texture of any outfit is very important to me. I cannot bear anything harsh or scratchy against my skin. I never buy anything that is not soft. I particularly hate linen. Not only is it scratchy, it constantly needs ironing. Outfits made with linen remind me of an unmade bed. If another fabric is mixed with linen it's not quite so bad. Personally I don't even like linen tea towels. I do wear leggings but only thick ones that don't show all my lumps and bumps. I bought some fabulous black velvet leggings from Mango years ago and still wear those.

She said her Father taught her, “If you see someone without a smile give them one of yours, it may be the only one they get all day.” I love that sentiment.
