Have you done a grading company, grade comparisons video? I would like to know what the grade (calculation) differences for the same comic are between CGC, CBCS etc. I'm sure I've done a lousy job of describing my question, but here goes.

Bro, I paused this video at 15:08. From what I see so far, I would be comfortable saying this book is in the 6.0 to 6.5 range. However, the book would definitely benefit from a pressing, so, after the press; 6.5 to 7.0. The slight pull down tear at the top of the book makes me say solid 6.5. Now I will finish watching to see how far off I am, lol.
@JernosComicsPopCulture4 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the comment and guessing! I think you may be even more liberal on your grading than I am! lol. But hey, if you're grading the book at CGC for me, I want you every time! I say this humbly, but there is absolutely no way this book is getting even a 6.0. I say that with utter confidence. At least not from CGC. When you take into consideration the subscription crease that breaks color in multiple spots, spanning multiple inches, and all of the color breaking spine ticks and parallel spine reading fold that color breaks, AND the pull down tear AND the 2 cm spine split, it pulls the grade of this book down a lot more than how it "presents." This is definitely a book that presents well for it's grade. I don't see this book getting anything higher than a 4.5, even with a press.
@sirpuss58873 жыл бұрын
@@JernosComicsPopCulture I thought the same at 6.0 it’s probably because of the poor camera quality.

Hi Chris I’d say ST 154 is a 3.5 with the spine split and Wolverine 1 could be a 8.5/9.0 with a press? It does take time to learn I think I’m around the right grades when I do mine, I’ve been learning since March 😉 I also press my books too 👍

I was counting flaws on the Strange Tales as you pointed them out and calculated 14 or 15, in the VG range. It looks really nice though! Structurally very sound with a clean, flat cover. Your camera work was pretty good and those spine ticks and that tear were the only real rough parts. If you press out that subscription fold, I bet it would be a 4.5! Do you have an opinion on real subscription creases? Those automatically drop the book to 4.0 for me. Not sure what Overstreet would say...I think 3.0 is their highest grade that allows for a "book-length crease".
@JernosComicsPopCulture4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, a real nice, full cover color breaking fold would be a big hit. Hypothetically, if the book was high grade everywhere else, I would definitely see the fold bringing it down to nothing higher than a 5.0, but to your point, you really have to consider book length crease. And a book with a subscription fold will almost for certain have other defects as well.

@@JernosComicsPopCulture 5.5 is the top grade possible with a sub crease at cgc.

Pause at 17:38. I'm way off, but, in my opinion, that book looks way better than a VG+.

Hey I need your opinion, there’s 2 options for me on eBay of the comic I want . One has a noticeable 3 lines color break on the cover and second one has just a very very very very small chip off the cover but the rest of the comic book cover is great . What would be the better choice based off that?
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
I would still need more details to even make an educated choice. How big are the color breaks? And are both books flawless outside of these defects?
@serg4220 Жыл бұрын
@@JernosComicsPopCulture well the cover was bent/crest at some point cuz I see it along with the blank ink that’s why it noticeable . it’s the green lantern 87

@@JernosComicsPopCulture both comics seem to have to same color browning inside but it’s the covers is the only difference that I see and since the pricing are hugely different I just want to make the better choice between the two
@JernosComicsPopCulture Жыл бұрын
@@serg4220 I am still really not in a place to make a judgment call unless I saw the books. Ultimately, chips can get hit pretty hard, but if the rest of the book is flawless and the chip is literally the size of a spec of sand, that might get hit less than huge color breaking creases that run multiple inches. For me, I might look at which one presents better, rather than actual grade.

Great vid help full for grading books at home. But what if you have to graded from a pic ?? I stil do not kno/ am bot sure. I want to buy a book off Ebay but I do not know the condition of it and realy am not sure. It is a book out off 1968 but still am not sure of the graded it does has it problems. Like the colour on the inside you can see on the outside of the cover a littel the spine has some tiks. Has some collour breaking . Is probly of white pages. Or at it worst cream to off white. Do you know what I mean ???

There is only so much you can do when looking at pictures, and you'll just have to do your best before you make a decision to buy. The one thing I always suggest though, is to not be afraid to ask a seller for more pictures.
