To anyone who doesn't get his shirt, E/c^2 refers to the formula E = m*c^2, so E/c^2 is M, √-1 = i (an imaginary number), so that is I and PV / nR refers to PV=nRT, so PV / nR is T. All in all, it spells MIT.

@naliyouai This is only how to fulfill the general institute requirements (GIR's). Each major has its own requirements IN ADDITION to these.

@seemagics Lewin is pretty well-known, he came here for one lecture last year called, aptly, "The Last Lecture." He doesn't teach here anymore, sadly.

what do you mean when you say that it extends into the IAP in January? Does that mean that we don't get a winter break?

what is the swim test for?
@aaron.03037 жыл бұрын
Well, everyone needs to know how to swim (unless they're disabled). Harvard used to have a swim test as a graduation requirement (I think it was 100 yards). Columbia, Dartmouth, and Cornell still had them as of 2006: archive.boston.com/news/local/articles/2006/05/08/time_to_sink_or_graduate/ "As a freshman at Harvard University, one of the first things my wife had to do was to prove that she could swim. Had she failed this swimming test, then she would have had to take swimming lessons and repeat it, because you had to be able to swim to graduate from Harvard. " www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1113987/ "Whatever the reason behind the swim test requirements, schools took them quite seriously. Dr. Mortimer J. Adler, who earned a PhD from Columbia University, wrote more than 30 books, taught at Columbia University, and was chairman of the board of editors of the Encyclopedia Britannica, was denied his bachelor’s degree by Columbia in 1923 - despite his completing their four-year curriculum in three years and finishing at the top of his class - because he failed to pass the swimming test required for graduation. He was finally granted his degree sixty years later after informing Columbia that he had since learned how to swim and asking them to waive his disqualification."
