But I follow the Victorian Curriculum and are usually a year ahead in textbooks. I guess it really is the teacher but Not all private schools are useless, for example mine.

Vertex form is "y=a(x-h)^2+k". The (h,k) is the vertex. So as you can see, the "h" in vertex form is basically multiplied by -1 because you are SUBTRACTING it. In the case of "k" (the Y value) it says "+" so you just leave it as is. Imagine the vertex was (5,-4). "h"=5,"k"=-4. In this case, since you SUBTRACT 5, you would put in a -5 in the "h" in vertex form, since you multiply by negative one. When you put in your "k" value, you would put in -4, since thats the same as adding -4.
